Yes they can earn upwards of 150k, but most wards are understaffed and there is a lot of **** (literally) they deal with. The average nurse to chronically sick and usually elderly patient around here is 6:1. Which is actually quite frightening.

Sister would always be working short staffed because the turnover rate for nurses in med/surg units is HIGH, sick calls are HIGH. There are endless stats about burnout in the nursing profession and that most nurses leave hospital nursing within 5 years of graduation. Very few nurses stay on one unit for longer than 2-3 years.

One of my aunts became a nurse, she became an alcoholic around the time she started working. All the stress must of got to her. I asked her how she felt about seeing people die and she told me the first few times it hurt but after a while she decided to numb herself to the pain. She stopped becoming attached to patients and told me she now feels nothing

military as an officer -- do the minimum time and bail for an MBA paid for by the military. This is your best bet if you want a real career.

Hey OP,

I'm in the same boat, Have a BA in Business Economics and dropped out of masters in economics due to time conflict with a full time job I started back then (completed 8 graduate classes), did market research then after worked as a

staff accountant/bookkeeper/staff manager/ HR/ Purchasing and supplies manager/company management/customer service manager/production supervisor/office manager in a small Biotech company... all in one job (multiple hats job that required several skills and multitasking)

Was laid off before Christmas and been applying for jobs since then with no luck !

Fortunately I am receiving Unemployment Insurance to pay the bills but it's still not enough, need to find a good job ASAP

Otherwise I am contemplating opening a restaurant or doing masters in accounting.

I believe the entry level courses are pretty short, like a few months. Get on a boat as a basic deckhand and work up the ladder.

To be eligible to enter the Academy, you must:

Be at least 17 years of age andmust not have passed your 25th birthdaybefore July 1 in the year of entrance.

Obtain a Congressional nomination to the Academy; submit a completed application; and qualify scholastically.

Gotta be young and have a connection to a crooked congressman, so from a rich family.

Not sure about US specifically so I could be wrong but I think that refers to officers. He should be fine as an ordinary seaman.

This thread would have hit home 3 years ago when I had just turned 26. I started my undergrad in Social work at 22 with the intention of getting my masters and eventually becoming a LCSW (therapist) but upon reflecting, I concluded it wasn't a good trade off. Tons of school loans to get a 45k job dealing with people emotional problems.

At 24 I decided to drop out and got hired in the fabrication industry making 35k starting. I hustled at it for about 3 years, when I was approached by the supervisor with an opportunity to study for a certification in PLC (programmable systems control) essentially I program the machineries electric system in fabrication sites. I make 75/80k in Northern Cal (with bonuses)

Same here. I found a job that pays me $21 but in San Francisco, so it's chump change. However with whatever money I gain I am going to pay for my bachelor's in accounting and hopefully start earning decent money by 32-35. I am scared however that it will be extremely difficult even with the degree to find a job. Are there any jobs out there that are in high demand that pay a decent amount money without a degree?

Yeah, as others have said. Trades. 6-8 months trade school for about 15k tuition can land you a 35k job. But depending on what it is, you'll probably be at 35-45k for a looong time. But accountants make 45-55k average, and cpa's 50-100k. (raise salaries 62% for san fran) I wouldn't really want to go back to do a 4-year degree again. And it will take you 10+ years as an accountant to cover those lost 4 years and tuition compared to learning a trade and earning sooner.

What job did you get? At 25 hours/week, I am literally breaking even w/ food+rent. It sounds like you're still doing better than I am atm.
$21 is alright but I would have to live with roomates if I don't want to spend over half my earnings on rent. The job I got is a warehouse job for a company that ships out organic vegetables. I know my earning potential is limited though so I want to be sure I have some sort of exit plan when I cap out or get laid off.
