She's a privileged rich kid who got daddy to pay for her music career and put together a manufactured pop group where she sang and shook her ass for 10 years, for some reason this gave her the idea that she's a disadvantaged minority so now she continues to sing and use sex to sell her music to fight the oppression and finally take a stand for her rights, she is brave and humble especially considering how hard her life has been.

Also if you take anything that happens at the grammys seriously then you're a confirmed pleb.

back in the day, jay-z was an amazingly skilled rapper. if you don't believe me, listen to some of his older music from the late 90s and early 00s.

I still think, even in his prime, he's mediocre compared to unsung heros and mic BEASTS like Organized Konfusion, Gift of Gab, Del the Funky Homosapien, Last Emperor, KRS-One, Paris (the "Martial Law" guy), Immortal Technique, etc. etc. etc.

All those artists have heart and passion towards the hip hop craft. I feel like Jay-Z just sees it as another launchpad to make money. Never said he flat out sucked, but his flows are bland and monotonous, his delivery rarely has any punch (he just always sounds smug and passionless, indifference and business like...it's his whole persona, after all). His biggest strength is definitely his lyrics and how many puns and various meanings he can roll into a two-liner, but the substance of the lyrics is just business precision, how good he is, etc. He's not imparting any messages worth listening to. Feel free to prove me wrong, but he's always come across to me as someone using the craft to get money, vs. sincerely expressing himself through his art - other than claiming how great he is.

All the guys I like have a cause beyond "being better than everyone else." They have a message, and low and behold, their music has so much more fire to it, so much more passion. Their deliveries have some balls and passion, not just smug indifference like Jay-Z. Their flows have intricacies and complexities Jay-Z would never reach. And their brand is deeply married to hip hop in a respectful fashion, vs a rather exploitative one (like Jay-Z did with his approach post-sell out.)

Not to mention I can point out 20+ songs from her that promote cheating, drug use and really poor lifestyle choices. It's probably in a huge % of her music.

I love Jay-Z, one of my favorites and listen to him all the time/personally respect him, but I'd never promote him that much publicly if I was in one of those positions because his music, a huge majority of it, promotes drug use, drug dealing and violence. He played a huge role in creating a culture that creates poverty and violence like no other, and it's hilarious how much both of their bad parts are overlooked.

Blows my mind that it wasn't bigger controversy that they met with the president when you really think about it. It's funny how society chooses to ignore certain things due to brainwashing.

People (like the guy you quoted) are too quick to defend her simply because of the color of her skin, clear bias shows. Her black power bs (don't deny that's what it was) she did at the halftime show and stomping on police cars in music videos causes a lot more damage than people realize, and creates a dangerous culture. Yes, you could always try to find ways to justify stuff like that but truth is it's not justified, it just causes problems.

She's talented musically but she's no role model "because she's married and has a child" lol. I can't stand her. 90% of my favorite music is aggressive/violent but you have to admit reality, people who take that into their personal lives and create a bad culture are doing it wrong.

edit: Alright, despite everything I just said above, I didn't quite realize her talent is this serious.

That's ****ing incredible. She can sing and she has the passion. I don't have to like what she does politically and what she does to culture to say that's amazing talent. This is also one of the few songs from her that is really good, if more of her music was like this (uplifting, not bad or not acting as a bad role model) I'd be a huge fan.

I once smoked a blunt with KRS-One. (Was booked to perform at a festival he headlined.) We talked about how weak mainstream rap is, government corruption, etc. Was a long and enlightening convo. Later on in the festival he gave out free copies of his books and did this crazy lecture about how hip hop is misrepresented in the mainstream. Then he crushed it with a live performance and started a cipher with audience members. That was back in 2009. Almost 10 years ago. It's so much worse now.

Repped. It's a ****ing mystery to me too.

I can name 2-3 above average songs of hers AT BEST in her entire like 15-year discography. Not to mention she's overrated looks-wise.

Beyonce = Pop artist. Modern pop is basically selling sex through music. She's a softcore porn actress who wastes her singing ability on pointless drivel to dumb down the masses. Shoehorns identity politics rhetoric into her music, though she stands in stark contrast to what everyone advocating for her claims - how is this woman a multi-millionaire if "institutionalized racism" is actually a thing within the music industry? All of those stars are slaves to the industry, regardless of their skin color. Fukking idiots.

Jay-Z = Mediocre rap artist who got big right after 2pac and Biggie were gunned down (right place at the wrong time?). Former drug dealer turned entrepreneur who cares more about his colognes and clothing lines than he does his music.

In the long run people like me can produce better music inside an hour on a $0 budget than the song writing committees make in months in multi-million dollar recording facilities. The music industry is "oppressive" against talented musicians, innovative visionaries, and sincere artistic expression. Not black people like the *******s who literally cry when Beyonce loses to Adele think.
Good post and I agree with a lot of it, but I don't think you're giving Jay-Z enough credit. He's one of the all-time hip-hop greats.

I don't think he ever reached his full potential. Best I've ever heard him is during freestyle ciphers backstage. And compared to so many others, I just find his overall vibe underwhelming. Like he never really dug in. Not a big Kanye fan, but I credit the man to having overwhelming passion. In fact, those two need to meet in the middle, level off right in between. Ahahaha.

For some reason Jay-Z has just always been towards the absolute bottom of my list, long before he was as hyped as he is now. I'm talking when Pac and Biggie were still alive and I was just a little kid listening to hip hop with my cousins. I liked 90% of what they listened to, Jay-Z I was always like 'turn this trash off.' That was long before I started to REALLY appreciate hip hop. Totally underwhelming in every regard aside from lyrics that hit on multiple levels.

Obama also invited Rick Ross to the White House.... Great Example Barry
Also Jayz is good lyricist, but is pretty average in everything else. He probably never sold drugs or did any actual crime like he raps about.

It's sad someone of Adele's talent/popularity has to make an entire speech and feel bad about winning an award she deserves just because she knows all the **** she's going to receive from everyone for "stealing" it from beyonce. Why exactly did people think beyonces bull**** lemonade album actually deserved an award over Adele's that probably blows that lemonade **** out of the water in album sales. Not to mention Drake's album was also in the running. How can anyone with half a brain think lemonade could even beat drakes views let alone adele's 25. This **** is getting out of control.

No one told Adele she had to make her speech about Beyonce, she did it on her own. Just because you don't like a type of music or the artist who makes it, does not make it bullsh*t.

I like Adele and I don't think she had to do what she did, but she obviously wanted to.

There's a huge difference between a musician and a singer / rapper. Some people just do better as hired guns, music is one of their talents but the passion is secondary to the business.

What about Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden?

- Turned down performing in the Olympics to tour with his band.
- Flies his band and their entire crew on a jet (as pilot)
- Directed movies
- Hosted a radio show
- Wrote novels / books
- Hosted documentaries
never got into Zappa. I appreciated his virtuoso skills, but other than that, he seemed to do a lot of self masturbating.
Bruce Dickinson is hilarious, but he stayed true to his persona throughout.
I do agree on "bey" being just a product and somehow being pushed as "cool" when i feel indifferent at best about her. she's not really outspoken, or even well spoken, just kind of a figurehead.

She seems very proffesional and unlike most black artists she has few scandals. Also she promotes feminism which leftist Hollywood loves.

If a girl is a huge Beyonce fan I see it as a huge flag. Fuk black hiphop culture

Bruce Dickinson is a smart and multi-talented dude. Talks his sh!t and tells it like it is. He is a pretty funny bastard, he went on several great rants when I saw them live in 2003. He even had a pretty good point recently comparing the energy industry trying to stifle innovation (anything aside from oil) just like how the music industry was trying to stifle streaming music.

http://loudwire.com/iron-maiden-bruc...eynote-speech/

Like I said, I saw them in 2003. Bruce said to the audience "We don't mind you downloading our music. You're here now supporting us, aren't you?!" I thought that was incredibly smart of him. Meanwhile Metallica is trying to sue Napster like little bitches.

Book of Souls is their best since Brave New World, I 'd say. Go look it up ASAP.

But Metallica got compromised by mainstream. Iron Maiden fought their way to the top. Their own record label ****ed them over. 1984, they drop Powerslave, their 5th album. THE SAME DAY, their record label releases "Now That's What I Call Music Volume 1", thus competing with themselves. The next time Iron Maiden were called in for a label meeting they wore shirts that said "Now that's what I call ****ing music" in their font or something like that. Legendary band. Musicianship, live showmanship, and composition. Each album has it's own theme, but retains the signature sound. That's a band in it for the music, and monetizes sh!t in a unique and enjoyable way for fans, vs making retarded coffins (KISS) or body sprays. They got a beer, The Trooper beer. If I was successful I'd brew a fookin' beer. Why the fuk not?

She can't articulate herself worth ****. It's mostly because of all the female pop stars or even actresses out there her personal life is the least messy, or at least she wants it to appear that way

I like Adele and I don't think she had to do what she did, but she obviously wanted to.
Like I said it's sad she felt she needed to make the speech because she knows exactly how all the retards would be crying foul. This way she can still look good in the eyes of millions of unreasonable and clueless idiots aswell as be portrayed in a positive light in all the media stories about how Beyonce got robbed and the Grammys are racist. It's pretty pathetic what this country has come to and the pressure people feel to check their "white privilege".

Its her fault for caring wat ppl think. She won it fair and square df imma share and break my trophy cus of wat some Joe Blow at home thinks. She really did it out of respect and in her heart she thinks Beyonce deserved it too.

That's not how I took it. Maybe she really likes Beyonce and maybe she felt Beyonce should have won?? We really don't know. But I can agree that either way, her speech was definitely self-serving.

I don't agree with your last line, though.
