Fury reminded me of The Thin Red Line . . . WWII movies that looked like they were going to be really good and SHOULD have been really good. But they both tried far too hard to be thinking man's war movies or something and they just got bogged down in trying to be cerebral and playing out tedious plot development.

YMMV, obviously.

Of every movie mentioned by anyone, the only one that I have seen and actually truly disliked was Groundhog Day. There is something about that movie, I don't know if it is the lighting, the music, the style or what but I absolutely hate that movie.

In a sense, it is almost a compliment to the director because I truly feel his frustration in the movie. I genuinely felt trapped while watching it. I really felt like I was in an endless, repetitive cycle of hell. The only thing is that I don't relate to the character, I just hated him too.

The ending was a little disappointing to me but that movie was a visual masterpiece IMO

I think half the fun of a movie like Groundhog Day is imagining how you'd handle the situation. You're supposed to hate Phil, and at the beginning he only does things to take advantage of others and enrich himself, probably like most people. But by the end, it's only after he improves himself and helps others, and apparently falls in love, that the curse is lifted. It's pretty heavy-handed and hits you over the head with it but it's an original way to tell the story. A lot of movies like that, and say Fight Club, have those mental illness undertones that don't really come out until the end.

As for Saving Private Ryan, take away the war scenes and innovative cinematography, which are both plenty enough to make a great movie, and you are just left with crappy acting, dialog and story. Eight or so soldiers are sent on a propaganda mission to save the last remaining brother. It would have just been another cheesy war movie if it wasn't for the newly designed effects, filming techniques, and over the top realism. The opening Normandy scene had nothing to do with the story, it was just a recreation. I would take Platoon or Full Metal Jacket over Private Ryan any day for a re-watch.

Full metal jack is way better then SPR. Hell I just turned on the tv and RED DAWN original was on.

Red Dawn > SPR

God I love that movie! Wolverines!

I never saw Fury but plan on it. I'd easily throw Hacksaw Ridge up there among the best war movies and would likely change it out with one on my list if I spent time on the list. I simply didn't add it since it's a very new movie, but it's easily up there with SPR and BHD.

I'll sometimes go 2 or 3 months like that. I'll eat 5 big meals a day and still be hungry. By the time I resume a normal appetite, I'll have a dozen pounds of new body fat.

Right now I have the appetite of a normal, active human. Much lower food costs.

Damn I forgot about Jurassic Park. I saw that when it came out in theaters and it was realistic/awesome as hell. It still looks pretty good, actually. The sequels are all trash, but the first is up there.

The little easter egg reference to it in one of the Toy Story (Toy Story series could be on my list actually) movies, in the toy barn with Rex chasing the car as seen in the mirror, was great.

Someone mentioned it earlier too, such a good movie. I remember watching it when i was a young kid and being terrified but i loved dinosaurs so i would watch anyways. I watched it again recently cause my wife hadnt seen it and was impressed with how good a job the animatronics did in the movie.

They did a damn good job. For its time it looked amazing. After leaving the theater I honestly though it would be impossible to make dinosaurs look any more real than that.

Then we had those lions in I Am Legend how many years/decades later that looked like crap and it just makes you appreciate jurassic park that much more
