Once you do choose a point to wake up write down exactly what happened then go back to sleep and read it in the morning. I have come to some incredible realization when my mind is allowed to become slightly irrational or perhaps just a little less logical. My perspective can be vastly different, but the bad part is if you don't write it down you won't remember exactly what it was you discovered.
