yeah brah if you are Canadian you gotta be careful of the foreign with holding tax, only way around that is by having usd equity in a RRSP

LOL this. Anyone can do this if they have money.

Step 1: get a few thousand dollars.
Step 2: invest in some sort of income fund.
Step 3: collect roughly 10% per year on your money.
Step 4: act like a douche on a bodybuilding forum about how you have passive income and talk about it like it's some holy grail.

If you don't care about his credibility what do you hope to get from being in this thread?

I'm not mad about it at all, it's just not a financial strategy, and he is promoting his financial strategies and wisdom.
A Higher WAGE is also not a financial strategy, I cannot simply achieve a higher wage unless I increase my level of education or become more skilled.

All the OP is doing is investing in shares and receiving dividends. Big whoop. So is half the country.

Where is the value in this thread?

If anyone can do it why don't they? Fact of the matter is OP lives in a cottam trailer with someone splitting cost while living in the middle of nowhere. What is your excuse for not having a low cost of living and saving more money? Yeah the original post is douchy, but if you don't have passive income you aren't playing the game it is playing you bruh.

The topic at hand is at least worth discussion despite OPs possible lack of credibility. I enjoy getting the opinions of multiple people and seeing the experiences others have had with their investments. I keep an eye on a couple of other "passive" renters who post fairly complex details of their business who are 100% honest about the need to have a full team to keep things going (handyman, lawyer, and a couple cogs in the machine). I enjoy seeing OP's progress in the dividend game so I value his opinion in that regard because that is his focus area.

@OP I appreciate the response. Obviously my situation is a little more complex trying to determine if houses in the area will continue appreciating or not and all the other things that go into it, but that was a solid thought given the parameters. Unfortunately she doesn't want others living with us and it isn't really "splitting" when the 2 of us share our combined incomes lol.
So you are dating a girl and you share your income? Fock dat.
Max your 401k and IRAs as much as possible early on. If there is one credible thi OP has said in this thread it's get your money in early to get the value of time and compounding interest. Play your cards right (and I don't mean pinch every penny) but if you are conservative up front and max your tax deferred ACLU tax, you will see it really start to make good money for you later on in life.

Lmao bruh getting married in 4 months so when I am making money it will be shared. But I am planning on managing our costs and savings. I'm trying to prepare to play conservatively, but alas I have expensive hobbies and the lady wants to live in a castle so I'll have to be wise on the toys I buy myself because she will expect similar dollar figures towards her interests. I think I am worrying over nothing since our combined income will be significant, but I think that is a positive mindset until I prove myself wrong lol.

What planet do you live on where you think most people could save $45,000 in 5 years? I personally could but I live like I'm broke. Even though I'm not.
I woke up this morning still breathing. Might as well take advantage of it.

Ok, your call but saving conservatively for the first few years means a big difference later. My retirements accounts for when I was in corporate did in the neighborhood of $40k in the last 30 days.

I do respect however that time is the important resource, so if living in a $1k apartment is a priority and that keeps you from masking your retirement accounts than I'm cringing but ultimately....your call.

hey OP i seen yo money diary thread and admiring' hard as hell at the numbers but dude look at the timing right now of this thread post.

Household debt in the US is near 2008 levels (sauce:http://money.cnn.com/2017/02/16/pf/a...inkId=34624232)

Wages have not kept up with inflation at all which stiffs economic growth altogether. You're talking to a bunch of early 20s lifters on a bodybuilding forum.
Student debt is at $1.3 trillion right now (sauce:https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...t-a-new-record)
Also the future is uncertain, regarding dividend payments. there are certain companies that are well known for paying dividends throughout economic hard times and there are companies that go back on their word altogether.
One thing about the economy is that some people on the net are wising up altogether. In order for there to be extreme wealth in the world, there has to be extreme poverty. I don't want to be extremely rich, I want to be wealthy enough where I have a regular house with no property taxes, a nice car, close location to gym, and boxing club.

Idk at this point, make another thread about passive income in 2019 once the inevitable depression is dealt with.

brah we need to start talking about being conscious of our spending and money habits rather than keeping the subject taboo. no wonder so many Americans are so trapped in a cycle of debt and consumption.

nah 1k isn't crippling bruh, but if going into a mortgage would be more cost efficient than saving + paying rent I was wondering if that would be the way to go. Between the 2 of us we should theoretically be able to top 200k/year but I won't count those chickens till they hatch.

Mad. 28. No assets and low income(If this not the case feel free to prove it like you've been demanding OP to do at every turn). This is why we gotta spend more money on educating our children in the future so they can think through investing and personal finance.

If you are making a combined $200k/year and can't max your retirement accounts (you said it yourself about only putting in the 3% match) then you need to re-evaluate your finances.

I know a lot of people that theoretically make XYZ money.

There should be a whatsapp group for miscers who do this and those who are getting started. I can get a site to the first page of Google searches but haven't went far enough to profit off ads. Say you have an informational website with 100k visits a month, how could you maximize ad revenue?

Yeah I have to read up before next year on where things max out and where to put money to maximize my future returns. I'll have to look at my benefits and see what all I am offered. I'll probably have to consult with my pops about the IRAs and 401Ks to figure out where to store it. In the meantime I am trying to keep cost of living low on the other end so we can travel, pay off loans, and save without living living like plebs.

we can go back and forth on whose an uneducated pleb and whose giving out false information left and right, the real deal here is the current situation of the economy overall.

If you have debt, you can't invest. I get paid a wage that hasn't kept up with inflation. I'm living at home and the stock market is obviously overvalued right now. There has to be a correction later on. OP is in Canada investing in Canadian stocks. Wtf a Midwestern dude such as myself got to do with finding passive income through stocks?

These type of mistakes is the experience some people need to get to where they want to be in the future. I've made many like these lol
