The reason no one in America uses whatsapp, is that no one in America is using whatsapp. There is literally no user base and hence levels of growth are nearly impossible.

Are we going to go pester our friends and family to download another communication app that NONE of their other friends or family members are using?

This is how that conversation will go:

Americans -"Hey use this communication app that no one else is using for communication"
Friends and family - "Get bent, ramrod"

I think I'd get laughed at if I asked a sloot for a whatsapp username, shed probably be like "what do you greentext or something?"

Sure texts usually get there in a second 99% of the time but it's not like America has different texting. Network delay is a thing and it's usually only a few seconds if it happens.

WhatsApp is good for that alone. 1 tick msg delivered. 2 ticks msg received. Ticks turns blue means message read .

Seamless data to WiFi crossover. Can chat if you have no phone signal somewhere.

Group chat rooms . Sending a text to multiple recipients is not group chat.

I've texted my gf right next to me. I hit send, her phone goes off. I have sent texts to family who lives hundreds of miles away only to see them typing a response within a second of me sending it. How much more "instant" is there?

iPhone does have read reports. I can share my location as well. Nothing you listed can I not already do with iPhone. I can send voice clips, video call (aka FaceTime) and everything else.

People at my university mostly use GroupMe.

That being said, I hate how it just endlessly loops when you try to send a link sometimes.

If some one gives me their "whatsapp" instead of their actual number to text regular with, then i'd immediatly go NC on their ass for being too poverty. Sorry we're not like the rest of the world and can actually afford phone plans

For whatever reason SMS is free in the US but in other countries it is not. So they resort to WhatsApp.

My whatsapp is linked to my phone number? And I have a many friends who live outside of Canada or are from outside of Canada. Everyone uses whatapp here.

Because USA is huge it took a long time for mobiles to take off, because for a long time they network coverage was terrible.

With WhatsApp you can link the account to your PC or tablet and chat without your phone.

You guys are so unaware.

First of all there is no "username" your phone number is your ID. You don't set up an account or "add" people.

It literally accesses your contacts on your device and anyone that has WhatsApp will show up.

So if you did ask someone for their number you would just add it to your phone as normal. When you go to WhatsApp it will just be there in your WhatsApp contacts too automatically.

And lol at trying to put down euro brehs. When we had smartphones you Americans were rocking flip phones lol.

When we had flip phones you guys had brick phones. 100%srs. When I went to USA with my phone ages ago people were like

wow the screen is colour!

Hold on, is that a touch screen? Whuuuuaaaoooh.

Are you browsing the web on it? (Heart attacks and jealousy hating begins).

Meanwhile cell phones in America you guys were PAYING to RECEIVE phone calls Fukin LOOOOOOOOOOOL.

Yeah I'm SRS UK brehs. They would actually have to pay when people phoned their fukin mobiles now they are trying to act like they are the pioneers of unlimited plans.

Even though we had one2one (t mobile) unlimited phone calls in the early 2000s lol.

The reason Americans don't use WhatsApp is cos they are largely followers. If everyone else had it these same guys would be chatting schite about people that text lol.

But because the user base will still grow slowly there will be a tipping point then everyone will use it there too when the sheeple jump on board because everyone else is.

But like everything else to do with phones and Americans it will be like 5+ years after the rest of the world

I use Google Hangouts and I get all of that chit you just mentioned above. Android user checking in.

Androids come with their own messaging software typically and it's poverty. That's why I use hangouts. Whatsapp is tight, I used to use it a lot back in the day.

Every American I know of doesn't worry about texts/minutes. The only thing most plans still charge for is data. So converting what would be free calls and texts into data would hurt most Americans phone bills.

Thinking about canceling my phone provider service. I never use my phone to actually talk to people. 99% is whatsapp, instagram and FB messaging. wtf do i need service for? in case of emergency? Always around wifi and always around someone else that has phone service.

what's the point if person in another country doesn't use whatsapp?

i just use skype when calling overseas and foreign countries. Bit testy at times tho.

Never used Whatsapp but can see the appeal. I prefer regular texting though because I know some people that would whine and cry if they saw that I read their message but didn't respond. **** that noise.
