If you want it to last you 5+ years and you're planning on having 3-4 kids within the next few years maybe she's thinking logically. Though still lol at "let".

i was right there with you a few months ago when my car broke down and I had to get something new. had pretty minimal criteria, just knew I was tired of the coupe bodystyle, didn't want to go bankrupt in maintenance, and wanted a fun car to drive.

I'd say start working backwards. from there. You already know you want a reliable 4 door, so that leans you towards Japanese. You'll have to decide how much interior space you need, what features, how much height, etc etc.

One tool that really helped me narrow down my options was Carmax's car finder tool. You can choose from p much every possible descriptor category to help narrow down to the exact car you want to buy, or to get a general idea of all the car models that will fit your basic criteria, IE say you want a 2005+ AWD 4 door SUV with sub50k mileage, greater than 24MPG, and with a sunroof? You can search those exact criteria on Carmax and assuming they have at least one model in stock nationwide (which they pretty much always will until you start looking at specialty vehicles), it will pop up and you can peruse all the different models.

IMO it's more of a "kids" car. If you're into cars thats cool and all, but theres a lot nicer things on the market for better prices or more with better features, I'd never buy one, but that's my opinion

Do what you want, she's your gf and doesn't own you money legally yet

You're getting a new car and spending in the 30k range while you're an insurance salesman living in the state with the highest COL in the United States while planning to have 3-4 kids with a girl you haven't even been dating for a year who now dictates what kind of car you can drive. You also believe the Earth is flat and said you'd set your hair on fire if Trump won the presidency, which he did (and you never set your hair on fire). It is insane to me that the misc actually takes anything you say seriously

We have a combined income of way over $100k, and the cost of living in the city where she owns a home is 60% of Orange County where I currently live. If I can't swing a $350 car payment, there's something seriously wrong.

Also, the earth is flat. And I've already explained to her I don't believe in dinosaurs because of my religion, and she disagrees but accepts it.

I'll never understand the obsession with those cars. Every person I know that is into that is a complete tool.

Yes, it looks like something a spoiled 16 year old that wears monster logo gear and a tilted flat brim hat would drive. You should honestly feel embarrassed for not understanding why that would be super awkward to take a client in. That is not a vehicle cut out for business dealings in any way. Be an adult and get a full size car, truck, or SUV. You are not in the fast and furious. Driving a stick in no way makes you more alpha, nor is it practical with children. With today's transmissions, you get better performance with an automatic anyway. Grow the fuk up. If you want to beta around in that, do it when you are retired

She's afraid you will drive to the shops in it, then come walking back, and that you won't even realise you lost it until she asks what happened to it.

Wrx is an awesome car. You shouldn't be really dealing with anyone in the back seat while driving regardless. If you drive a wrx you'll get a lot of nods and respect from dudes but most girls does think it looks ricer ish for some reason...

Best car for you is gti bro..u can prob get one 25k otd with a dual clutch automatic transmission. Add 700$ for a stage 1 flash tune and your making same power as an sti but with faster shifts and a lighter car plus better fuel economy. Looks Subtle but classy. Also this is the 5th year for the mk7 gti so it's pretty reliable as well

Or dump the girl and kids and get a mustang gt hehe

Listen man, if it's your money and it's something that you feel you would enjoy driving, you should definitely go for it.

But you're making the wise move by not to completely neglecting her points.
I think if you ask them as broader questions, it may be easier to identify with.

Does it appeal to the adolescent side of you, purchasing solely for its 'sporty' look?
In terms of interior and drive, can it fit business partners (and passengers in general) comfortably?
Will kids be in the picture? If so, what role does the car play then?

The thing about cars is that they're typically a major investment in everyone's life, good on you for asking yourself what to do. On the misc? Maybe not so much.
Regardless, at the end of the day it is yours to decide with confidence.

she's right you know.jpg

i met up with an accountant who drove a wrx, immediately tuned out and started thinking about my other options while he was babbling

wrx is fine up until you're in college but after that.....

let's be real, 99% of wrx buyers either:

1) just bought whatever car seemed like the best deal at the time

2) upgrade the **** out of it but never drive over 80 mph and enjoy letting everyone know they're leaving/coming home

3) buy it and do 0 upgrades just to impress teenage boys and people in category #2

If you're buying it to actually race and drive the **** out of it then go for it but if not pick a more adult car

I plan on getting a regular WRX soon. STI with the wing makes it look more riced out.

Now getting a cheap exhaust, giving it fart cans, putting ugly ass wheels on it. That's what makes it look like a kids car.
