How would a brown man with a white gf and kids be received in the 'deep south' USA?

Just a general question, with a lot of bullchit media going around I'd rather ask people who live there or have been there, how would a brown man (not Moslem) with a blonde haired blue eyed gf with mixed race kids be received in the deep south?

Is racism still very bad there?

Could it lead to physical incidents or just verbal?

I've heard of southern hospitality but is that just for other White people?

I love the parts of the US i have already visited but the south has never come up as a place to visit, so thinking of doing a big road trip along it.

It's really not a big deal at all...honestly,we don't care.

You do get tired of seeing the same jokes about the south; that's probably the closest we get to thinking about it.(Always a racist southern joke in every movie it seems)

That's from someone who lives in North Carolina, so I can't say for sure for other places.

Contrary to it's portrayal by the media, the south is probably less racist then most other regions of the country.
Most people don't think twice about mixed race relationships anymore.

Racism is actually much less in the south. People argue that its greater because of our history but they are incorrect. The percentages of African Americans are MUCH higher in the south and everyone interacts so much, racism is at a minimum. I know plenty of "good ol' boys" that will get in your face if you call an African American a negative name. It surprises Northerners but it doesnt surprise a southern. I find racism is much more prevalent in areas where there are low populations of African Americans (North/West). I've heard comments and conversations in the north that I never dreamed of hearing in the South (srs)


Yes you will hear stories about racism in small towns but its amplified by the news because its the south. I lived in a very small town in Georgia and grew up in the 70s. I never saw much racism. If it existed in the south I should have had a front row seat but I never really saw it. You have to remember this is the Bible belt and pretty much everyone has the values of "treat others as you would yourself"..Its why southern hospitality and friendliness are know as a thing

One of my good friends is a Pakistani Muslim and I've never seen or heard of him getting grief....If you have a long beard, wearing traditional clothes or your girl is wearing a head covering you might get some suspicious looks in very small towns.

I am from Mississippi, and I couldn't care less who's married to whom. There are tons of interracial relationships here. It's 2017, brah. I have a lot of friends and not a single time have I heard them say anything cross-ways about interracial relationships and only one acquaintance of mine has used an epithet. We don't hang out much.

If you're traveling on a major highway, and staying in major cities or towns you won't have any problems.

1)North Carolina: Durham, Raleigh, Wilmington, Charlotte, all really diverse areas. Outer Banks have some of the best beaches on the East Coast; Corolla and Duck beaches.
2)South Carolina: Charleston is regularly ranked best city in the US and sometimes the World. Greenville is an up and coming town. Hilton Head Island is a great resort community with nice beaches.
3)Alabama: I've traveled through, but haven't stayed in the state. Been to an Alabama football game at a neutral site, and their fans were extra classy.
4)Georgia: Atlanta is a huge city like any big city in the US. Savannah is a cool water front town.
5)Mississippi: Biloxi and Gulfport are smaller, newer, and cleaner versions of Atlantic City. After Hurricane Katrina they rebuilt everything. Off the beaten path you could see a pickup with a Confederate Flag, but isolated. Pascagoula is another nice little town.
6)Arkansas: Little Rock is a surprisingly cool city. Downtown is small but historic, and on the river front. People rave about the Ozarks, just passed through there.
7)Louisiana: I've just passed through, but New Orleans is like any big city, and Baton Rouge and Shreveport are similar but smaller.

You'll be safe on I-95, Route 40.

Don't know about nowadays but someone I know went to college somewhere in Alabama in the 1980s and said most people were shocked to see someone of his skin color in the sense that it was possible to look like him, not shocked in a bad way. Guess they never seen an Indian before

^^^This guy pretty much nailed it.

Must visit places on the list: Charleston, Savannah, New Orleans, Nashville (not on the list), Destin Florida (water is as clear as the Caribbean). Atlanta if you want to visit the San Fran of the East the coast. Not my favorite city but there is plenty to do around the city.



If you like hiking and camping, let me know. I can give you the best places. I've been all over the south for the last forty years and I know the published and unpublished spots.

few people care at all. But where you live has alot to do with image. If you live in a podunk back woods town, then its not gonna be all that pretty.
