I forgot Asheville NC. Its a small city in the mountains of NC. Its beer town US. There is and or was more breweries per square mile than anywhere on earth. Beer is ridiculous, people are cool and scenery is AMAZING. There are places like the Biltmore mansion in this area that your girl will dig seeing. You will kick yourself for wasting time there when the area has so much to offer. I've traveled all over the world and Asheville is in my top five cities in the world.

Gattlinburg TN - Its a mountain town in Tennessee. Its gawdy tourist trap but its loads of fun.

Blue ridge Georgia -Small north Georgia mountain town. Has a train that leaves and visits nearby towns. Cool town, good eating and loads of hiking around the city.


Cahutta wilderness for thousands of acres of North Georgia mountain camping..Outside of the Colorado its some of the best scenery you will find. You can spend a month in the woods here. (Jacks river falls, Panther creek, etc, etc) One of the best kept outdoor secrets in the nation.
Sliding rock NC - Huge natural water slide. The film last of the Mohicans was filmed in this area. The smoky mountain highway runs through this area. Its one of the top ten drives. Well worth plotting a drive.
Providence park - Grand Canyon of the south.
Appalachian trail - Spend a few days in.
Great Smokey mountain national park - Hike for days in a secluded mountain forest. PURE HNGGGGG



If you are going to hike and camp do it in the Spring and Fall. It is miserable in the summer. You will sweat your balls off even if you are high in the mountains and deep in the woods. Its not the heat that gets you its the heat and humidity combo. The spring and fall are basically South Cali weather. April-May and Late Sept-October are amazing.

As a guy that visits Australia frequently America and Australia are nothing alike when it comes to racial issues. We had our issues with slavery and subsequently we focus on racial issues. In my opinion Australia's racism as well as Europe's are off of the charts compared to Americas. I have experienced trouble numerous times when traveling with my African American boss in both countries.

Can you be more specific about Atlanta? Because I went there and drove around for hours and it was all a sh*thole not worth visiting. Then at the very end of our trip we decided to go to BW's to see the Rhonda Rousy fight. Suddenly we ended up in a better part of town that we hadn't seen yet. I have no idea where we were, but I'll just say you can't randomly go to Atlanta and drive around and think its a good city. And I mean we literally drove around for hours! A comedian said to put Barnes & Noble in the GPS, because they never put a B & N in the hood. Sure as sh*t there was a B & N by that BW's we ended up at. LOL

The US has 300+ million people bro, and is easily accessible from the rest of the world. Not so much for Australia, at any point in it's history.

Well Atlanta does have the largest LTBQ community in the US, so he hit the nail on the head with San Fran of the East.

Nice list. I would definitely second the Gulport/Biloxi area. Its also reasonably close to New Orleans, so its a natural path. Its not the world's best by any means, but I was surprised at how nice it was. I actually drew the shortest straw at work and was "forced" to go there to check it out for a project we were bidding. Turns out we should have been fighting to go there, not fighting against it.

As far as the confederate flag, you are going to see that displayed plenty as soon as you hit the south. The only thing I'll say without getting sidetracked is it doesn't quite mean what people from outside the south have said it means. Don't get freaked out.

Haha, indeed. Most of us have shoes, air conditioners, and sometimes we even ride in cars.

Downtown Atlanta sucks. Its one of my least favorite cities and I live about 45 minutes from the center of the city. I live near Atlanta because its one of my favorite areas, however. We are three hours from the beach, three hours from the mountains, have good weather year round, have amazing eating, sports teams that constantly let us down and have a global airport that I can get direct flights to anywhere in the world.

In regards to places to visit:

Buckhead - If you want upper end area. Good night clubs, high end food and shopping
Midtown - Its basically San Francisco. Loads of culture parks, etc
Little five points - Urban city with in a city. Everything urban, Gritty shops, restaurants, etc
Stone Mountain - Huge rock...great hike fun to visit
Old town Roswell - Great bars restaurants and night life
Lake Lanier - Huge party lake..Hundreds of boats linked up for parties on the weekend
Woodstock Georgia - Refurbished town. Great food...Decent night life..Ranked in the top places in the US to live.
Athens - Great college town with a good vibe. GO DAWGS!!!!!!
Inman park - Trendy "park" city




Just outside of Atlanta
Blue ridge - Small mountain town. Amazing everything- Scenery, food, trains, etc
Helen - Small German replica town. Great for a giant beer and some German food

The sad thing about Atlanta is that it sucks for the casual visitor. You basically have to know where to go to experience why its grown like it has after the Olympics. People come here to visit and then end up staying. The cost of living is ridiculous and the opportunities are endless. If you cant get a job in this town, its you.

Don't always believe everything you see or hear. I have lived here most of my life. It's no more racist or less racist than other places I've been or people I've known from other places.


And like one of the miscers above me mentioned, there's not much in Mississippi you would want to see. The coast is ok, but you have to really like casinos because we have plenty. The Natchez Trace is quite cool. We have super hot summers, no mountains, no beautiful streams, and it's sort of a dreary place. I live waaay out in the country so I have a decent view all the time.

The Mississippi flag has the Stars and Bars in it, so it is what it is. I've seen it in parts of Tennessee, and Virginia too. You're right, really depends on the people.

I've been all over the south and never had an issue. People are usually pretty friendly and easy to talk with.

Lived in the south all across - ATL, Destin, Asheville NC. Out of all the places, Asheville was my favorite, should definitely look into it as its a very weird, eccentric, but beautiful town

Good post, visited Ashville a few years back and fell in love with the city . Great waking up to the mountains in the morning. Future destination if i ever decide to move

Florida's a fairly "northern" state - most people on the west coast of Florida moved from the Midwest, and most of the east coast are New Englanders. Some of the crazy crackers and swamp people are probably pretty racist, but I doubt you'd want to move there anyway.

The friendliness aspect is what keeps me in the south. When I lived up north I was shocked at how cold they are to strangers. They don't notice it, obviously. I guess its easy to say you aren't racist when you can prove that you are a dick to everyone equally.
