Gotta say it seems like the correct response, I'm glad guys like Mattis and McMaster are there to make these important decisions while Trump enjoys his weekly getaway to South Florida.

Also, can someone get Trump some glasses? I've never seen someone so bad at reading from teleprompter.

Sure the hegemony is great, sure, but does a civil war in Syria really affect it at all? I don't think so. We let people kill each other all over the world. If it had that much of an impact then we would have been involved in military actions with nearly half of the world over the past 60 years. People are always fighting and killing each other.

I don't see what we're gaining from this at all. I don't see what Syria is gaining from it, again they're in a civil war, a large chunk of the country agrees with the regime and wants them to win, what are we going to do about those people?

Here we go again. Someone "crossed a line", now chit has to go down, which in turn will lead to more suffering/refugees......but US gonna virtue signal with some missiles. If Assad did in fact do this, should of known to kill his civilians with traditional bombs. First a picture a boy washed up on a beach, now of one recently gassed.....but apparently, one blown apart by shrapnel would of been preferable.

I'm not worried about Putin. I'm worried about Trump who has shown he is as impulsive as a human being can get and has the authority to launch a nuke at any time. Not exactly reassuring.

Trump isn't stupid enough to launch nukes . This was a reasonable response given the circumstances but now we have to keep our eye on Russia even more .

Tillerson said earlier that purging ISIS was the #1 goal in Syria. I'm guessing they'll turn to Russia to "fix' the Assad problem.

So after today's action, there was not even an investigation done into the source of the attacks, and he's already firing missiles. Seems pretty stupid to me.

What do you have now in Syria? A SITTING Assad and a chaotic jihadi wonderland and massive humanitarian crisis.

It's a no win situation. Obama knew it and Trump just learned it. They can sit on their hands and try to "contain" the Syrian conflict, but that clearly hasn't worked and won't magically begin to work. So they can look and see how Obama failed in Syria and try a different method. "Definition of insanity" and all that. I'm not an expert on the intricacies of Middle Eastern tribal conflicts, but the people who are are coming up with the best possible alternative to Assad's rule as we speak.

It's odd to watch Trump totally change his attitude in the past 72 hours. The realities of the complexity of international diplomacy is hitting the Trump admin, and hopefully Trump and Tillerson can learn on the fly. I don't think they can, but I hope I'm wrong. I'm also putting a lot of faith in guys like Mattis and McMaster to keep them focused and maybe just keep Trump out of the way while they handle business.

Ithink it is but Trump's challenge here was to retaliate against a chemical weapons attack on civilians. The question is: where does he go from here. It is totally legitimate to say that this strike was intended to warn Assad not to do it again, without getting involved further militarily.

That's a great point.

Dead kids are dead kids. Does it really matter how they died? Why is using chemical bombs in a civil war better than using traditional bombs in a civil war?

The reality is that Syria is in a civil war. A large chunk of the country wants the regime to win. A large chunk of the country wants the rebels to win. Me? I don't care who wins. I could not care any less. I don't want ISIS to win because they are a threat to me and the regime is fighting ISIS as far as I know. If that's the case then the regime winning would be just fine in my book.
