And don't get me wrong, I'm not an Assad nuthugger, especially since he funneled arms through NW Iraq to the various clerics and their fighters (like Iran) but I just don't like this.

If we were looking to destabilize Syria, we would have gone the route of Lybia, and bombed the leader. Instead, we removed the threat of Assad targeting his own people.

>This was not the action of a President targeting a Middle-Eastern regime, but rather one of a President removing the thread of a regime posing a threat to innocent lives. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson declared that the resolution of the Syrian conflict is an international concern, not one of the United States alone.

>Secretary of State's statement on Assad is as follows:

>"The process by which Assad would leave is something that requires an international community effort both to first defeat ISIS within Syria, to stabilize the Syrian country to avoid further civil war and then to work collectively with our partners around the world through a political process that would lead to Assad leaving."

>This does not indicate a desire to continue a foreign policy of "kill the leader, allow destabilized chaos." This indicates a desire to neuter the military of Assad, and to, as Trump stated during his campaign, set up safe zones in Syria to eradicate the extremist rebels and allow the state to organize. Unlike in Iraq and Afghanistan, the US will seek aid from neighboring states, such as Jordan, who have interest in Syria stabilizing, and not falling to terrorists. Restructuring of failed Middle Eastern regimes will be better handled by current prosperous secular Middle Eastern states.
Well this plan sounds a whole hell of a better than anything that Bush/Obama/Clinton/Cheney ever put together.

Not sure how that's relevant at all.

People certainly, certainly, absolutely no doubt about it, suffer from normal bombs too. Absolutely no doubt about it. Suffering happens in war. Why does it matter what caused the suffering? Chemical weapon, normal bomb, fire, building collapsing and crushing a person, bullet, whatever, they're all going to cause suffering. I don't think that it matters. Suffering happens. Suffering in war happens. Innocent people die. Innocent people die in war. Syria is in a civil war. It isn't our responsibility to stop it or to make sure that the Syrian people don't suffer in certain ways.
Chemical weapons were banned because of what they do to the many people who don't die.

I guess it's been long enough that the decisions made by people who experienced the consequences of chemical weapons, and agreed that they were too horrible even for war, can be ignored to further some argument about Donald Trump being good or bad.

Assad gassed his own people before, this is nothing new from Assad. It is, however, a new American administration that clearly will not allow it to continue like Obama did.

You guys sound like globalists right now. Bleeding heart liberals.

To equate a terrorist killing an American (I'll assume you're referring to a terrorist killing an American since my posts here have concerned Americans, not foreigners) to a Syrian killing another Syrian is ridiculous.

Is it sad that innocent Syrians are dying? Yes, of course it is. But the reality is that they are in a civil war. People die in civil wars, innocent people included. We had our own civil war. It isn't fun.

Ask yourselves: how the heck does a civil war in Syria have any impact on Americans? It doesn't. Well, until we take out the guys who keep terrorists at bay, then ISIS takes over and grows in power, allowing them to hurt Americans.

There were multiple incidents but none were ever directly tied to Assad. Not that it proves he's innocent, but I'm sure that if he was responsible for the previous incidents, the US would have used that to their advantage to take additional action in Syria.

Personally, I'd like see photos of the chemical delivery vehicles used if Syrian planes really did carry out the attack.

The question was likely less of if Trump would launch a strike and more of what the targets would be.

Bombing an airport with advance notice will make for all sorts of headlines but doesn't set Assad back very far at all.

It was clear Assad carried out the gas attack in 2013. He called Obama on his bluff. Obama gave him warning that if a gas attack occurred, that was a "red line" that he would cross and have to face consequences. Obama did nothing.

ITT: some people have zero fuking clues as to how powerful the US military is. We spend more than the next 25 countries on earth on military COMBINED. Of which, 24 are allies.

What happened today as far as cost goes would be like me firing a single 124grain 9mm FMJ at an intruder in my home when I have 500,000 bullets in my garage. It's nothing. A drop in the bucket of military spending. Technologically speaking we have the largest military power in the world just in our navy on the water. That's not counting their backups of airforce and last resort marines/army/actual boots. There is no WWIII ever going to happen. Not in our lifetimes by a long shot.
I woke up this morning still breathing. Might as well take advantage of it.

The reality is we take very few heavily vetted people from Syria. They are good, hard working people.

I totally agree that neighbors should pitch in. Saudi Arabia should create safe havens for millions of refugees funded by Nato (equally).

Did children die in the bombing that just took place? Did Trump send in troops resulting in children getting killed? What children died that I'm unaware of?

Did he say he doesn't care? I don't get it.

I was trying to figure out why he would support war over humanity. Then I figured out it's because Syria is a Muslim country. If Syria was located in Europe and the people were Christian, he might be more welcoming to those who are literally getting gassed to death.

Theres no good solution here. Middle east is fuked either way. This is probably trump's best option to dispel the russia conspiracy bs and make us look strong. Yeah it's a waste of tax money but so is bringing in mounds of refugees.

The ones he could have saved by letting some of them into the country instead of banning them. Banning them means he doesn't care about their lives what is hard to understand about that?
