Driving 1.5 hours isnt too bad if you spend a good part of the day out there, up towards sac was the other option my buddy was talking about- so 2 hours that way as well. We definitely should get together at some point, both for the shooting and the hiking/climbing idea.
We usually get a pretty early start so that we can make the most of the day. We've also camped out there before which is fun.

Oh mine gawt . . . I am stuffed.
Found this little, hole-in-the-wall Italian joint . . . place has like 7 tables in the whole dining room. Run by a guy named "Sal". He had it printed on his v-neck tshirt. Got a plate of spaghetti and meatballs that I couldn't even eat half of. Came with about 12 big slices of garlic bread. Wife got spaghetti. Took home a medium pizza and a large calzone for the kids.
$35.

Ffs I can't find old posts, I wanted to see the shield holsters plateau (I think that's his name) mentioned to me.
I bought a CYA made by veterans for my shield and then I got a rawdog tactical holster for the Canik. Idk if I goofed with the CYA (if the rawdog company is better, the rawdog company makes shield holsters too) ..
Cya doesn't make any holsters for Canik

Believe it or not this is the best appendix holster I have found for 9mm shield. It's cheap enough that it won't hurt if you decide you don't like carrying that way. It rides high and keeps the bbl from jabbing you when you sit down.
https://smile.amazon.com/BLACKHAWK-A...ld+holster+9mm
I have alien gear, blade tech, and multiple others for shield. I pretty much always carry the first one because I normally carry the .45 and it is perfect for my needs. I like the adjustable cant and how it keeps the gun in tight to my body. I can wear a relatively fitted T shirt and no printing unless I bend weird. Appendix is great, but I haven't found a good appendix carry option for the .45 the blade tech is advertised as such but it rides lower and the bbl jabs my leg.
I live in SW Cook too.
Check out Rinks in Lockport off 355 and 171. They just redid their indoor range and it's nice. Can't remember the price but it's cheap and no time limit. I always s shoot for free there from buying stuff and getting range passes. I don't shoot much indoors if I can avoid it.
Also you can find mags crazy cheap for Shields. I bought 5 for each at $19 per. I like to rotate mags every month or two to keep the springs from the extra fatigue, not sure that it matters but whatever....
One last thing get a good belt. It makes a big difference. I like these and bought two

Life passes most people by while they're making grand plans for it. Throughout my lifetime, I've left pieces of my heart here and there. And now, there's almost not enough to stay alive. But I force a smile, knowing that my ambition far exceeded my talent. There are no more white horses or pretty ladies at my door.

Yeah, if I'm gonna be waxing this thing fairly often as I plan to, an electric buffer will absolutely be necessary. That was way more fukin elbow grease than I bargained for lol.

Had a good time at the range. Shot 300 yds, then pulled targets in the pit while the other relay shot 300/600 yds, then shot from 600 yds. Couple of pics. I felt like I did better at 300 yds than I expected and worse at 600 than I expected. I got into a funk single loading my sighters improperly, jamming them causing bullet set back, and having to clear and pull a new round. It was unsettling. Was basically too slow on the two misses screwing around. Felt ok for my first time shooting at 600 yds. Can't wait to go back.
Score Card

300 yd target

600 yd target

600 yds is far.

The little structure on the right there is a machine gun bunker for practicing with a 50 cal. The road next to it is completely littered w/ richocheted 50 BMG bullets. Picked one up that was in good condition because I couldn't believe it was just laying there.
Lots of fun. This was shot at Academi. I was going to buy a shirt at the proshop but they closed at noon on Saturdays.
