OOP north, it's a bit more traditional engish, the older northerners in my family think women should 'know their place' a bit more than the southerners, working mens clubs, suspicious of strangers ,but once you are accepted thats it. In the south quite a few either fight or ignore their neighbours, up north everyone seems to know each others business in the street. They don't like poofs {gays} up north , as well certainly in the places I have lived , more tolerant than it used to be though, but down south people care less. Iam really generalising here, and times change, but up north times and attitudes tend to change a bit slower. everything is a bit slower really.

You had all the big industrys up north as well, mining, steel workers, pottery, and those industrys fostered a real sense of community, that has all gone now, but these days there is far more reliance up north on government whether that be public service jobs, or welfare. But again, it's not as simple as to call people up north lazy, those industries people relied on,They all went, and the government down south never bothered reskilling all those people. What should have been a crime, was putting all those unemployed miners on sickness benefit {to give them some extra cash}, rather than spending money reskilling them, and it caused the situation we have today with british welfare, as the welfare state expanded and so many people rely on government. We have generations who have never worked in their lives. And what did the government do, they let employers bring in loads of migrants who work for nowt and exploit the generous system themselves. Sending british welfare benefit money to their own countries. They ought to have 'encouraged' , those Brits who have never worked, forced if needs be, on pain of no more welfare, and forced employers to pay them a decent wage.

- go to london for a few days for business
- eating dinner alone in restaurant night I arrive
- listening to conversations around me
- brb everything I hear is bragging about career and assets, everyone trying oneupmanship
- soulless city of antisocial unhappy people
- hearing accents of my own people at terminal for flight home brings instant relief

Don't get me wrong London as a city is amazing to visit, so much to see and do, but its one of the most heartless places I've ever been and I've covered most of Europe. The people in the north of England have spirit, community, humour and soul (spent a fair bit of time in Yorkshire), same with Scotland and definitely the same with Ireland (I'm from NI) but the south always feels so fake and depressing to me.

100%

I'll never go to London, can't imagine anything more depressing than the kunts who call it home, the infestations of undesireables, and the sort of people who deem it worthy of a visit for a night out

This is very true. But, at the same time, I dont think it would be right to completely blame the government for the malaise.

This is one thing a lot of americans understand and the reason why many of them become successful. Too many people here too readily rely on government handouts. There is an entire class of people with multiple generations that have not worked. The traditional british industries were never going to survive globalization. They would never be able to compete with the bottom level prices that places like China dole out en masse. Whilst I agree that the government failed to establish the "Northern Powerhouse" years ago...there is a strong and persistant "anti-intellectualism" which is strong in the North. People dont value education or being informed and, in the age of information, one is setting themselves up to fail by thinking that such a mentality can foster any kind of survival.

The problem is that there is a minimum amount of money needed to live, and you can't retrain and earn it at the same time without considerable effort - when you're raised by workshy adults on benefits finding that effort is difficult

There are too many people for the amount of jobs now that most industry is shutdown... It's like that region in the middle of America that was a coal town, and they're all pissy about the environmental regulations ruining their way of life. Most people would tell them to just move, but to move they need money, to a city even more. To retrain they need money. To retrain and earn money to live at the same time would require considerable effort from people who have been living a slow-town life for generations.

The majority of people cannot adapt that quickly

anyone brought up with any real decency would not discuss assets/money at a date/lounge wherever. it sounds like you overheard the traditional conversations in LA hot spots. those tools hangout in cringe areas of london such as The "Royal" Boroughs, mayfair, etc. The typical SW londoner i met in clapham, battersea, etc was a nurse, bartender, software developer, etc that lived in a flatshare with 3 other people and just enjoyed being able to enjoy a patio beer in clapham commons.

it sounds like you got off the plain and beelined to a kensington cocktail lounge. das not it mane.

edit: got off the plain... ... .. .... plain.

Compared to the south of England the north is poor, uneducated and underdeveloped. Evenmoreso their women are hideous ogres. How can anyone see those as redeeming qualities? It's like saying Mississippi is a better place to live than Southern California. Fukkin lol!

I always have lunch in the Langham and everyone is happy, no bragging, they don't need to, the RR Ghost outside, the minimalist Patek Philippe's and the fitted, tailored clothing all say everything that is needed to be said.

I would totally live in London if I had 10mill+ networth. Belgravia, Kensington, Marylebone, Mayfair etc are great places to live and go out.

Unfortunatly everywhere else especially the East are chitholes like Dagenham and Canning Town.
