Eh ...don't feel sorry for that passenger at all since he'll be getting lots of money soon. When will it be my turn to be dragged out like a sack of potato from a plane?

Fuk the story--which was shocking btw from both parties--but these memes are awesome. His phone is probably ringing 24/7 from lawyers wanting to represent him... but yeah, use some of your payout to lose some fuking weight.

It's strange the amount of people here who are part of "no tip crew" because you're essentially settling a labor dispute between employer/employee, when we've also got an inordinate amount of people defending United here.
It's not a passenger's problem that United needs to move their personnel on an overbooked flight. That's United's problem. It's either a staffing issue (not enough employees in the right places) or logistical one (not enough flights). But to demand a passenger give up their seat after they're already on the plane so you can move a few people around? That's insane. It's poor business practice.
And if it's so important that these 4 United employees make it to their destination, why was the compensation only $800? If they're so critical, you're talking about an entire different plane not being able to take off. That's probably close to 200-250 passengers, and another half dozen crew. That's quite a hefty dollar amount.
Or maybe these 4 United employeesweren'tthat critical, and United just made an absolutely colossal miscalculation.

whatever happened to first come, first serve? He was already on the plane, in his seat. Airline messed up. Anyways, I bet he will get a lot more than $800 when this is over. The airline will lose a lot.
They overbook flights because there are always cancelations and no shows, but sometimes everyone or more than expected shows up. They usualy give a refund and a discounted flight, some kind of perk. I know of people who have had this happen and a couple of them got a full refund and a free flight, one got a discount and then got moved to first class on the next flight an hour later. One guy I know claims he got put on the next flight along with a partial refund, and claims he smashed a flight attendant on the layover.

You don't board the flight, until you have either found the number of volunteers needed through compensation, or sorted out the IDB situation.
That's it. By boarding and seating the passengers, then coming back prior to take off, and demanding people leave the flight, you have just completely changed the situation, and the passenger/consumer perception.
On top of that, if you try to enforce IDB(Involuntary Deniale of Boarding), after the fact, and someone doesn't want to give up their seat, you should up the compensation to get someone else to voluntarily leave. But physically forcing a passenger out of his seat, of off the flight, who is neither violent nor a danger to the passengers/crew, is crazy.
The non-violent, non-dangerous passenger deserved to be physically assaulted? Interesting.

I assume that often there are seats open once the over booked flight is boarded, from those that are late or just no shows. Which makes this such a rare occurence.
