I assume that often there are seats open once the over booked flight is boarded, from those that are late or just no shows. Which makes this such a rare occurence.

Regardless of the reason why they needed that seat, if the airline tells him he has to get off and he says no. Security is there to get him off. If he still refuses to move, they can't just say "oh okay you wont get off, you can stay then". No. They will take him off by force if necessary. It's not like they beat the guy down. It clearly looks like the security guy pulled him out of the seat.
I'm not saying the airlines were in the right. But we don't know the exact circumstances. We do know that the airlines apologized to the passengers and admitted they ****ed up with over booking. They looked for volunteers first while offering more money than the flight cost.
At the same time, this is the issue with security these days. Its almost impossible to do your job. You tell the person they need to leave. They refuse to leave. You either a. use force and it turns out like this sjw witch hunt or b. it doesn't get resolved until authorities get there making them pointless in the first place.

i was thinking
maybe its actually in the agreement you sign/ contract you enter into, when buying tickets, that they have the right to deny you your flight
its extremely unlikely physically assaulting someone, not done by legitimate LE, is going to be ok
but just wondering

I still don't understand why would they kick him off just to replace him with someone else if the flight was overbooked? did that mean the person who were to replace his seat was more important? wtf?

I'm not sure physically removing someone from a plane like that is ever the correct way to handle it.
I'm once again going to ask why these 4 United employees were so critical to the operations of United that this was the "best course of action?"
If they're so important to get to their destination, there has to be a better alternative. Maybe flying them on a private plane? If they're important enough that a passenger who refuses to get off an already boarded plane, so much so that they have to be physically removed against their will, surely they can afford that?

If a Passenger is asked to volunteer, UA will not later deny boarding to that Passenger involuntarily unless that Passenger was informed at the time he was asked to volunteer that there was a possibility of being denied boarding involuntarily and of the amount of compensation to which he/she would have been entitled in that event.

I'm going to email whatever contact info United has abou such things and tell them I'm never flying them again (not that I would to begin with because they suck). I'm more pissed about their response to this. "Ohh our bad - I guess this wasn't the best way to deal with this." Fck that.

I would gladly get ktfo'd by security for the amount of cash he's about to get. Of course it happens to a Dr that doesn't need it.

guy went silent when he was being dragged away because he had dollar signs in his eyes.
Amazing acting running about the plane muttering in fear.
Guy knows he's set, probably popping bottles right now.

Why do I always hear stuff like this about from American Airline companies .... Do you guys have the worst fukkin companies in your airline industry or what? .. You never hear stuff like this happening in Emirates, Singaporean, Sri Lankan, Malaysian etc ... Do international airlines run domestic flights inside the US? if they dont, they definitely should because I'm sure it'll be a much better experience lol.

However, the GAs know how many are booked, and which crew members need to catch a ride, before boarding.

Sounds like some airlines don't board the plane so what do I know.

What other incidents are you talking about? I think it is no secret that American news stories get a lot of international press, even more so on this forum. I think if you did some digging you could probably find issues with every airline. Maybe not to this magnitude but Im sure they arent without hiccups.
