Did not know we'd never legit used one. I wonder if they feel special

BRB - 1 mile blast radius. To give you an idea, the Tomahawk missiles we launched last week are about 1K lb bombs. So imagine 23 of those guys as one.

This is the cloud from a 2000 pound JDAM we dropped. This pic was taken over 10 kilometers away. I was close to it and it sucked the air out of my lungs, deafened me, and lifted a truck slightly on two wheels. I cannot even imagine what a bomb over 20,000 pounds does. Holy fuk

I wonder how many of those they have laying around over there or what.

Could imagine being the JTAC to call that one up. "I am requesting... THE MOTHER OF ALL BOMBS.....pls respond". Obviously not how it happened but would be lulzy

Tsar Bomba wasn't made with depleted uranium, either. Had they switched out the lead for that it had a theoretical yield of 100+ megatons.

Largest weapon the US has ever had was 25 megatons - it was retired 40+ years ago, though.

Which the blast wave would have killed the crew dropping it lmao. Even at 50 megatons they said it almost knocked the plain out the air.

On thermobaric bombs like this one:

According to a U.S. Central Intelligence Agency study,[15] "the effect of an FAE explosion within confined spaces is immense. Those near the ignition point are obliterated. Those at the fringe are likely to suffer many internal, and thus invisible injuries, including burst eardrums and crushed inner ear organs, severe concussions, ruptured lungs and internal organs, and possibly blindness." Another Defense Intelligence Agency document speculates that because the "shock and pressure waves cause minimal damage to brain tissue…it is possible that victims of FAEs are not rendered unconscious by the blast, but instead suffer for several seconds or minutes while they suffocate".[16]
