So it's immoral to tell someone not to kill others? It's immoral to tell others not to lie and streal? You calling others stupid?

Also money is far from the only incentive for people to succeed and try their best in life.

In ethical philosophy, and religion, 'allowed' can imply ethical permission, or lack of compunction when doing an action. Within the context of a non-legally binding ethical framework.

I don't mean to sound pretentious, I'm just honestly used to those tone of words, due to being interested in religion and ethical philosophy for a while. Terms like; injunction, obligation, allowed, permissible, are used a lot outside the context of government/legislation in ethical discussions.

My point is your suggesting charities have a moral highground because they do what appears to be good work. Some of them are corrupt and as we both established they follow or are influenced by the catholic church which we also both established was a hoarding religion so again what dont u understand what im saying.

If u dont understand it appears u are suggesting for people to donate to charity because its their ethical duty when we both have established the points above and in no way does donating to charity maybe you a good person anyone can donate to charity what makes someone donating to charity ethical superior to someone who would rather spend that money on their future/family/kids

I am against corrupt charities. There are non corrupt charities.

I think that the $100,000 per person and $50,000 for raising children that the author proposes, is enough to spend on future/family/kids.

And I think it would be good to give the rest to reputable charities.

Lets just say you make more than this "maximum moral income" but instead of spending it, you invest it so you can retire young? Or do people owe the poor a larger section of their lives to work so that poor people can live their lives the way they wish.

Poor people need to stop being poor if they don't like poverty. SRS. No that isn't an asinine statement. Of course nobody wants to live in squalor, but they would rather live that way than put forth the effort to do better. This excludes people with disabilities beyond their control but those actually make up such a small percentage that it would be easy to take good care of them, but a vast majority of them are impulse driven idiots that just want to indulge in vices as pleasure. Now, if they had goals, dedicated themselves to what actually improved their lives, didn't just make them feel good at the moment, they wouldn't be in poverty.

I work in the trades so I see this a lot. Young guys (some older) and they didn't even finish HS. Unless you are retarded, all you have to do is attend, so it shows a total lack of effort because you know what kind of future you are setting yourself up for. From there they did nothing. They could go to a college/trade school and make up for the dropping out of HS, but most don't. They usually developed habbits, some as simple as smoking, but most have others, either drinking or drugs. This lead to other bad decisions such as knocking up some sloot. A lot of them work, but instead of really trying to improve themselves they just go for jobs that pay good at the moment, or one that is just easy. Overall, they choose to be dumb. Those are the one's that actually work. Then there are the one's who don't work, at least not in a traditional sense. They just run a hustle. The learn to manipulate anything so they can get what they need to get by. Those are the types that it should be legal to shoot on sight.

That's a good reminder.

I don't believe in ethical absolutes, I believe what the author is proposing is a good guideline, but it will need to be modified based on context.

After reading OP, glanced over at his rep bar, expecting red. Left disappointed.

I do agree in principle that it would be nice if there was a max income that people could make, anything over and they would have to use it to help their fellow man. But I think that number is around 1 million per year. Just lol @ 100k being over the max income, you can't even buy a house in a nice area where I live with that income.

Its a nice idea in theory but would never work in practice.

With everyone knowing that their own money will automatically be deposited into a charity account after the 100k mark would drain motivation.

Raw Capitalism fuels people to invent, innovate, improve things and essentialy create more value for the world. Placing a cap on the earnings would dull the flame and ultimately slow down the progress of Mankind.

Capitalism works and this is a Kill or be killed world whether you like it or not.

its mind numbing how dumb marxists are, and thats exactly what the article and op advocate.

you completely ignore human nature. with out the allure of extra wealth these dumb ****s wouldnt have youtube to post their idiotic videos. or even the fuking internet to begin with. You wouldnt habr anything that requires someone putting in extra effort to create. you have north korea. how hard is that to understand? You have Soviet Russia, you have Maos China. You have hundreds of millions dead because the only way you can force what you are suggesting is through massive government power.

Only jealous and intelligence deficient retards believe this ****.

So please tell me whats more "moral". Someone EARNING extra wealth due to the value they brought to the world OR having government FORCEFULLY take someone elses wealth to give to you? Please stfu with your virtue signaling because it is people like you are the most morally corrupt

It's ironic is because the sheer will of man to want to have more which is what created our society of abundance.

Ironic that hippies are always going after wealth creators instead of wealth creating.

Quite frankly it's my fuking money. What obligation do I, or anyone, have to anyone else srs. I don't even know how some of you people wake up each day with all this caring, I have enough people to care about, and it's definitely not the poor people in my local ghetto.

Like... I just truly don't have time to give a ****, and If could stuff millions of dollars under my mattress, I earned it so it's mine to stuff there.

Lastly, wealth creates more wealth, it's proven time and time again when poor people get cash windfalls they spend it on excess luxury they shouldn't even have in the first place.

The rich simply do it better- which is why they're rich.

I have to repeat this, every few posts...

Noone is proposing legislation, this is about voluntary charity after a wealth threshold.

I think people are misinterpreting the article due to the use of language.

Terms like 'allow' 'obligation' seem to be automatically interpreted as legislation proposals.

He's using the terms in a deotological ethics fashion, which doesn't necessarily mean obligation by force, it means obligation by imperative.

This. Analyze a poor persons spending habits for a week and you know why they poor.

Legit lold. I dont give a fuk. I got out with the same cards they were delt. Lick my sweaty saddle bruised balls.
I can't respect this type of attitude, the hood isn't owed chit by you, they're just pissed they couldn't do it so they try to bring you down.

It's no different than when people insult blacks saying they're uncle toms, simply because they reject ghetto/gang culture. Absolutely infuriating to see imo.

You ever feel like wealth acquisition/retention is a just a form of natural selection that would help weed out the unfit if left to run its course? I do. Its just the modern day equivalent of what we've been competing for this whole time. Do some get lucky and get born into wealth and excess? Certainly so..but their predecessors did the work so that those that followed them could prosper..it's kinda the point of us as humans isn't it? Wealth is like any other metric..there are better looking, taller, more physically capable blood lines..those are by products of the breeding practices, resources and choices of our ancestors. Often times the same could be said for opportunity and wealth of the modern person. Just as your life is a cumulative result of your choices, experiences and actions to this point..so was the hand you were dealt..a result of the cumulative choices by your family tree if you will.

You can't compare wealth from a global perspective, it has to be applied to the environment and context in which you reside.

There are certainly exceptions to the rule, (and we'll use a first world country for this example) but how often do you come across someone who's 1. truly intelligent 2. Exercised prudent decision making 3. Made an attempt to better themselves 4. Put themselves in an environment to succeed, including surrounding themselves with the right people. 5. Gave a true conscious effort at all of the above +motivation/effort....AND DID NOT MANAGE TO RESCUE THEIR LIVES FROM THE GRIPS OF POVERTY? You don't see it because the cream will still rise to the top.

Realistically speaking, do we all have the same opportunity to become amazingly wealthy and successful by the metrics you guys are going to use? No we don't..however we all have a chance to escape the need for support from those who did generate wealth. Its going to be harder for some..they're going to have a deeper hole to climb out of. Its also going to he harder for some of us to acquire an attractive mate, become a professional athlete or have tall offspring...its all the same chit, a result of ongoing decision making and action. Wealth and money are just romanticized because it's a tangible representation of successful genetics, physical prowess and intelligence (social, emotional, actual smarts) and those who lack any or all of the above feel like they deserve a piece of the pie.
