Black miscers, would this offend you? (No race bait) (srs thread) (news story)

This is in Australia, Brisbane if geographical location matters.
- A new cafe opened up in my city called "Master toms" and on the menu they had a burger called the Uncle Tom.
- People complained that it was racist and the burger was pulled
- The people complaining were mostly white
- Cafe forced to apologise
- No one has actually asked black bros how they feel about it

Always thought "Uncle Tom" was an American thing not Australian

Not really, but I'm not expecting Aussies to get the connotation. If it happened in the states I wouldn't be offended but just dumbfounded at that oversight undertaken by the people who opened the burger joint.

It's a burger......It's not that serious.

If I saw it on the menu I would laugh and say wtf lol, but then I would order it because it's jokes and It sounds like it would be good.

lol the restaurant name is Master Tom's so nah. It might be different if the restaurant name was Uncle Tom's Cabin.

I didn't say Iwas offended, but if in the room where we're thinking of our marketing strategy, logos, what we're gunna call ****, I would avoid that name so as not to trigger anyone, how is that hard to understand?

the African American population is probably pretty close to 0 here. Minorities are mostly Aboriginals, Polynesian and arab.

75% of the population is White British/Irish
goes up to 92% white if you include all european demographics like Italians, Germans etc.

"Uncle Tom" is not a racial slur, but is racially related. It's an identity slur that we blacks use among ourselves to identify self-hatred, aka a ****** or sellout. Blacks who don't culturally identify themselves as black, and typically suck up to other people (especially white people).

This news story is designed for two purposes.

1) To further enrage conservatives/right wingers

2) To give the restaurant some publicity.

It's a complete non-event, perhaps even a fabrication (guy paid to pretend to be offended).
