This. I've worked at Petco for 6 years and everyone ive ever seen sell a rat goes over the risks and the waiver.

thats enough misc for today..

sad story looks like a nice kid

last time i was in petco there was 1 employee it seemed, black girl, she was pretty hot, i was there with my dad and brother (cringe) buying i forget what, anyways i went to check out the animals (including the rats) and she just so happened to slowly like check on stuff on the shelves right next to me. we started talking and i could easily have gotten a good date or something but the store was like 2.5 hours from my house and it was too awkward with my fam there. it may have been petsmart whats the fking difference right.

rats are pretty cool .. id go for a cat or dog but ... i found this article and people in the comments seem to love them.http://discovermagazine.com/2006/dec/20-things-rats

i think the pet place is responsible. even if they write it in some paperwork that nobody reads, they should have their people explicitly state there is a chance you can get sick from a bite and instruct the owner, if they are sold as pets and not as food for other animals, and explain that the animals are not all tested.

also strong fail at the doctor they went to see.

as far as obscure pets go, i'd go for some ferrets. i saw a few in a store an the damn things just wrestled all day, it was pretty cool. but i dont really think animals like this should be raised in captivity, sure they are safe and bond, but they should be in the wild.

They probably had weak lawyers representing them. A good lawyer in NY would have nearly bankrupt Petco.

hey bosnian rambo i see you assert alphaness with dogs you know what you could do is go to a dog shelter, where there are tons of pitts in there, and i dont know if you know this but a lot of them have real attitude towards guys they bark and bark, not sure if its because they are scared and trying to put on a tough face or what, but who cares anyways right, you can adopt the dog, then take it back home and fight it to the death, that will prove your alphaness, but you have to go bare hands

Who the **** buys a rat for a pet. There are companies whose sole purpose is to make products to kill them and then someone wants one for a damn pet.

Moral of the story dont buy fuking rats
Exactly.

99% of rats we sell at petco are sold as "feeders" aka for snake food.

Itd be financially retarded to test each rat. Some stores can go through 20-30 rats a week

I ****ing face palm when someone asks to "hold a rat" mfer they are mass bred essentially to be feeders.
While great pets and super smart, there are always risks. Parents should have done their research before buying a pet

No, they are not all bred to be feeders. They breed "fancy rats", which are bred for being pets. They are literally two different breeds of rats. Fancy rats are the ones that are sold as pets in stores, and they are usually more expensive as a result of the breeder vaccinating and keeping more strict breeding habits in order to keep diseases out.

I worked at petco, and they make you sign a waiver every time you purchase one. I would usually buy 3 a week, and put them in freezer ziploc bags, and back over them in my car.

A young bull and an old bull were standing atop a hill looking at a bunch of heifers in a field below.

The young bull says "Let's run down this hill and fuk one of those heifers."

The old bull replies "No. Let's walk down there, and fuk them all."

Actually...Pet rats (not sewer rats from outside) are very safe and good pets to have. Clean, no smell, no ****ting all over your house, no shedding.

We have had 3 for our kids and they're awesome. This was just some freak thing. Very sad though.

Whats wrong with buying a rat for a pet, if you bought a puppy from petco and it had rabies would it not be the companies fault? If you purchased food for your kid from a restaurant that was infested with bacteria and the kid died, would it be the parents fault or the restaurants, how is this any different? Its sad af. The kid had pet rats before the one that killed him. Look at some of the pictures from the story and you'll see some images. He looks so happy with his rats

Although I do agree with your reverse lottery statement. They should be trying to prosecute the store to prevent it from happening to other children not just trying to get rich off of the tragedy.

Edit: Just read the rest of the story, said the parents were well informed of the risks and bought the rat anyway. My bad
