I can't do sales, it's just not for me. I mean, I have the potential and a good base to build off to do well in sales, but the salesman lifestyle isn't for me.

I could get into sales at my current company (they actually want me to) and make six figures plus, but I don't like the idea of pretty much being on call, staying tethered to my phone, not being able to vacation for extended periods, and having to live near my potential customer base indefinitely.

Instead I'm pursuing a degree that'll land me 65-95K annually, but it will allow me the freedom to travel the world like I want, without having to worry responding to customer's inquiries and concerns. I'll have many options to move internationally if I were to choose to do so, which is a direction I might go.

I currently do inside sales and one of the outside sales people I support got sick and had to check into the hospital. Well, just so happens that they were working on obtaining two new accounts, so they called me from the hospital to inform me what was going on and if I could assist. I wish I hadn't taken the call. I swear it sounded like death was knocking on his door. It was so saddening to have to hear him in that condition. He had no recovery time either. Had to jump right back into work.

Also can you specify how to reinvest cash from your presepctive in assests (beside buying home/car)

A tip; never say youll reach this at that age..it will place an emotional pressure/anxiety wheither you felt it or not.
Also never cut promises about youll do this or that, i know you have good deeds just...dont overwhelm your self with thoughts

Would a consultant mainly working in tech be able to transition into software sales down the line? Or is the career line of a consultant, say 5 years in, more lucrative than one in sales?

Being completely serious, yes I think so. I talk to engineers pretty often at my company, they know the product better than I do and are very intelligent people. Sometimes I wonder why they don't just transition into sales, I think sometimes they assume they can't do it but if they knew the reality, they may even better than I am at it.

What you need to be successful is to understand your industry and product. They have that knowledge so hell yeah, I don't see why not.
A lot of engineers aren't charming/charismatic enough to be salesman. My friend is doing what you do and making similar money, he's doing the best financially out of any of his engineer friends even though he had the lowest grades. But the other guys who are extremely intelligent about the subject matter and have higher technical skills aren't the best at instantly befriending strangers and would probably fail in sales. Funny how much of a difference people skills can make.

So OP is a top performing salesman. While I agree he is obviously successful it doesn't really seem that easy to replicate his success as it would to be an engineer and work your way to ~100k. There's definitely tons of barriers to entry to getting that level of income in sales.

.Keep in mind at least 50% of the sales depts at those companies have under 5-10 years experience. 250k isnt top 20% among the regional field reps. At many places that is simply the total comp for hitting quota and keeping your job. A huge portion of the sales force doesn't even close deals or work beyond bottom of the barrel region/accounts. The real difficulty lies in getting past that stage (doing well without anything decent given to you)

Certainly it's top percentile for the under 30 crowd though
