Glad your ok. Sucks about how damaged the bike is.

Fuk man I hate seeing stuff like this as a rider, you have to have strong delusional tendencies to ride a street bike imo. Probably gunna sell the road bike and stick to dirt, much safer.

Yeah I could get hit by a bus walking to work and yadda yadda yadda but when you consider common things being common....it is really just a matter of time

It sure makes you think about what is important in your life.

I don't ride but I'll never forget getting the call while I was at college that my brother was being flighted to Vanderbilt after an accident. Walking into the hospital not knowing what I was going to see. Don't forget how you feel right now and what's important to you!!

Few questions from a white ex-rider (I too almost got wrecked and gave it up after):

1) Do you do the finger wave to fellow bikers on the highway?

2) Why do black guys tend to ride crotch rockets?

Glad you're safe bud. Enjoy the percoccet.
Union Strong. Workers are stronger together.
The GOP is a criminal organization who despises the middle class and working poor. Name one policy they have pushed for that increased worker pay, union strength, or worker influence in a corporation.

You mean the left hand down thing? Yeah, I do. If I'm unable to, I'll give them a head nod, but 99% of the time, we both extend it out to one another in passing.

For now it has. I'd be fine with never owning another one, as I've had 4 good years with this one, but if I do, it's going to be a loooooooong while from now. No rush whatsoever.

Yesterday afternoon I decided to take a bike ride. The weather was high 60's, I had finished all the stuff I needed to do at the house, so I just wanted to get out for a few hours and maybe grab a bite and ride the streets. I wasn't feeling the highway when I initially started, so I just took the back roads to get on the Expressway and just rolled that all the way down. That was about the extent of the riding I wanted to do, so I looked to see if GNC was open so I could make a purchase and the one that was on the Expressway was closed, so I was like, "Fukc it, let me try another one and then I'll grab some food and head to the house."

I get on the highway, I'm doing my normal riding and everything is kosher. I had a 20 minute ride, knew my lanes I needed to be in were the middle and left, so I stayed far left, just because people kept jumping from right to middle, middle to left....I didn't want to be around all that flip flopping so to speak. I'm entering the SE part of town, maybe 10 minutes from my destination and as I'm going into my curve, I hit a rock or a bump in the road(not sure which), but whatever I hit, it got my front tire and pushed me left. I wasn't speeding, going about 63/64 and as I'm being pushed left, I'm trying to correct it as best I can to regain control, but it was too late. I was thrown over the handlebars, rolled twice, my bike flipped and where I landed.....I knew I was thrown a ways because my bike was nowhere near me when I was finally given the chance to look up.

My legs actually got the worst of it. Lots of scrapes, bruising that's out of this world and my left hip hurts like a motherfukcer. I initially thought my left was broken because I couldn't move it. I just yelled in pain.

The good thing about it is, several people stopped and helped. I think I counted 6 people, one of those included a biker that was going the opposite way, got off and came back to my side of the highway to help out. They all kept asking me questions like, "What day is it?", "How old are you?", "What city are you in?" to make sure I was aware, alert and still able to function properly for the most part. No one would allow me to get up. Natural instincts make you want to get up, but one lady just put her hand over my chest and told me to stay there. The first lady tried to call my wife, but her phone went to VM. I had someone else call my mother, but she was tending to my grandmother when the call came, so she wouldn't have been able to answer. The biker who came back, he called my best friend and he in turn called my wife. I had someone call my sister-in-law as well because no one was answering. From what the biker told my best friend, they pulled me from the cables that divide the highways. I don't remember that. The only thing I remember last was being thrown over, flipping twice and being on my back yelling. Maybe I blacked out for a moment or two, not sure, that's what my boy told me he did.

I asked everyone there if I could get their info so when I get better, send them a card, maybe meet up with them and give them a hug....something. No one had to stop and help. They did that out of the kindness of their hearts and I'm very appreciative for that. I have a few numbers from the people who tried to call my family when it happened, so I will be making some calls by the end of the week.

I have no idea how this happened, but I didn't break anything. As I said, my legs took the worst beating. I'm on crutches, got some pain meds and won't be able to do any field work for the next 2 weeks until the soreness goes away. I've also cried a lot since yesterday. Being that close to death...unreal. I'm unsure if I'll ride again, but as it stands right now, no....don't want another bike. Maybe that'll change down the line, but this has scared me pretty bad.

Everyone was telling me that I'm incredibly smart for riding with gear. Helmet was on, gloves were on, my jacket was on and zipped. So a lot of the head trauma I could have had, in addition to the skin that would've been torn off my body, I gotta give that all to the gear. I know some people don't like it, think it's not for them, but you never know....you never fukcing know. I've been riding for the last 4 years and I've never dropped my bike. Don't stunt, don't get all crazy with the speeds....just a normal rider and looked what happened. GEAR.....GEAR.....GEAR.....GEAR......GEAR. I'll never ride without that sh**.

I hate Motorcycles.. Anyone that rides them, usually rides recklessly , or just does 80 miles per hour from one light to the nest.. My nephew got in to a bad motorcycle accident and 2 of my friends got killed and another is in a wheel chair.. Not many ,escape with their lives, consider this your warning young man.. But,the hard headed never learn..

I wouldn't say that....the recklessly part. I've never been that way. I'm not in a rush to go anywhere and I damn sure wouldn't be rushing if I was on my bike. The dangers are just too great when you're doing that. I drive the limit, maybe a bit over, but that's most of us. We'll sometimes be 5 or 6 over, but nothing too great. I was 3 to 4mph over, taking a regular curve and this happened.

I do feel lucky, grateful and will be taking something from this experience.
