But holy ****, I have never realized how utterly joyless, depressing, soul sucking, pretentious, rock music really is. Specifically, classic rock music.

Been working at a new company for about a year and a half now, and they literally play classic rock 90% of the time, so I have a good amount of listening/observation.

In that time, I have concluded that this is the reason why white people are so ****ing depressed/emo/shooting up school/resort to drugs, despite the fact that they come from first world countries.

They listen to this joyless, rhythm-less, beat-less, garbage. Everything from Led Zepplin, Queen, Pink Floyd, Eagles, Fleetwood Mack, Bruce Springsteen, Ozzie Osborne, even when these artists are making supposedly "happy" music, it comes off soul-suckingly depressing, because you know deep down these artists were all sad, pathetic, drug addicted fiends that had to depend on substances to "motivate" themselves to be happy.

An entire generation being raised on this kind of music truly does a number on the psyche.

I honestly don't mean this to be a race thing, but an Asian, I GET why western music genres like EDM, Rap, Hip Hop, Pop, Country (yes, even that), are extremely popular.

They all have something in common: no matter the lyrical content, the MUSIC itself is joyful. This means it makes you want to dance, boogie, bop your head, move your feet in a JOYFUL manner. It has rhythm and soul, it inspires you to be happy through SOUND (NOT LYRIC).

When I'm working, no matter how chitty of a mood I'm in, if, say a Backstreet Boy song, a Chris Brown song, a Chainsmoker Song, these music can lift me up and make me want to dance, send me into a different zone completely.

But with rock music, it somehow just further enhances the chitty mood, or sends you spiraling down to even deeper depression.

I honestly have a few reasons as to why this is so, but I won't get into that yet.

--people who listen to this chit tend to be emos, angsty teens, druggies, potential school shooters, or old white people who have no soul and can't dance
--this isn't surprising, considering 99% of rock artists themselves are perpetually angry/suicidal/moody/druggies themselves/hate the world so it reflects in their music
--rock music is inherently rhythm-less, therefore it does not invoke joy/dancing
--rock music, in its simplest form, is just rthymless, joyless, technical sound that has no soul or passion.

A lot of classic rock sucks I'll give you that, but don't talk chit about Pink Floyd or the Eagles. Music doesn't have to be upbeat and happy to be good. There's more soul in one Pink Floyd song than in most other artists entire discography. And just lol at saying country is less depressing than classic rock. If the songs aren't about his truck or getting drunk they're about some sloot he lost or struggling in life.

This is what I feel rock music and rock musicians are incapable of doing through their music. Like I said, it probably has to do with the fact that the vast majority of rock musicians are depressed, cynical, pessimistic losers.

Even though I'm a 34 year old father and husband, I'll gladly listen to happy radio music anyday of the fkn week over chit like Queen and Ozzy.

Even my generation when we were younger, I noticed no kids back in the 90s would even play rock music at a house party. It was always something that had beat, that made people want to dance, make the sloots want to grind up on you. It was either dance music or hip hop. Maybe it's a cities people thing.
