Glad you're safe. I've had so many close calls but never any big accidents on bike, going into corner bit faster and having some **** there to make me lowside and slide of a cliff or into it is one of my top worries :| but still keep on riding, it's a drug and gear gear gear is the right way to go about it at all times.

Taking my R6 for a 2 hour highway ride tomorrow across state lines. I wouldn't let a crash stop me from riding, love it way too much

I didn't read the whole thread, but hopefully you're not letting this stop you from riding if you really enjoy it

Glad you're okay man. I also had a near death experience on the road (in my small truck) this year. I'm going 70 mph on the highway, traveling to my business on the normal everyday hour drive I make every morning. A cement truck traveling from his work site on a gravel road attempted to cross the highway. He runs his stop sign ( just straight coasted thru it, didn't even brake) causing me to t-bone him in the very back-side where the cement funnel is, I maybe had a second to apply the brakes and try to veer to the right before impact. After impact I went airborne and flipped, broke 4 ribs, broken collarbone, torn rotator cuff. My steering wheel looked like a pretzel, no airbags, this was my old ford ranger that I used as a commuter backup (had it since I was 16). All the witnesses were shocked when I crawled out of the top window (passenger window). Hit my head on the windshield (huge spider shattered mark) but somehow not even a bump on my head. Needless to say I hired an excellent lawyer against the concrete company.

You're probably going to keep re-experiencing it for the next month, might even have sharp pain again when you do. If it lasts much longer than that you have some form of ptsd, but it most likely won't. On the bright side it's a very motivating event when you make it out w/out too much damage, you'll probably be thinking of positive changes you're going to make, things you need to do etc.

Good to hear you're okay. I used to have a bike too but traffic has just gotten too sketchy in atl. I sold it and won't ever get another. I did have a buddy I worked with get killed on his when some azzhole hit him head on because he was texting and driving.

Damn, OP - glad that you came out of this accident ok and not severely fukked up. That's probably the reason why I'll never get a bike and it's cuz of something being in the middle of the road as you're driving fast, even at the posted speed limit. Being an animal dude, if I were to go 55 m/p/h and then all of a sudden there was a small animal directly in my path, I'd probably swerve to not kill it, thus causing me to crash and possibly burn or go off the cliff.

No, I would say it has been a permanent change. His excuse at the time was that wearing a helmet increased the chance of living, but being a quadriplegic. He has ongoing pain management/addiction issues. Lost most of his teeth too due to the trauma. Hasn't really managed to support himself independently since; could be due to TBI.

Happy to hear you are good Black Jesus. People here in Arizona call them donor cycles and unfortunately vehicles don't see motorcycles and it usually ends badly when there is an accident. I ride dirt bikes and quads but never will ride on the street, I am an insurance agent and see a bunch of chit. Look into life insurance (not through work) if you continue to ride on the street. love you

I rode almost everyday for 7 years without incident. Crashed one night into the back of a car and never rode again. Used all my 9 lives and came out with just bad bruising. Still get the urge all the time, but its not worth it.

I dont know how you can get on a bike without full gear. I see so many people riding bikes and scooters with just a helmet and I cringe every time

I don't know, man. Highway crashes are usually caused by excess speed, and even in this case, there isn't a driver who caused OP to go down. Riding deaths I read about seem to be a pretty even mix of excess speed on highway, and riders getting t-boned on streets. Personally, I'd much rather ride on the highway, given the option. You could be going 25mph...if you get t-boned, you're ****ed.

It's really all about situational awareness gained through experience. That's what lets a rider acknowledge potential dangers and how to maneuver out of them.

In the UK at least, riding on the motorway is statistically much safer than city environments according to what I read.

I would say the 90% stat sounds plausible, but not as an error. Maybe as "avoidable by the rider" even if it wasn't his fault. But then again that just boils down to the same thing I guess.

Yeah cross traffic is much more dangerous than highway merging. You have to be aware anytime you see a car that could possibly pull out or turn in front of you. In heavy traffic stay glued to the car in front of you. In light traffic just go slow and be alert.

Avoiding road obstacles on the highway isn't a problem unless you are following too closely.

as for gear: rather sweat than bleed.

yeah I even wear my leather jacket in my avatar shots.

There is some guy that rides an H2 and wears just a helmet. No sense of that.
