My argument is that there could be plenty more "outliers" if people explore alternative means. It's sad that so many kids are starting life 50-100k or more in the hole. With resources such as edx, udemy, Lynda, etc. a motivated individual could learn enough to gain entry level knowledge to almost anything.

Currently employed and attending school part-time.

Within my organization (although a rather small company) those who get the largest salary are generally college educated as they bring the proper skill-set into keeping the company afloat. These people however, only make the amount of money that their degree is "worth".

Above that glass ceiling however are the controlling interests. They make much larger amounts of money and often times are far less educated. I do not believe education is the only means to success but it highly increases chances of outsiders entering/succeeding within an industry as it equips them with the proper skills. IMO passion and an innovative vision pave the way to ultimate success, while education helps understanding/skill development.

To expand on this, I'm doing the same thing letting my company pay for my MS part time. All of the executives have a PhD though in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, so if I wanted to climb all the way to the top, I'd need yet another degree.

so? median doesnt mean average. thats just the in-between value of the incomes of the samples of people.

Average income is similar in the US (GDP/number of workers). But wealth inequality is so bad here, the median is the only accurate measurement.

It's about what you can do to say "I want this job".

I feel like say a job turned you down because you didn't have skills XYZ, if you come back with X you may still not get hired, but if you come back again, this time with X and Y most places will say "he wants it, he's persistent, etc," and take you there.

That's my plan anyways, keep coming back 'new and improved' until they have no choice but to take me.

I make about 80k/year, but I've been full-time working for about four years and starting two jobs ago at 30k out of college, bartended on the side for an extra 15k that year. Sucked. Most of these kids work 35-40 hours at most, don't understand that hustling a 60 hour work week now and creating investments with the superfluous cash is the way to generate wealth in their 30's and 40's, they think the only way to get income is from a paycheck. Sad.

i went pretty deep into stats and its easy to make these studies say anything you want with the right manipulation. theres no way this is true i live in socal and i do not make 5-6x more than all the other millennials i know which this study is suggesting.

I am so sick of people bashing on millennials yea there is a segment of whiny betas but there is also a huge chunk of people innovating, taking risks, and becoming successful entrepreneurs. We arent strapped down by the old mentality of work 40hours in a job you hate until you have enough pension to retire by which time you are too old to even enjoy your life.

I honestly think it's because so many millennials are still in school or just getting out so they obviously aren't going to have a very high income.

But everything that comes out of their mouth is blaming millennials for having to deal with the burdens they put on our econmy
