reasons like this why univ/college is bullchit. if u dont have any connections. a degree aint gonna matter to jack chit compared to a high school graduate whos got connections and gets paid way more than some guy like u.

Cant just walk into an interview and slap a degree on their desk and say "hire me" anymore. People need to understand that this isnt 1999 anymore. As soon as the internet became the main source of job listings, Your chances went down substantially. The job listing you see online has likely been seen by 200 other people already. Youre just another needle in the haystack. Degrees mean jack**** now, Its all about who you know and getting in through that back door and avoiding the whole clusterfuk that is an online job listing.
My advice is start from the bottom and work your way up if you dont have any connections. College grads need to get out of their head that they are too good to work for a certain wage or a certain job. This is why so many of them are jobless for a year or 2. Youre not chit and employers know that, Your piece of paper means nothing to them. EXPERIENCE has taken the lead role. If you want to get into the financing, start as a bank teller. Do good at that for a bit then move on, Get a good reference or 2 out of that, Then get into a entry level finance level job at that bank, Do good at that, Then move onto a higher end finance company and start from the bottom there and move up the ladder. Once you start getting experience, It becomes easier to find good jobs. Stop trying to start at the top fresh out of college, Youre going to disappoint yourself.

4 years playing golf every day would land you a better job than most degrees, and i know this for a fact and i can give an example.
My cousin had a chitty job, but he played a lot of golf and even taught kids, he gets speaking to some guy in the oil industry who plays golf and jokes "Give me a job mane", the guy says "Go and do this course it will cost you $2k, it will take you a couple of weeks "(something to do with underwater submresibles or some chit) and then said "when you get it call me and i'll hook you up."
6 months later he is making stupid money.

I wouldn't recommend volunteering for experience, I have around 5 years of volunteer experience, and it didn't teach me jack ****, nor does it impress any anyone (at least in my experience, but who knows it may work for some people). I know the frustration you're going through.
Keep it up, OP. and keep an eye on Craigslist. There is a lot of stuff there that may get your foot in the door, and ignore Monster...it's infected with job agencies.

I went to an elite undergrad / elite law school, went to maybe 9 call-back interviews, sent 200+ cover letters over a period of 3 months before I finally landed a job. It's ****ing hard out there, it's not just you.

Not sure why so many in this thread are insulting OP or others for being frustrated. Doesn't sound like OP just expects someone to give him a job, hence why he keeps applying and searching. Applying/searching to jobs is pretty much a job itself, so many of these companies have so many different forms to fill out before you can even apply, it's frustrating when you don't even hear back.
I've been there OP, went to school, did well, and it took me 5 months of non-stop applying to find a job. It sucks because so much of it can just come down to how much the interviewer likes you. I had one company tell me I was down to the final 3 candidates, and the final part of the last interview was basically a tour of the facility given by the guy who would be working with me each day. So I basically knew I had to get along with this guy because why would he want to hire someone, spend 8-5 everyday with them and then not get along? Spent the whole tour asking him questions to find out what he was into, and we had nothing in common. He didn't like sports, didn't come from a business background, basically didn't watch TV. Dude worked at a funeral place and got the job cause his mom worked for the company. I knew I had no chance.
After going 5 months with no job, I decided to use it to my advantage. When I had the phone interview for the job I currently have, I basically told them "I've spent the last 5 months hearing that I'm not good enough, have no experience, etc, and I have a chip on my shoulder and want to prove all those companies that they passed up on a great candidate." The recruiter told me she was blown away, and even though the position wanted someone with 3 years of experience, she was recommending me to the manager. At that point it was a done-deal and my in-person interview was basically just introducing me to everyone and that's it.

I applied for jobs 3 months before I graduated and didn't secure a job until 2 months after graduation
Had no internships and connections either
Don't give up brahs, in the mean time focus on adding skills that is useful in your field but didn't learn in class

The company that ghosted me back in March just called me and asked me to fly down to Houston for an interview at the end of May. Yesterday another company that I phone interviewed with said they want to fly me to their office in San Francisco for an on-site interview as well. I'm going to try and schedule both interviews within 2 days or so of one another so that I'm still in "interview mode" mentally.
Trying hard to not get my hopes up boys. Like I said in a previous post in this thread, last year I was flown down, wine'd and dine'd, and still didn't get the job. Still - having two opportunities definitely increases my chances.

For now, take each rejection as a valuable learning experience. The more interviews you go too, the more you'll be able to anticipate what they will ask and how to respond. You will find a job, and become a lot smarter for the effort.

The problem is you're focusing on the things in life that don't really matter. When I was a kid I had hopes and dreams. We all did. But over time, the daily grind gets in the way and you miss the things that really matter, even though they are right in front of you, staring you in the face. I think the next time you should ask yourself "Am I on the right track here?". I don't mean to be rude but people like you I really pity. So maybe you could use the few brain cells you have and take advantage of the knowledge I have given you now. Good luck.

Don't feel too bad, OP. Sometimes companies have a person in mind, but they are required to interview a certain number of people before they can make the decision. There may have already been a shoo-in for the job and you just got hosed. I had a pretty good interview a few years ago with GE, only to find out after the fact through a friend who worked there that they already had somebody lined up for the job anyway. Just keep hustlin and you'll be fine.
