Trying to watch Twin Peaks....
Its got to be the most ridiculously melodramatic show I've seen in a very long time.
Not sure I can continue.

I tried and failed too, bro. I think that I am gonna' attempt it again. I'm not really into David Lynch though. Some of his concepts are cool, but they can be far too abstract and sometimes incomprehensible. I don't think that he is a good storyteller. Try American Gothic. That was a good one from that era. Wayward Pines was influenced by Twin Peaks as well.

If you can't figure that one out, I mean come on.
This type of thing is from the original true hipsters before the fake group of hipsters existed. The whole show is an ironic take on drams, murder shows, etc. That is until the extremely weirdness occurs.

I tried rewatching and I have gotten past this type of cynical stuff.
In the first episode the director, who I think is a nut, purposely had these long still shots of people crying. He obviously thinks it's funny that people are breaking down crying because someone got murdered. When I was younger, I found the show to be hilarious, but now that I know what it's like to be in a sh!tty situation, it's not so funny.
Anyway, I used to get a giant bottle of port, get together with friends, get drunk, and laugh my ass off at the weirdness. The scenes with the midget, holy sh!t, but that was then.

I plan on watching this show at some point, due to it's connections with Deadly Premonition and the weirdness of it all drawing me in. But I can understand why someone wouldn't take well to it. DP wasn't so well received either until some key LPers featured in on their channel and everyone stopped taking it so seriously.

i love the show, but I can understand why others might not.
for me, the weird/unique characters, the set design, music, and their risk taking (shot wise, lighting, the supernatural stuff) makes it great. when you watch it the first time, there's room for speculation and when you watch it again, you start to notice a bunch of things

Yeah you gotta be in the mood for that show plus it's that 80' mentality in that show that makes it awkward for many fresh viewers

I love david lynch stuff but twin peaks the show is pretty tough to sit through in 2017. The movie is a bit more digestable and i think the new season will be less dated.

An immature person has an experience like that and they find it funny. For instance, in Twin Peaks there's the "log lady" and she carries a log like it's a baby. That seems funny, until you actually meet someone like that and realize, her baby probably died, or she killed it, or she thinks she did, and so on. Then, it's not so funny that a lady got so heart broken, she went crazy.
The mature person sees it's human tragedy.
Where I grew up, there was a woman who walked around in a bridal gown daily. She was going to get married and the guy never showed up, she went crazy, and wore the gown henceforth. My family would laugh when they saw her, but even as a kid I knew it was horrible.
Twin Peaks is collection of that kind of stuff. But, instead of having weird people with rational explanations, if does the immature people thing of having supernatural ones. There's so many weird and nasty people in town because of a dark force in the woods. That's the old primitive way of explaining events and natural occurrences via the supernatural.
I don't like Lynch anymore because all of his movies have that kind of theme.
