New way to deal with the homeless

Misc approved way is to buy them food. Fair enough but a bit of a hassle as I then have to go and find the food even if it's a block away.
Better answer, when they ask for cash, here is your samsbolton approved response: tell them you will give them 50 quid/dollars IF they can tell you just one thing they have done so far that day to improve their situation. E.g., have they tried not drinking or shooting up, have they tried reading a self help book, have they made any effort to look for work perhaps through a homeless charity etc etc.
I have done this a few times now and not had to pay, but hopefully it makes them take a look at themselves, take responsibility for their own actions, and stop leaching off hard working chaps like myself

You really don't understand anything about the homeless then. Just say "no" and don't waste anybodies time with stupid games.

90% of homeless don't want to improve their lives. They are content with what they have, but human nature forces them to survive. So they beg for money to eat. But that is after they use that money to get high or drunk since addiction is greater than the need for survival.

So even if you gave them everything. They would still mess it up and use up all their resources and be back on the streets. It's within their nature to mess up. Your stupid mind game isn't going to motivate them all of a sudden. They have been homeless longer than you have been "Clever".

Granted. Some on the streets are not like that and genuinely in a bad spot. They had everything, a home, family and wife. But something happened and they lost it all. Now they have nothing to rely on and can't get back up. So they stay at the bottom, with no motivation to climb back out.
"Don't be envious when the grass is greener on the other side because you don't know how much crap it took to fertilize that ground.

Are you ready? "Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins. (John 8:24).

Plenty of them aren't even homeless. I've seen several stories where someone is out panhandling during the day, then goes and gets in a Lexus to drive home to their 3000 square ft house.

I just tell them "sorry man, I don't have anything"

but never break stride walking. If you stop then they are going to give you their long sob story.

Never make eye contact and never break stride.

That's 1% I live in a city with a homeless problem and I show up to work early and see many sleeping on benches and door stoops when it's 15 degrees out.

Great, well the 1% are ruining it for the rest, because now I don't trust a single one of 'em.

Yeah I worked downtown STL for too long to fall for this chit or even care about them.

brb same guy every day asks you for a quarter then you seem him go to subway and pull out a stack of cash
brb same people outside of sporting events every game begging for cash

Homelessness is bad but I've been ruined by the bad apples and couldn't care less anymore.

Did you refer to yourself as 3rd person, then give some bullchit holier than thou interrogation technique to deem if they are worthy of your chitty money?

Strong wtf. Idk what kind of homeless you have around there, but the massive majority of ones around here have mental problems and or massive drug addictions.

Spare everyone your pretentious speech you god damn pussy.

We all know why 99% of them are homeless, either give them some money and fuk off or don't.

Homelessness is a CHOICE, people dont understand this.

There is public services out there to house these people in every major city throughout USA, they dont take it. They can **** off. It's a mental disorder.

If I have cash on me, under 10$ ill give them a few bucks. F it. Ya some are scamming, but I can't be bothered to try and figure that out and the ones who ACTUALLY need it, who knows, that may make their day. I don't know their situation and I am not exactly loaded, but I can help. Ive been down on my luck, NEVER close to "on the streets" but there were times when maybe a strangers generosity would have helped, through actions or words. So whats a couple bucks if I have the cash?

Id much rather do that than "buy" someones coffee in a Starbucks line in hopes of "pay it forward". Ya this homeless person may go get drunk on my money, that is their prerogative, but maybe they also need some nonjudgmental kindness, so whatever.

What happens if they are homeless due to external factors, like mental illness? Or maybe "the system"?

Learned this doing door work. They even have ******** groups where they discuss their take and laugh at the public for handing over cash. Fukin *******s.

Here in Newcastle we have a very good system in place for homeless which I took the time to learn about. Now whenever I'm approached (which seems to be a lot when working the doors) I give the all the points of contact for rehousing/food banks/welfare etc.

The thing I hate the most about the fake homeless is they undermine the people who are truly in need and make most people dubious about giving. Shame.
