Imagine your bloodline was filled with a bunch of mother****ers who had the balls to travel thousands of miles across the ocean on a boat, challenged the largest empire on the planet at the time to fisticuffs with squirrel guns, and later became the economic powerhouse/back to back WORLD WAR champions. Regardless of most political beliefs the majority of us believe in the idea that is America. We can't always articulate what it means..that's like distilling life down to a sentence. It's not arrogance.. we're aware we're not the best at everything. I'd call it irrational self confidence in a flag. Also, Nationalism is beneficial to feeling like you belong. It's like everyone cheering for the same team and by proxy we're all apart of the team. You can walk into any party with an American flag, chant USA!, and someone will get you a beer. Can't beat that feeling.
