The company is started by some graduates from another university who approached me over LinkedIn when I had it.
Also, my dad wants to introduce me to a small Indian logistics company who wants to conduct some overseas operations. I can actually buy equity into this one due to exchange rate with Dentistbrah's money, and repay the debt later with profits after growth.
I know my short term aim is to make a large % from securities on the markets, but like I said, longer term, it's very likely that given the right investment and capital, I will grow into a PE.
But I do appreciate the input, and I do hope I get the chance to explain myself to the MD. Otherwise, I can see why I will get shown the door within 30 seconds lol...

For associate position, you need a minimum of 3 years experience and an MBA from a top school. Ideally 4-5 years exp
I would rather get into a place like McKinsey and have them sponsor me for a $200K MBA at Harvard than try fund it myself

"The firm started as a penny stock trader with $5,000 ($40,000 today) that Madoff earned from working as a lifeguard and sprinkler installer.[36] He further secured a loan of $50,000 from his father-in-law which he also used to set up Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC."

And this is not my point, my point is OP will not succeed at this interview at McKinsey with his current level of knowledge of the private equity industry, which is incompatible with the position that he claims to have (fund manager at a PE firm). He can be a very successful fund manager for that matter, and do incredible deals in his life and become a billionaire, but this McKinsey interview won't convert into a job, that's my point.

Tech is better payed than the other two early career outside London. I used to work at Airbus which was fun though.

Sure you might get the odd top 10% Goldman Analyst wanting to make the move, though I wouldn't see why at this stage when he could earn a lot more at GS!
But what exactly has a finance or economics or accounting major done that will stand out more than me?

I say that because I have been interviewed by McKinsey in the past, and for BCG, and for Bain. Today I work for a major European bank, in investment banking and I worked at one of the largest asset management firms in the world before. My own managed funds are multiples of times higher than your 5k in stocks, yet I would be lieing if I told people that I am a private equity fund manager. I have been offered multiple times to manage people money through deals like you have with your dentistbrah, some of them I took, some I didn't, anyway, this is the thing you should focus on, if you are really good. But this McKinsey interview, even if you manage to do it good on that part, there are still the case interviews. Without any training for that, your chances of going through are barely zero. Not zero, but very close to. Add that to having technically lied on the resume, and well, we can see where it goes.

If OP is basing his "private equity" skills on 10% returns after 1 month, its almost laughable that this shows any competency in the long run. asset management exists because of their ability to manage risk and maintain returns. you could just gamble on mid cap biotechs with data results coming out and easily achieve 20% returns in 1 week, but all it shows is a lack of risk awareness.
mckinseys projects include commercial dd for pe firms, so good luck explaining to the interview why youre a fund manager at a PE firm, but dont know the concept of LBOs. cant imagine posting this on WSO. would be hilarious.

The most important thing to secure a job in Finance isn't an Economics major; it's contacts (100% srs).
Had my dad not lived and worked in Germany for 2 years, I wouldn't have ever got my foot in the door at DB...

Any interview tips from anyone is greatly appreciated, but you're right that if I can talk with someone who currently works at McKinsey that would be the GOAT

Good luck, better prep hard because the interviews are very tough.
I'd be upfront about what you're doing now though because they'll do reference checks before you start and will ask for contact details and someone to speak to at your previous jobs to confirm you're not frauding.
