Was hoping Cube would cut deep but he actually spoke to Bill in a respectful way, he likes the show ffs.
Whoopi is a charcoaled muppet always will be to me, but I think she was spot on with the comment the gentleman refers to above. Was refreshing to see her talking sense actually.

Slavery talk really needs to be put to bed although it is a main driving force why blacks in America are so far behind whites when it comes to the solid, generational, hand-me-down corporations that have been around since americas inception. Had so,e blacks has the ability to educate themselves and invest in such organizations, there's no telling how much farther along blacks would be presently.

If you don't have what you want in this country then move 3000 miles across it to another part, use free Internet, free camping/lodging, free food, free health care, free libraries, free water, etc... and fix it. If someone still can't make reasonable headway... then they just suck at life.

As far as the homies part, there's a difference between someone familiar using it, and then someone who's a square (like Bill Maher). Also a big difference between n***a and n***er. Even n***a can be effected by the context it's used.
I mean it's a simple concept really. If you're a square, and don't know much or anything about black people, don't use it. If you're down, and you have people familiar with you, then perhaps you're good to go. I don't know why some people make this huge deal about it, when they don't go abuse racial slurs for other races for the most part. For some reason, when it comes to black people, people always want to jump case, like we're doing something wrong. This is just the result of our history, all I can say is get used to it or be called a racist.

All of this bullchit is simply making a mole out of an ant hill.
Boggles my mind how much the racism card is used on white people. I've personally found minority groups vs minority groups to be 10x more bigoted than whites.

It's also very hard to fire a bad worker that's black unless another black manager fires them or they will pull out the race card and the company is afraid of getting sued. One black lady where I worked missed 6 months of work in one year and late an hour or more every single day and it took almost 2 years to fire her. She kept showing up late and not doing any work because she felt entitled since she was felt she was the protected class. I also have a black friend who was straight up bragging about being hired because he was black. He only answered one scripted question out of 20 in an interview but the hiring manager happened to be black.Interesting, so after all those years of pulling black folks down your family ended up poor, seems the problem is they did the whole advantage thing wrong, not only was this horse taken to water, they barred other horses from drinking and here lies its youngling in the same place as the barred horses. I don't know man, I don't know. Oh look its the whole lets get out of the topic and make it about the person talking and not the points, where have I seen this before hmmmm(picture Scars face with Simba hanging for dear life). Your opinions count, this is a discussion hence we must discuss, you give me your view I give you my view, but to discredit my "wall of text" off of some technicality that you created to your block your ability to understand amuses me, so it is entirely up to you whether we continue or not.
On your second point, I am intrigued as to how you some how equated life to this equation. We have two different experiences stemmed from our history and race. No one owes me anything nor do I ask for anything, the difference with us is one a product of racist people and the other is a product of the receivers of said racist people. If I am soldier I am taught how to kill, pillage, destroy etc, if you are on the receiving end you are taught how to defend, hide, rebuild and endure. Those with the scars are not the ones who rob people, but those that get robbed, your family has no scars to pass on.
The reason black people are the way they are is due to slavery and post slavery all the way till end of Jim Crow and whenever white people felt like not being openly barbaric to them which would be 80's or so. Now what where black parents teaching their kids about white people or what did a black child learn from encounters with whites? Well say a black man is walking with his wife and pre teen son in the 60s and run into some white teenagers in town. One of the teenagers walks passed and slaps his wife in the ass and looks at the man in the face and says what are you going to do about it boy? Well the man knows he can't do anything and is shamed, the wife looks at her husband unable to protect her from a 14yr old, and the preteen sees a father with no balls who is none deserving of respect, because as boys you know how we feel about mothers.
Anyway I lost track of my thoughts, but this whole racism thing is bigger than you will ever understand, the fact that it has never been talked about as a country or ratified will one day lead in to a serious civil issue. I asked a man who claimed that BLM is a terrorist group whether he had ever viewed, talked about with family or in his inner circle whether the KKK was a terrorist group and he said no, funny aint it.

Bill Cosby gets in a lot of trouble now because of his rape allegations but he was spot on when he mentioned the Victim mentality a lot of blacks have. That is what is holding some black people down, but others say F the victim mentality and rise to the top on their own initiative. No one is holding anyone down anymore.
There are a lot of former oppressed people who immigrate from other countries and thrive over here. Asians that come to the U.S. came from communist countries for example thrive. China, Vietnam, Laos. It's time to move forward and forget about the atrocities from the past.
I hate Entitlement behavior where people feel they deserve better treatment based on their race. If we really want to end racism than Equal treatment is the answer.
Lastly, do you know how how most blacks originally came to the Americas? They were slaves of other black chieftains who had conquered their tribe. Those slaves were then sold to to the Portuguese, Spanish, English traders and brought to America. So black peoples should be angry at both the white and black slave trader. Ironically, without the slave trade, most blacks would not be in the U.S. but in Africa. I'm not going to sugarcoat slavery because it's horrible, but most of Africa is extremely impoverished and even a poor bum here is like a rich man in most of the African continent. So yes, some good actually came out of a horrible institution.

With very limited exceptions I don't think it's a word that should be used today - even by blacks.
The word is so bad because the concept behind it is so evil. Dehumanizing a group is required to enslave them (at an extreme example) and words and concepts like this are required to do that.
Now, initially what the Black community did was smart and showed a lot of grit. "We take your word and strip it of its power by using it ourselves." Great - but that's a 'defensive' action to an 'offensive' one. The offensive action is dead today - nobody can use it for it's original purpose without paying a huge price. Thus without the offensive use the defensive use does nothing more than guarantee that the word and its concept stays alive. It's time to put this one to bed.

All things considered, Maher got through this with minimal blow back.
I found it hard to believe that Ice Cube, the street hardened former drug dealer, turned multi multi millionaire rapper, actor entertainer ect. really gets daggers in his heart that hurts him to the core every time he hears a white person merely say a word, without even anything hateful directed at any person. Give me a fuking break and cut the bullchit.
I will agree with the black people saying he seemed to comfortable using the word, like he just used that chit on live national TV, you know he is saying N this and N that in his private life all the damn time.

IMO, what you described probably makes it harder for the black community to fit in and find peace. Between my mexican friends, asians friends, indian friends, etc... we all bust each others balls on cultural things... but it seems like everyone has to walk on egg shells when it comes to our black friends and specific topics. I actually think that hinders progress because it keeps people from being real with each other. The only other group that immediately comes to mind that has similar tensions is Muslims.
It simply is not healthy. And I don't see much effort in either of those groups to rectify the situation.
It got me thinking while writing this that maybe there is a thing called group projection... thinking a certain way about a group of people, acting in a way that reflects it, and that action causes the very response (counter action) you were afraid of.

If you are black white or whatever and you use the n word you are more than likely lower class.
I literally don't think I've heard that word spoken outside of Xbox live or rap music since middle school.
I don't hang around trashy people though.

I thought both those black people's statements were retarded. "That's our word, we can say it, you can't". If you don't want other people thinking it's ok to say, don't say it yourself. It's common sense. Like if you have kids and you tell them not to curse, but you are constantly cursing up a storm, do you think they are going to listen when you tell them not to curse?
And that black girl... I turned off the video about 5 seconds after she started talking. Anytime somebody tries to talk about being victimized by slavery in this day and age, I stop taking them seriously as a person

I love many parts of black culture, I love rap (both conscious and gangsta hip hop), I love being what some would describe as ghetto/ratchet person, but with the good comes the bad, and there's so many problems I see in the culture that people can NEVER seem to admit to. Black people don't own businesses the same way Indians do when they emigrated here, black on black crime too high, too many black single mothers etc, I could go and on.As another poster ITT already said ... the Jews have never had it easy and yet keep kicking ass. The Japenese were locked in internment camps and keep kicking ass. The Chinese were essentially treated as slaves when they first came in the 1800s and they kick ass, the germans carved out their spots in Texas and parts of the east coast, the latinos have made their mark, the native americans were treated the worst out of everyone and they've managed to do well in many areas.
Those and many more groups struggle and continue to ... and honestly i don't hear much media spin on it. What you do hear all the time is stuff about the black community. The only thing that makes logical sense to me at this point in time is that most of the problems stem from the black community itself. The fact that you can't even say something like that in public without being called a racist adds validity to my point IMO.

But I digress. Yes, people can never seem to admit a problem with themselves these days, they just wanna beat around the bush and say what makes them feel good. (this post isnt aimed at ih8rice because i agree with some of the chit he's said in this theread)

If Jews, Chinese, and hispanics had all come here and had the same opportunities as whites, they'd be a lot better off too. Simply put, the black community has a long way to go, but I agree with both your point and theirs. It's hard for me to understand about the struggle because I come from an affluent background and live well now. Maybe I'm out of touch with their reality?

Mmmmkayyyyyy.
"When my homies use the word, it's ok". So presumably he has no white "homies".
Meh. My opinion is either stop using the word, or let everyone use it.
If you hear the word 15 times a day, because it's in mainstream pop/rap then occasionally a white person is gonna slip up.
