^ this.

Only up until really recent history has the western culture tried to really implement the "new" meaning of gender. Lol @ the Canadian guy fighting it, typical.

and also lol @ his claims that this was the norm starting in 1960... no, that's when you found the difference noted for the first time in one dictionary. It wasn't the popular intention to have it be any different from "sex" up until about 10-15 years ago, it's an agenda.

Please google the etymology of the word gender. You are mistaken.

It has never been synonymous with sex.

Prior to the 50's it was used in reference to categories of nouns.

This is actually an example of conservatives changing the definition of gender, not liberals.

As a follow up, feel free to read about the etymology herehttp://www.oed.com/view/Entry/77468

You'll notice gender was first used to refer to the social roles of men and women in 1945.

I don't think you understand what people are saying in this thread. You can point to textbooks dating back to 1960 and 1945 (which doesn't mean that was the widely accepted definition, just the first appearance of a "new" definition), what people are discussing in this thread is a cultural shift that's happening in the US to skew how we referred to "gender" in recent years.

You're not from the US so you maybe only have a few links to look at, but you can truly go ask any long time residents in the US and they will point out a giant cultural shift here that has taken place and really started in the last 10-15 years. It wasn't the conservatives. I think this is why you're not getting along or making sense to people in this thread, you're from another country and just not understanding it. I think everyone here understands that gender/sex isn't always as clear cut as it is for the majority of us, but there's a movement to influence a lot of change here, a lot of it not for the better. Good luck with your links.

I am simply responding to the posts that say gender = sex. From a basic dictionary definition of the words, that is incorrect.

I am not, nor have I made any reference to any broader cultural trends etc . So I have no idea what your post is referring to

Have you ever seen one of those scenes in a movie where everyone in the roomunderstandswhat the other is talking about? Everyone in the room knows the general idea of what they are discussing is correct and stands true, but there's that one annoying guy in the room who opens a textbook and tries to prove everyone wrong? You're that guy right now.

This entire thread is discussing the cultural shift, and you're not so dumb you don't know that. By posting in it arguing with everyone you're going against something just for what... a bit of virtue signaling online? You know exactly what you're doing by "Oh innocent me I'm just posting links trying to show thateveryone is wrong and I'm right. Just stop.

While sure, you can find some older textbooks that discuss the very first introduction of the new meaning of gender going back 60 years, don't be an ass trying to be so technical. You know what everyone is saying and unless you live in your moms basement, you're aware of the cultural shift going on which for the most part is ridiculous. You're playing dumb.

edit: Jesus ****ing christ, you even have somebodies gaffe/incorrect statement copy and pasted into your signature. I didn't realize what kind of person I'm dealing with here lol you obviously have a lot to prove don't you.

Yeah, again, please feel free to review the posts this responds to.

It responds to people saying gender and sex are the same thing. And then basing their arguments off if that.

Its unfortunate you are so triggered by this that you cannot understand that simple fact.

Furthermore, this isn't about some random text book, etc. This is the literal definition of a word. Which conservatives in this thread are arguing liberals have changed to suit their needs etc. As I have pointed out, and as you remain completely oblivious to, that is completely incorrect.

This isn't some text book issue. It's a that's literally the way it is issue.

No. You're just taking the same position these posters. Are, now that it's clear that's not the case, you've shifted to "well, that's just in book, but in real life" and then continued to make some argument I never brought up.

Given this thread had turned into a discussion of sex vs gender, and whether those two words are synonymous, and if and when the definition of the word changed, it seems strange you'd then get upset at the discussion of the definition of the word gender.

First, I never posted anything in this thread prior to calling you out for being annoying and never had a "position" prior to that and second you're just justifying the way you're acting and being the most annoying guy in the thread. Everyone noticed it but you... doesn't that tell you something?

That's alright man, carry on your battle or whatever it is you want to do I was just trying to help out a bit.

Seems like a half-assed/uncommitted/best of both worlds thing to me. I have more respect for the 'dudes' who say that's what they identify as and have the ops to fully change gender (as far as is currently possible) rather than keeping male genitalia and expecting to be recognised as a woman.
Simple minds need simple answers.

I did say assuming, since I don't know about this particular person. But if that's the case, I obviously don't have a huge amount of knowledge of the process, then yeah I guess husband wouldn't technically be wrong. Though I'm still happy to refer to them by wife because I'm not a butthole.

Edit: just googled, you appear to be wrong, in Canada where the article is from at least.

Misc has always been much more progressive than the rest of the world. It was years ago that we agreed that fapping it to tranny penis isn't gay. One day the rest of the world will catch up to the misc and realise that tranny penis doesn't count.

This is ridiculous though. The fact that I have to call a guy with a penis "ma'am" or else I'm an *******? What a strange world we live in.

I dont really care what others do unless it affects me but my point was America is so fukced up now that just because someone says "I want to be a female" they are considered female.

What if I want to be black...well Rachael dolezal already paved the way I guess...

He's not a female and never will be. People Sould still treat him with respect and be nice but I don't have to agree that he's a female ..or wife.

People have gone full retard for sure.

What if I want to be black...well Rachael dolezal already paved the way I guess...

He's not a female and never will be. People Sould still treat him with respect and be nice but I don't have to agree that he's a female ..or wife.

People have gone full retard for sure.
I agree with the treating them with respect, that's why I have no problem with referring to them as a wife etc.

It's clearly a mental illness so I'm not going to chit on someone for something they can't help. That being said, clearly a surgical/hormonal solution to a mental illness is not ideal, so I hope another treatment is being worked on to make them identify with the gender they were born with, but this is the best we've got right now so what can ya do.

I agree.
I just hate how everyone caters to a select few.
I guess i can see if he had gone through with the operation and they were just discriminating against him (her.. whatever) but dude has a penis and I would feel uncomfortable if I was getting a pedicure and he was walking around naked.

Instead of people admitting it's a mental illness they are all just going along with it like it's completely normal. It must suck feeling like you were born the wrong gender for sure, but they shouldn't expect everyone to kiss their ass .

How barbaric.

It's 2017, just accept trannies already just like the 57 genders that are already accepted.
