When I went to school if I'd have kicked a teacher I'd have have been paddled in the principles office & expelled then when I got home I'd have been physically disciplined by my father then punished for at least 2 weeks.



Times have changed. People don't discipline their kids anymore. They prefer for the police to do it. Then the other half of the population whine that the police are doing the job they are asked/paid to do.

You're right. I have no children so I can't imagine how i'd feel about the situation if I had that understanding. But if my kid were yelling and cursing at the cops, and myself as the parent, which i'm pretty sure the kid cursed at his mom, i'd probably let my kid be detained and spend a night in jail for being so disrespectful. I'm not raising a kid like that. Even with mild autism (which it looks like that kid has).

Does the kid have true autism or does he have one of these spectrum disorders aka this kid acts different from other kids so let's put him on 20 different meds a day? Most autistic kids have handlers to help during melt downs and intercede. Also they usually go to special schools that have experience dealing with autism

It's this zero tolerance BS instituted by liberals in public schools back in the 90's.

Every issue has to be solved the same way. Kid brings a gun to school? Call the cops. Kid bites into a pop tart to make it look like a gun? Call the cops. Kid draws gun on a piece of paper? Call the cops. Escalated to the maximum so that school administrators cannot be held accountable because they are simply following policy.

It's stupid.

Pretty sure they had to call them for something like this because in the case of a freak out the school administration. aren't allowed to physically restrain students. Kid prob won't be punished but I'm pretty sure in these sorts of cases school rules prevent any sort of physical interaction with students.

The problem is he's a 10 year old CHILD with autism who doesn't really understand the seriousness of his situation. If that kid lashed out and slapped one of the cops, like children sometimes do when they are angry or frustrated, you've now got a situation where the kid gets an "assaulting a police officer" charge, which probably means taken from his home and put into the system (do they still have juvenile hall?). They are treating him like an adult and his actions have the consequences of an adult, but he's a child. Those 2 cops are idiots. They had a chance to really de-escalate the situation and refused to do so. Just a couple of moments of calm discussion with the child and the mother, letting them know what was going to happen and answering their questions, and then they could have proceeded. The school policy is to blame, but those 2 automatons in police uniforms didn't help.

I'm the farthest thing from anti-cop, but it really bugs me that today's police have zero clue about dealing with the public with anything other than an us vs. them mentality. There is no reason they couldn't have answered that mother's questions.

People with autism struggle with over-stimulation and don't like to be touched that bit is right, and they even seemed to be taking that into consideration because they didn't grab him and physically walk him to the car - just gentle open hand touches to keep him walking

Yeah it's weird to arrest a kid, but without knowing the story you don't know why it's happening. Kid could have stabbed someone for all we know, he'd been brought to that room for 'testing' as a lure, maybe he stabbed someone a few weeks ago and they died and he needed to be brought in now
