Had every one of these as a kid. Our house was like a zoo. Funniest thing was when the family came home from a week vacation. My grandparents came to the house every few days to feed the pets. Well they forgot to shut the cage of my five foot Iguana. Dad walks in and immediately goes to check the answering machine in the kitchen (around 1992, no cell phones.) Leaning on the counter listening to messages, didn't turn on the kitchen light. I notice the cage is open and my Iguana named Dino isn't in there. He was right next to the answering machine on the kitchen counter not a foot from my Dad's face. It was kinda dark in there and lizards get docile with no sun or heat so he didn't move. Told my Dad to slowly back up and when he saw why he freaked the **** out. Was so funny. Cause Iguanas have a wicked tail whip when pissed. And he was a big one.

Not sure I've ever seen a yellow belly slider, that I remember anyway... have only seen red ears, maybe I looked quick and thought they were that last time. They similar to red ears?

Both of them make up 2 out of 3 of the three members of the same subspecies of the slider family. Same care, same everything except colors/markings.

Red-eared slider
yellow bellied slider
cumberland slider.

All 3 are alike except in markings, all can cross breed too iirc.

Meet Cheech and Chong, 11 years old, I got them when they were the size of a walnut. They live in my garden, in a pond enclosure I built for them. It's heated and filtered, but everything else is completely natural/wild. I don't feed them, they hunt insects (mainly slugs and larvae) and eat the leafy greens growing in their enclosure, they're particularly fond of nettles and dock leaves. For anyone wondering if that's a healthy lifestyle, I can confirm they go to a specialized vet twice a year and are completely healthy.

We had a scare a few years ago when the male (the smaller of the two, total cuck) got pneumonia. Luckily I noticed something was wrong quickly enough. I had to give him antibiotic injections for 3 weeks (horrendous thing to have to do to such a small creature, but you gotta do what you gotta do). Other than that they've had zero health issues their entire lives.

Thanks! Yeah, they are pretty big. The female is almost at 4lbs and the male is 3lbs. I'd estimate the female is about 8.5" and the male is 6.5".

It came to the point that I had to make them an outdoor enclosure because they were just getting too big. I changed 4 aquariums and they just kept outgrowing them, to the point where in their last aquarium they started getting aggressive with each other because there just wasn't enough space for them to both live comfortably. So that's when I decided it was time to move them outdoors. The aggressive behavior stopped immediately and they've been happy out there for about 4 years now.

I generally don't feed them anything at all because there's an abundance of wild food in their enclosure and over the years they've become excellent at hunting/foraging. However, I do occasionally spoil them with some raw fish just as a treat.

Mirin your sliders hard too, their shells look very healthy. The lighter/more colorful one looks exactly like my female did when she was that size and the darker one looks exactly like my male did.

Excellent work! I cannot wait for mine to grow up, and I feel like it will actually be fun to upgrade them at different stages of their lives. Right now I have several turtle pellets in rotation (1 brand a day), and worms, crickets, larvae and greens floating 24/7 (refreshing daily).

Thanks man. It's awesome watching them grow up, adapting/upgrading their environment and seeing them thrive. Your Sliders' diet seems right on point, that's pretty much exactly what I fed them when they were younger.

I have a mated pair of frog eyed geckos (russian) arriving tomorrow morning by 10:30 AM EST. The seller called me before packing them up and told me the male has dropped it's tail when he attempted to catch him...*sigh*....but the good news is the tail will regenerate and it'll come back completely normal. And it won't affect how many eggs they give me. I have my DIY incubator made underneath their official setup. I'm excited, but hey...if my dogs (boxers) have no tails, then I can live with a pet lizard without a tail that'll only be temporary.

Anyway, I am breeding them and selling them now.
