It's been said before. Since going vegan is too much to bear for most, the BEST thing everyone can do is just try to eat less meat and up your veggies. That's it

ZERO excuse for it with the wealth of information we have these days. The same people who argueforcontinued meat-eating and animal slavery are the same types who'd have owned human slaves in the past.
Seeing Gary Yourofsky's speech below, followed by Earthlings I haven't eaten animals since. It's been a year and a half now. Best choice I ever made by far.

That where the most extreme vegans are from. There's some who won't eat a carrot cause it kills the whole plant.

LOL

"Oh I don't eat meat because animals are sentient beings. So I only eat vegetables because they aren't sentient."

Says ****ing who? Plants are alive. This reminds me of a peer-reviewed paper which investigated if lobsters feel pain when boiled alive. Turns out they do. Shocker.

plants do interact with the environment in order to exist as living organisms but have no cognitive function. noting the ways they do and then saying that they are living, thinking creatures is simply absurd. plants do not suffer when they are cut in half and die, they do not scream in fear and pain when pulled from the ground. they have no nervous system and no ability to actually think. they think less than bugs or basic sea life thinks.

^ how do you think the biggest and strongest animals in the wild who all eat plants get protein? protein from plants is of higher quality And many plants have much more favorable protein to fat/carb ratios than meat meals

the main advantage of eating meat is it keeps you full for a longer time than even a large meal of vegetables

Meat is good, it will sustain one in a time of need and we shouldn't shy away from using it that way. I think we consume way too much meat in America at the very least. Meat every day, let alone for every meal. We don't have the physical education/mandatory exercise programs needed to support such gains.
It is not so much the major events as the small day-to-day decisions that map the course of our living. . . Our lives are, in reality, the sum total of our seemingly unimportant decisions and of our capacity to live by those decisions. ― Gordon B. Hinckley

You're absurd. Just because they don't respond in the ways which you expect animals to respond, doesn't mean they're not sentient or that they don't feel anything.

I'm a meat eater but I try to mainly eat local farm products and avoid supermarket meats. I grew up on a farm and have no problem with eating bird and eggs. I try and limit my beef intake although I love it.

Vegans are the hipsters of the food pyramid. I don't think anyone except other edgy *******s takes them seriously. Nothing more cringey than a vegetarian/vegan who thinks their lifestyle is more correct than the rest of ours and actively goes around debating to prove their point.

Different biologies have different protein requirements.

"When I advise eating like a gorilla, people often make two obvious points. First of all, there are striking differences between humans and gorillas. And gorillas mainly eat a vegetarian diet. However, what’s less well-known is that gorillas have a longer digestive tract than humans do, allowing them to more efficiently extract nutrients from plants, Lukas and Less told me.

With our shorter digestive tracts, people need a higher amount of protein and that’s why my diet, which includes small amounts of wild fish and high-quality (naturally raised) lean meat, is designed for omnivores. "

Humanity is absolutely disgusting when you actually stop to think about it.

If you change the meat industry scenario to humans being farmed for food by aliens you'd consider the aliens to be the most evil creatures in existence. Even the aliens that eat us without being directly involved in our slaughter, we would view as complicit, brainwashed scum.

I agree with vegetarianism in principle but not veganism. There are plenty of dairy animals that live a happy life.

I expect that in another 100years people will look back at meat eaters with the same horror that we look back at the Nazi's.

Personally, I don't believe that there is one size fits all in regards to diet.

Which is what annoys me when vegans claim that everyone would thrive health wise on a diet. IMO and IME people need to find what diet works best for them; vegan, vegetarian, pescetarian, Paleo, Mediterranean, etc. And even then, there may be certain foods that may agree with some people, and not with others.

IMO there's no medication that works for everyone (my ex used to react badly to over the counter 'fen' painkillers, to the point that she had to go to hospital), and no diet that works for everyone. Despite what vegans say.

I hope that vegans stay away from the health arguments, and focus on the ethical arguments.

Grains and legumes - apart from chickpeas - screw up my stomach (and I'm not alone) which pretty much renders a vegan diet impossible, if I care about my health (which I do).

I agree with their ethical arguments though and am aiming to sharply decrease me meat consumption

There's a difference between sentience and sapience.

A chicken or cow isn't regarded as sapient, a homosapien is.

In your scenario one sapient species would be eating another sapient species. When now it's a sapient species eating sentient species.

The only reason why I'm not going vegan is convenience. Eating a meat based diet it's much more easier and cheaper where I live. If I could get at least 0.82-1 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight at the same price and effort, I would go vegan. I love carbs, especially potatoes (80% of my daily intake of carbs comes from potatoes, lol).
The truth is here:

What do you mean by sapient? I thought it meant 'human like'? Anyway it's a creature's capacity for pain, suffering etc which is relevant to how they should be treated

Great thread. I just want to add that you dont have to go vegan overnight. Maybe try to go a day without eating meat and see how you feel. If its manageable, try a day without meat AND dairy, and so on. Its not all or nothing, every effort towards a more ethical way of living counts. As for proteins, I easily eat 150+g a day without even trying. Its really easier than most people think

Dumbass point

Humans have the ability to reason ethically. You can't just abdicate moral responsibility by saying "hurrr durrr animals do it it's natural"

Rape/murder etc are probably 'natural' and almost everything about modern society isn't

the next ad hominem of the night... gotta love cheap people.

it is not set in stone that eating meat is unethical. it just shows that human society as a whole is just getting dumber and dumber. because if you read the secret life of plants, you'd know that plants have feelings and suffer when you pick them. you hold no rationality in your logical fallacies, nor your "morals", because you are an ignorant hypocrite.

subtle hint: don't give me another logical fallacies. take a logic class at a college or something.

it is not set in stone that eating meat is unethical. it just shows that human society as a whole is just getting dumber and dumber. because if you read the secret life of plants, you'd know that plants have feelings and suffer when you pick them. you hold no rationality in your logical fallacies, nor your "morals", because you are an ignorant hypocrite.

subtle hint: don't give me another logical fallacies. take a logic class at a college or something.

"You're a fat retard" - that would be an ad hominem..... Although I would never stoop so low obviously
