I dont believe in morals. There is no universal right and wrong.
I instead believe in personal principles remaining true to them.

You might want to elaborate on what you meant.

Good choice of adjective there.

That does not give them objective existence. They are a product of our world-view and emotions. If we were not human and had evolved sentience via the process of evolution with different animal stock, we would have a different emotional set, a different rational process and a different set of morals. Morals are subjective.
In fact, we don't need to posit an alien race in order to observe different moral values. We can check out different groups of humans and different values held in different times and places.

Sure, a certain group might have no problem with killing innocent people and for them it's okay because of their "justifications for doing so." Morals are subjective but objective at the same time. To the vast majority of the human race, the group killing innocent people will be looked down upon.
Also, I'm sure that some of the members of the group that kills innocent people know deep down that what they are doing is wrong, but they continue due to being either brainwashed or coping by drinking, doing drugs, etc. Humans aren't emotionless robots at the end of the day.

In regards to the universal conundrum, I am referring to humans, not animals. Any way I can clarify that?

I would be hard pressed to come up with a definition of "animals" that would exclude humans.

I'm saying given that we're western humans, is being moral, in those terms, a weakness or a strength?
I'm a moral guy with a strong sense of right vs wrong. I rarely do wrong by people, and have difficulty lying/cheating/stealing, and in the occasional instances when I do one of those things, I feel bad about it. I'm starting to think that being this way is a weakness. that if I were able to lie, for example, without others knowing that I'm lying, or without feeling bad afterwards, that it would be an advantage in life insofar as it would be easier to get what I want.
but then I wonder if, after a lifetime of lying/cheating/etc, if I were to achieve more than I would have while being totally moral and honest, if I might be kind of miserable vs truly honest achievement.
doesn't matter anyway, I'm not gonna change, just food for thought. since I'm not one of them, I like to think that anyone who cheats his way through life isn't completely satisfied or truly happy with himself. I could be wrong though.
