Curious to know how many married guys who say their wife is their best friend had any best male friends when they got married? I can't see myself wanting a best female friend instead of the best bros that I currently have.

Everyday, I'm grateful to have found a sane, sexy, rational woman who is probably the nicest person I've ever met. We met in 8th grade and have been in each others lives for 2 decades at this point. Having grown up together, our communication is rock solid, which has helped us stay together and become better at being a couple. It takes work, don't be fooled, but with the right person, it's entirely worth it. We want each other to succeed everywhere, and are always encouraging and pushing ourselves. The sex is off the damn charts, and we both lust after each other like we did as teenagers.

The only thing that I could say is "bad" is how she's hesitant to move away from here due to her parents being relatively close by (few hours) and the fact that they're getting old. I want to get the f**k out of the Northeast, so it's a bit of a roadblock. Other than that, I have zero complaints.

Had and HAVE many male and some female friends before meeting my wife. My wife is my best friend and closest ally but we both have lots of other people in our lives.

Your hunch is correct: I know people like that and they're pretty socially stunted. Plus my wife is the coolest chick I know but let's be honest, you still need to spend time with the boys to discuss/do "guy stuff". I like spending time w my wife, but it's a totally different thing than time w my friends, ya dig?

I got married in my mid 30s. My wife and I dated for a couple years and we've been through some tough times together. She's been there for me at my worst and was always supportive. She has the traditional, "I need to take care of my man" mindset which I love. My wife is smart and funny but stubborn as heck at times. No lie we do argue and clash at times but in the end we love each other. Like others have said marriage takes work. If you don't work at it it will fail. My wife is my best friend and also like others have said I wish I had more male friends to hang with. (no homo) I spend most of my time with my daughters but getting out and distracting my mind is healthy. I think this is why I focus quite a bit of time on my online businesses.

I am glad I got all the partying and slooting around out of my system because I know I would have cheated. I lived the single life a long time but it was never fulfilling until I found my wife. Marriage is a give and take relationship. We currently have a baby and we both agreed she would stay at home and I would take on the bills. We don't want our toddler at a daycare. She gets pissed off at times because the baby is driving her nuts. I understand her feelings so when I come home from work I don't take any time off and go straight to the baby. It sucks because naturally I would like to relax but I know my baby loves the attention and her Daddy. You learn a lot about yourself and life in general when you're married. All the external noise doesn't matter. Family takes on a new meaning when you're all in.

My wife and I would always say, "It's us versus the world." Marriage is not for everyone and if you're weak mentally then please do not waste anyone's time. Time is precious and you don't get it back. Make the most of it and do the little things that make your spouse smile. Trust me this does matter. As different as we are we make it work and I think our differences is what keeps our marriage interesting. Keep an open mind and try new things. Don't be that old dog that never learns new tricks. Evolve as time goes on and don't take your spouse for granted.

This. What happens is most Men, especially those dating/married for a good amount of time develop a sort of Marriage Stockholm Syndrome. They have learned to cope with their current situation (Men in prison adapt as well) and severely downplay the negatives in acceptance.

This is why you'll get responses with them factoring in a "percentage" of good times vs bad.

of all these marriage threads I have yet to see a single good reason to actually do it. I live with my GF of 3 years and I don't have to worry about her breaking up with me because BS female logic, "uh muh feelings. we're different." etc. no fear of her ruining my credit, making me get a lawyer and go to court and no spending thousands on a party to feed and provide drinks for a bunch of people I don't really like anyways.

I'll give you young miscers a little advice - I'm not married but I've been with my GF for many years and she's always staying at my place spending the night here so basically we're married.

Compromise on the colour of the walls - not what you tolerate in a woman.

This means that while compromise is a part of any relationship, it doesn't mean you have to settle for a woman that is anything less than exactly the type of person you want to be around.
If your gf does things that are unfair, and makes you feel sour deep down - you don't have to tolerate it. You can choose to walk away.
If she tries to control you and run your life - that isn't normal. It's not a normal part of a relationship. It's toxic. Walk away.

Don't settle for anything. Ever. Make all of this clear from the get go and don't bend your standards. You may run into instances where you feel like you're being too harsh but trust me you aren't. If things bother you deep down or if she does things that don't sit right with you there's a reason deep down in your subconscious why that is. Listen to that voice boyos.

Also - and I've said this before 100 times - never commit to somebody who makes you feel as though you can't be your true self around them. If they are dating you but trying to mold or change you into a version that they prefer - get out fast. It won't end well. The saying "opposites attract" is absolute horsechit and some of the worst advice ever. Like minded people attract. Your partner needs the same sense of humour, the same ambition, the same values & morals. You need to be like best friends.

Being around them HAS to feel as comfortable as being alone. I repeat YOU NEED to feel 100% percent at ease around them or you will be miserable. If part of you is 'shut off' or silenced when you're around them or if you can't really speak your mind you will live a miserable life married to them. Mark my words.Get away from women who make you feel like you're walking on eggshells around them. It will never get better and it will never amount to anything healthy in the long run. If you feel like the relationship is based around you trying to please them - and avert a crisis that takes place when they don't get their way - walk away from them.

Having said all that - I'm happy with who I'm with. She doesn't even feel like a "girlfriend" she just feels like a female best friend that I bang. We laugh about the same **** and like doing the same things. And if there's something she wants to go do that I'm not into - she can do it and she doesn't pout that I'm not into it. Likewise if I feel like going out to get yucky at the pub one night and she's not into it she chills at my place by herself and does her own thing. There's no pouting or guilt tripping or any of that garbage. This is the level of comfort and ease you have to strive for in a relationship. I personally couldn't ever tolerate anything but this. I'd stay single forever before I ever felt like I was dragging around a wet towel through life.

There's a 90% chance we don't want kids but that may change. I'm not opposed - but we just like freedom and money (mainly I like money) and travelling so much that we can't see ourselves giving that up to take care of another human being. We also both lift together and are physically active and motivate eachother in life. She supports everything I do and every venture I take on. This will sound lame to some but she's the purest person I know - she reminds me of how amazing human beings can actually be before life destroys the spark and wonder inside them and turns them into bitter miserable shells. How she pulls this off after 30 years is beyond me. I'll never know but I love her for it. I know it's easy to think that good people don't exist in this age of Tinder and meaningless internet hookups, but there are good people you just have to demand them in your life and know you deserve nothing less than that. Or maybe I just got lucky and the rest of you are fukd. I'm not sure. But I think there's hope for you boyos. Just get the fuk off things like Tinder.

This is what you need to demand from yourself - tolerate nothing less. If it feels like you're settling then you are. Don't settle. Don't bend your standards for the type of person you want in your life.

Hope this reaches some of you.

Man speaks the truth. Been married 21 years wife looks great, have 2 great kids, and get laid 1 or 2x a week. She's a great person, fun to be around, great cook, mother and wife. We disagree and have arguments like everyone else. Wouldn't trade her in.

Interesting point here.

If we take getting raped by the courts out of the equation, maybe this is really the best way to look at it.

Is "death do us part" even realistic. How can someone be expected to know exactly who they are and what they believe after only 10 years (give or take) of being an adult. Perhaps accepting that people grow and change over time, and that if people begin to head down divergent paths that's a totally normal thing and soulmates need not be forever.
A young bull and an old bull were standing atop a hill looking at a bunch of heifers in a field below.

The young bull says "Let's run down this hill and fuk one of those heifers."

The old bull replies "No. Let's walk down there, and fuk them all."

Newly wed here. So far, not so bad. I've been dating this girl for about 4 years so the "blissful period" is gone and has been gone. Anyone who thinks marriage is some blissful neverending manby panby land bs is sadly mistaken - that's typically only the first 3-6 months of a relationship.

There are certainly some things I regret about it. For one she doesn't have an education and only makes about $40k at the moment, which will slowly go up. And her job lacks flexibility unlike mine. We do ok on a $140-$150k household income so far but sometimes I wonder how standard of life would be if I married into equal financial status.

Other than that she cooks way better than me, is still very open to sex, is open to eating healthy and working out with me, and really hasn't been a negative "bich". Also we keep a clean house and so far have contributed evenly to chores. She's very positive and optimistic compares to girls I used to date in the past, and honestly I think that is what drove me to finally put a ring on it. Because like all of you guys I was very bearish on marriage throughout my 20's.

There are certainly some things I regret about it. For one she doesn't have an education and only makes about $40k at the moment, which will slowly go up. And her job lacks flexibility unlike mine. We do ok on a $140-$150k household income so far but sometimesI wonder how standard of life would be if I married into equal financial status.

Friends have always been a mix of women and men. Gym friends in particular are close to 50% women.

Wife and I do everything together. I don't have any hobbies that she doesn't partake in and same goes for her.

Married for 13 years with 2 kids. My wife and kids are awesome. I wouldn't trade them for anything.

Married with 2 kids, aged 3 and 1. Wife and I work from home together so are together pretty much 24/7. Get along great, she cooks, cleans, does laundry and makes good money. Still skinny and puts out. I got lucky. Previous 2 gfs wanted to get married and I didn't see it with them so obviously ended it. Be picky and marry your best friend.

What she lacks in salary, she makes up for in your marriage. She sounds great me to.
