English was introduced at the end of 2008 as an official language so you'll get in the bigger towns but not so much in the rural areas. Mostly Kinyarwanda, French and Swahili spoken.

I'm srsly going to take the fam on a safari in 2018. We were thinking South Africa at this point. Should I consider Rwanda instead? Is there much of a safari based tourism industry over there?

I've been to Kenya twice. Once as a young child and once as a teen. How does Rwanda compare to that?

Lol. I posted it because I am proud of how far we've come and how committed we are to moving forward. I want others to see it too. It gets tiring to hear people use Rwanda as an example of the worst place to live in conversations on the internet. That was 23 years ago. We are moving on.

I'll be the first to tell you that there are very few places on earth that compare to Cape Town in terms of what it has to offer for a tourist. It's cheaper than Rwanda, probably better value for money and more diversity in the tourist packages.

But Rwandans, ironically, are wonderful people and you're guaranteed a good trip. Our savannah is smaller than Kenya's but you'll get the lions, wildebeest, elephants and most of the usual savannah animals. And like I said, we have some of the last remaining silverback gorillas on earth; you can hike active volcanoes and see the lava lakes on the border; the rain forests with all kinds of monkeys and birds.

It's cheaper than Kenya in that the trip to the park can be done in a day. But the gorillas cost 1500 dollars to see. The rate was doubled recently.

I commend you for it. I don't think I could or would, but no doubt, you'd also have no country. How many did you lose? How did you all feel about the UN, who sat there and did nothing to prevent it? Is that just ignored to move on or taught in schools etc?

That's a wonderful thing. Good to know ritual female circumcision did not take hold in your country. Something else you can thank Islam for. I'd never visit a country where that was a common practice where they held their women in such low regard.

I am not sure how many. I grew up as a refugee in Uganda so the people I lost were mostly those who were among the RPF soldiers trying to stop the genocide. Everybody lost somebody in the genocide. There's not a single person who didn't lose someone. Tutsis lost about 70% of our people but the Hutus ended up losing people to disease and other reasons in the camps they fled to in the DRC.

And as for the UN - it taught us a lesson. Depending on people sucks - we are trying never to be in that position again.

Back when I was in Egypt one of the mentors I respected the most was this Burundi man that fled the civil war that was happening there. He was my gym coach. His story was very inspiring and gave me perspective on how easy I have it in life.

Basically:

-Rwandan genocide happened, and he had to flee the country. He never saw his parents again after that.
-after trials and tribulations (and being held at gun point) he managed to arrive alone at a refugee camp to seek help.
-Refugee camp relocated him to the Congo where he lived for a time.
-Then Congolese civil war happened, and he fled again to another refugee camp.
-Eventually, he ended up in Egypt.

Never been to Rwanda but South Africa was a fun in 2004 when I visited. Would love to go back to Africa and do another Safari and visit tribes again.

I hate to be the one to destroy this picture but if he was a Burundian fleeing the Rwandan genocide in 1994, I am almost 100% sure he is a genocidaire.

We had Burundian Hutu refugees in the country at the time and they are recorded as being some of the most vicious killers because they had a score to settle against Tutsis. If he fled the 1994 genocide through the Congo, he's most likely a Burundian Hutu who murdered people and has re-invented himself.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of these kinds of Rwandan refugees abroad telling a sob story when they are the murderers.

All Rwandans were encouraged to repatriate. If a Rwandan is still a refugee, they are running away from justice.

Rwandan women are still fairly traditional. That said, the values here are different. People rarely marry for love or looks. An attractive man is one who first and foremost comes from a good family and can provide for a family of his own. The younger generation is changing but that still holds in most cases.

Women are supposed to be: demure, good looking and from a good family. The order changes depending on who's looking.

Just more for us smart brahs. I checked out the IG page, and some hnnnng was had. How do they respond to white men? What is the general perception of say people from the US, and some white people from the US? I assume there's not many white residents? You have yet to mention the gyms. Do you even lift?

What's the nickname for us white boys? Like Gringo in Spanish countries, etc. I know there's gotta be a nickname. Gringo is technically an insult, but few of us take it what way. I tell them "yo soy Gringo" and they either think I'm nuts or laugh.
