Getting ready for the gym. Need some constructive criticism please...

I think my legs/quads are overpowering my ass. I want really big quads though...like this (not her arms)

Is that what's throwing my figure off?
Also my ribcage is huge (and I have flared ribs) so implants (may) help with the look of that. I think I can get my waist down maybe another 2"max. That's gonna take some work though.

Anyways...happy leg day!

Your ass is great. I don't think quads take away from glutes (in terms of visual) at all. I noticed though that the bottom booty curve (not sure what it's called, but bottom of your butt cheek, where dat sexy booty crease would be) is more... Curvy if your hamstrings are really defined.

I'm not a booty expert, but that's about the only think I can think of right now.

Well I've wondered that but my hamstrings are actually very defined. Just not all the way up to where my glute /ham ties in. Can someone tell me if DL's will fix that eventually? Figured I'd get at least a few answers since I posted an ass pic lol

Are there any other reasons to exercise/workout vs. aesthetics for those of us who are not competing in the bodybuilding world?

Health, competing in one's sport (volleyball, tennis, [fill in sport]), etc., stress relief?

One thing I have learned in the past 2-3 years is that yes it would be nice to get a smaller waist, but in the overall grand scheme of things, how will this impact my life and the life of those around me?

Would it bring contentment and peace? No
Will it increase my paycheck? No
Would it bring love in my life? No, I have to make myself single to get that from another partner, or find it in other ways
Would it mean more sex? No, I've seen just as much offers for sex at a lower weight and a higher weight. Maybe I would feel more uncomfortable undressing, which is now a bad thing because that means I would engage in unhealthy behaviour

What it comes down to a feeling of control in a life with a lot of uncertainty:

Family members growing old and losing their health
Children turning from cute kids to rebellious teens
Bosses demanding more and more
Layoffs

That is why I am going through a list of Pleasurable Activities which do not revolve around sex and men:

- Learning to play bass
- Paining ceramic figures
- Crossword puzzles
- Competing in tennis again
- Getting back into volunteering at the animal shelter
- Planning future vacations
- Growing spiritually and feeling like there is a bigger purpose than eat, work, sleep

etc.

So I may not look like some physique in here, but there is more to life than just that.

I may never have a 10/10 body, but that doesn't mean I won't be lifting til I'm 70 trying! How I look affects my self esteem. When I was bigger I had horrible proportions and looked like total ****.

Do what makes you happy! I don't workout for men. I took that as you did (?)

I first started lifting bc I want a nicer body. But now I'm hooked. That high after getting my ass kicked at the gym is amazing. You know, walking out with a little pep in your steps. And feeling like you can beat up 1000 grown men with your little bicep pump. That's why I hit the gym in the morning, it sets the tone for my day.

I've been a competitive tennis player since age 10. I just finished a workout against the ball machine, so exercise has been two-fold for me.

I think those tennis outfits were really triggering.

Speaking of hip to waist ratio, here is Anna Kournikova who doesn't have the greatest hip to waist ratio, but it didn't stop her from being one of the most downloaded photos on the internet and one point, and from dating Enrique Iglesias since 2001?!

Yet these photos were in her playing days. Her latest photos are too thin imo.

This wasn't in reference to your post, I was just doing some group therapy homework where this came up because those of us in recovery, when we were sick we used dieting and overexercising as something we could control when our lives felt out of control.

I'm biased because I spend a lot of time in group with people who have starved themselves to a point where you cannot barely look across the room as her face is half caved in, so my experiences are different from most.

I've seen the very dark side of body obsession.

Agree. I've been lifting since age 9 as my Dad was a track coach so I would hang out with his athlete in the weight room.

But I didn't get serious until 2011 when I broke my foot playing tennis, and then went full on hired an IFBB pro trainer and went hardcore 6x a week, contest prep plan 3 years ago.

I have noticed that no one has tried to mess with me since I started lifting.

Maybe it's a false sense of security, but I see no reason to carry a gun. My upper body is big enough to give off a vibe of "don't mess with me".

I travel alone, go on runs/walks alone at night, and walk through a parking lot alone. I felt more vulnerable before I started lifting seriously. The only place I would feel unsafe now is outside of the United States if I travel alone.

Good idea to go in the morning to set the tone for your day. I'm a night owl so I envy that

But I found that weight training is a great counterbalance to the opposite which was anorexia, because you have to eat to put on muscle. In my avi I wasn't eating enough protein and overexercising.

Ya I was going to ask you about the post but figured it was better not to. I'm glad to hear you are recovering! My mom was anorexic as a teen and still battles with it, though not in an extreme sense. She was 120lbs a few months ago (too thin but not necessarily sick looking) she's 5"8. Now she's at 140 and thinks she needs to lose again.

Question though..why don't you change your Avi to show your current healthier body?

Oh, I am sorry to hear that, as it's an illness which affects the entire family, not just the individual.

I had to trash the scale to stop thinking about losing. Is she able to do that?

I've been recovering on and off for many years now, and I'm back in group and individual.

Answer to the last question is Misc detectives as that pic doesn't exist anywhere online, I took it with my phone as it's an old printout. That's why I deleted the imagur photos in here. I shouldn't have posted them but did after a few too many drinks. But yes I debated throwing up that pic for the longest time and think I should have an avi that is like the pics posted in this thread where I'm weight restored. tbh before I posted it I tried to get rid of my avi altogether.
