are you really trying to tell me that all med students do is walk around with a clipboard?

med students probably read more in a week than you've read in your entire life.

This thread serves as a centerhub for insecure autists to feel better about themselves by ragging on a prestigious profession.

Many of the opinions shared in here are 100% wrong. If being a doctor is so easy, then someone needs to explain why the average accepted MD GPA is significantly higher than the average college graduate GPA. Lets now factor in the grade deflation within science undergrads (which make up a majority of accepted MD students) and the grade inflation with easy undergrads (4.0 English).

Going off academic preformance alone, the average MD acceptee is literally smarter than the average U.S. college graduate.

Left the misc for a long time, almost forgot how dumb people are here. brb self-diagnosing based upon a couple symptoms that could apply to hundreds of different things. Yeah, just wikipedia it, lol.

Yeah, this all sounds accurate. I only have one friend who went to medical school and his experience just trying to get admitted was insane. We're talking someone with a ~4.0 in biochemistry, years of EMT experience, etc. and he snuck in by the skin of his teeth to a reputable regional medical school. Certainly not one of the elite schools.

Med school ain't for the faint of heart nor those of average intellect.

I will admit I don't know how they diagnose nowadays but I mean...just learning etiology of diseases is insane

You have to know diseases and what caused them, and then all of the bodily processes going on at the same time..

And then administer medicine which is dealing with all of the aforementioned points..and on top of this, your patient could die if you give them the wrong thing

Pretty nuts. I think a lot of med school has to do with pharmaceutical drugs

Nope it's not. In fact it's probably the one thing that is severely under-covered in med courses. You pretty much end up learning a **** load (doses etc) on the job as an intern.

Depends, both my shoulder doctor and my foot surgeon are awesome, both very knowledgeable and actually listen to my input. The large majority of doctors I've visited though have sucked, the biggest thing being they didn't seem to care about my input on what I was going through. Came off to me as either they have no clue what they're doing or thought they didn't have to listen to anything the patient has to say because they have a formal title.

^^^^Just read the poster way up there, completely agree general practitioners are awful from my experience, specialists are the homies.

You a nurse or doc?

I got as far as microbiology and I'm still fairly close to a bio degree

My cc has a pretty good nursing program so our micro was heavily dependent on prescription drugs. My lab was a research lab where we tested soil samples of whatever we wanted to create new medicine

I had just always heard that med school was mainly about pharma drugs

Sidenote: I remember us having to study about 30 strains of bacteria that all caused "stomach pain"/ "nausea"

Can't imagine how much chit is out there

The restriction of supply is there to keep sick people alive and so we don't have a bunch of dumb people getting into medicine because anyone can do it. Additionally if you increase the supply of medical graduates, not only are you reducing the quality of doctors (which is already bad enough according to this thread), you will inevitably reduce the wages and hence the number of people that want to become doctors, therefore leading to even dumber people becoming doctors and everyone ****ing dying because the doctors are all ****.

Studied Med in Australia, we don't do undergrad, just start right after HS and we get minimal study on pharmaceutical specifics. Mostly general drug classes & therapeutics etc. From what I've heard it's not much different in the US.

seems to be the case with most of these guys, itt alone there were two medcuckos and both were very arrogant and dismissive, thing i don't get is how they managed to pass the aptitude tests that show how humane of a person you are

there was one nurse that posted and they were extremely understanding as would be expected from a healthcare professional so it must just be a doctor thing

yeah that's why they have affirmative action to let in lower quality candidates, cope more with your government protected profession buddy

it is obvious but they were arguing that medicine is better paying than engineering becuase supposedly medicine is the more intellectual discipline when that's simply not the case, try to keep up

This bro. I think your level of cope is extremely alarming. Just found out I may have throat cancer and I know no one but a good doc is gonna help me if I do. No holistic hippy retard has any remedy that can correct a profound genetic defect that has killed 6 people in my family. Docs might have a solution to contain it though.

This is coming from a biochemist with years of education and healthcare experience.

doctors are not special people. they just tell you what they learned in school. if I could lobby the people that provide the info for the text books, I could get medical school to teach students that eating feces is better food.

why do I say this? because doctors learn in school that saturated fat and cholesterol in more than low amounts causes heart disease, and its not true. doctors don't think for themselves, and are taught the wrong info in school, and that's why I didn't become one.

I have been negged by a doctor for saying this before, and shame on him, because hes getting outsmarted by a poor lad like me.

That's not the issue with that kind of thinking. The issue is that people literally think all doctors have to do is remember some symptoms and treatment that they rote learned or can look up in their sources and that's their job done, and they have no idea how complex and interwoven human physiology and pharmacology is. No appreciation for the complexity of all the factors that go into keeping someone alive, eg. history, renal function, hepatic function, immunology, concurrent pharmacological therapy, psychological issues etc. etc. If all you had to do was remember facts then a computer could do your job. These are the people who are lucky doctors exist to save them from their own stupidity.

I have no respect for doctors.... anyone with any sort of ailment can know more than A GP within a couple of hours of reading up on their ailment.

The real miracle of modern medicine is all the machines and diagnosis equipment built by engineers.

Doctors are little more than witch doctors without chemists and engineers.

Trolls. I have taken medical school courses as part of my SMP degree. Medical schools focus on teaching future doctors to critically think based off of facts backed by metadata analysis (highest form of evidence). I'm an honors grad biochemist and competent specialists aremanyorders of magnitude above me with their level of knowledge. You, by comparison, are many orders of magnitude below even my knowledge.

It's no surprise you're this willfully ignorant. You literally know nothing.

There are limitations in medicine based on the current understanding of medical research. The wikipedia aspect of criticism can be said for any career. We are all learning other peoples research at the end of the day. Engineers are learning from professors and books that were compiled by research conducted by thousands of professionals over the years. The purpose of medical school and residency is to train someone to be able to integrate that information and to apply what is most important at the appropriate times. If you have this logic of criticism for medical professionals, that same logic can be applied to almost any career path. The medical doctor isn't so much paid for his sheer knowledge but rather the art of being able to make sense of that knowledge because research is always adding to the medical sciences. You are a lifelong student in essence. So you have to have a deep understanding of the specific field you are in - in order to keep adapting and making sense of new research or even being a part of that new research. Like an ER patient that walks in with symptoms of a stroke - you have seconds to decide what to do otherwise that patient will die or will have permanent neurological consequences. You can't wikipedia yourself out of that situation. Stereotyping a general surgeon as the only doctor of praise is complete bull**** too. He wouldn't know what surgery he was doing if it wasn't for the team of various doctors that referred the patient to the stage of needing surgery in the first place. It's 2017. Very rarely is one discipline of medicine completely managing a critically ill patient. Being in the career, I respect the general practioners the most who have to have acumen to be able to distinguish between someone who has a benign vs serious-life threatening illness when any vague symptom to could mean anything. Good fatigue, you can have differentials ranging from simple lack of sleep or nutrional deficiencies all the way to leukemias and various other carcinomas. You need extensive training to be able to prevent a serious disorder from reaching it's full potential.
Lol. Self righteous prick.
People like you don't give a **** about anyone. Let's see i'd you would be a doctor if you pay was capped at 60k a year.

Scum like you sell your soul for profit.

Doctors fail miserably at catching early disease states. You stupid puck, you think a doctor is going to be around when someone is getting a heart attack or stroke? I actually had a room full of doctors ignore my families concerns that my grandfather suffered a stroke. They ignored it and later found it he did have one.

You ever been in a real we room? Don't you see what the doctors are doing? Nothing, other than talking ****, dragging their feet, and robbing the 99% for their "services."

You deserve to for in he'll, you and all those ducking money hungry parasites.

I personally know 2 people that became doctors that were dumb arrogant idiots. Average gpa and average mcat. Stop spreading lies that medical school is hard to get into...its not, it's just that space is limited because you ducking kings want to artificially inflate your salary with a low supply of doctors.

You are a disgusting piece of animal s.h.i.t

I don't blame doctors. I think most have great intentions and generally want to help people. I do think that the medical industry has become so much more about profits than practicing medicine that you really have to think hard about what the motivations are when you go to the doctor. If a doctor is going to get paid to prescribe you a certain medication then he has some obvious incentive beyond just making you feel better, especially when doctors spend like 10-15 minutes tops with patients and have little to no personal connection with them.

I think certain specialists are definitely necessary but general practitioners I'm not really going to go to if I can help it. Why do I want to pay a co-pay to go to an office and get my blood pressure taken when I can do that at Walgreens, and be told to drink more water.

Nah man. PimpinisEasy can go online and in a matter of hours and decide which SSRI they should take to quell their FA feelings. All it takes is a 'couple of hours' to master the nuances of neurochemistry. Heck, he can probably dismantle Andishehhank's indivudal model of fat fuk type 2 alcoholism. I could be wrong. I haven't checked wikipedia. Maybe he's actually fat because of type 1 alcoholism and a defective dopaminergic system.

Screw it. I don't have 2 hours to read online. Pimpiniseasy, could you school me on how SERT density may affect alcoholic subtypes?

Any modern schooled psychiatrist could make a solid hypothesis on which SSRI would be most appropriate for a patient based on life story, family history, medical history, and current PT comorbidities/prescriptions.

You are willfully ignorant of the level of knowledge many doctors possess.

This. Nurse practitioners could take the place of GPs.

You sounds angry. I'm pretty ecstatic that a GP suspected my cough and excess mucus production could be something more serious. He referred me to an ENT and in less than a week I went from a mild cough to learning I likely have early onset throat cancer. I gave my dad a call (he's an MD), and he ****s me up with the truth that five people in my family have died from throat cancer.

I'm pretty thankful for my docs.

You're an intern from a low to mid-tiered school likely doing residency at some equivalent program. Wouldn't shock me at all if you're IMG or DO with all the profession signaling you do.

What idiotic intern drives an optioned Porsche? You do realize the retail guy very much likely makes more than your 50K/year, 5 dollars an hour salary, right?

It's no surprise you're this willfully ignorant. You literally know nothing.
so... we have another miscer ignoring my argument (I argue it because I know no one will prove me wrong) and making it look like I'm claiming against the bold. which is a strawman. (a logical fallacy, google it). no one has yet addressed the problem that doctors commonly give bad advice.

secondly, to ignore the argument and point the finger at the arguer is another logical fallacy, called ad hominem.

for me, I know I'm not speaking bull**** when I say doctors commonly give incorrect advice to people, so I didn't have to show you you have no case here, because I didn't argue against the bolded.

one miscer actually tried to tell me I'm making a logical fallacy because I "ignore" the conclusions of others making fallacies in the arguments, and its also bull****. because I didn't say the bolded is wrong, I said I don't want to go to medical school to be told the biggest lie of the century that eating saturated fat and cholesterol in high amounts cause heart disease.

god knows what else bull**** is taught to students in medical school, but the simple offense I have already addressed was enough for me to not get involved with doctors.
