I don't think you know what the term "profitable" means. It has nothing to do with share price. If a company is losing money, they are not profitable.

Tesla is losing money hand over fist. 8 of the last 9 quarters, they've posted a loss.

Miscers are criticising one of the greatest entrepreneurs alive now? Really u guys know the market better than musk , surely. You've spent all of 10 minutes using google to learn about the solar market. Yes, surely you are experts of economics and musk is a dunce idiot moron who has wasted 10+ years doing business in the particular market. yep. makes sense.

It's getting better. I ran math and for me it would be about a 12 year return, so if they lasted 20 that would be a decent deal. But why are so many people afraid of new tech? You always have an initial loss period because R&D is expensive as ****. Engineers/scientists don't work cheap.

Brb lets revert to coal, diesel and gas powered cars until we can't see an inch in front of our faces. Electric cars have been around longer than gas powered ones I wonder why we still can't manage to use them regularly.

thank god a company like TESLA is getting subsidies cause other car companies would kill them off otherwise.

This. Whatever you think of his mission short-term, it's a long-term necessity.

He has done nothing except con the government to give him tax money for his projects. Tesla make a loss on every car, they are in mountains of debt, they are subsidised by the state based on green scaremongering. His hyperlink is daylight robbery of the taxpayer. There are many entrepreneurs better than him.

There are so many dumbass millennials who think Musk is some kind of hero because they buy into the global warming myth.

Government funding is nothing new. There needs to be incentive for people to work towards developing better technology since entry cost is so prohibitive. What currently costs a fortune and makes a lot of the products not attractive to the average person could easily cost pennies on the dollar 10, 20, 30 years from now and completely change how we live. Look at the costs of computer processors, TV's, etc compared to what they cost in the not too distant past.

Misc are a bunch of haters who can't give credit.

Musk did nothing, aside from design the first commercially viable electric car

People with that kind of ambition and vision are the ones that advance society as a whole.

That's why the guy is getting money thrown at him left and right, no different than Da Vinci being funded back in the 1500's or w/e.

I'm not saying Musk is the guy who gets us to a civilization capable of significant space travel, but if/when that happens he will no doubt be credited in history as one of the people who helped paved the way.

That's not bashing AI, though (I know you did not make that initial claim). That's recognizing its immense capacity to cause serious harm to humans.

The best analogy I've heard is from Sam Harris: if a message were sent by an alien race that they will be visiting Earth in 50 years, we would have started preparingyesterdayto be ready to deal with every possible contingency. The fact that we somehow treat AI differently than we would aliens in this situation is a cognitive error; we should be doing as much to be ready. That people are not more fearful of its capacity is a problem.

The hidden underground infrastructure โ€” the tunnels, subways, service ducts and sewers of the northeastern seaboard dates back to around 1812! Tunnel Boring in this area would be unprecedented, and likely catastrophic. The Amtrak tunnels next to the Lincoln Tunnel are jury-rigged ancient timber atop crumbling natural rock that's holding up New York City streets. From NYC to Phili to Baltimore rotting hidden underground infrastructure, thats been lost to any diagrams or maps...There's no amount of capital investment insane enough to take on something like this.

cost of solar per megawatt is gonna crossover coal in like 10 years

we have massive amounts of energy falling out of the sky

there will be a breakthrough for cheap roofing/siding materials that are solar panels that will make houses power plants

thinking that we'll just keeping burning coal and gas forever is stupid

Yeah exactly. I'm all for integrating AI as long as theres always a killswitch/override. People who lose that edge of skepticism are too easily surprised.

You've watched too many movies. AI can only do what it's programmed to do. It won't spontaneously develop consciousness. It's not Skynet.

You're right. If there wasn't already a technology that could provide the 50%+ base load required for the grid cheaply, with basically 0 carbon footprint...

Oh wait...

That's not entirely true - the better half of the most advanced algorithms in the world can rewrite themselves based off of exogenously learned patterns from the outside world - and since every TESLA car already has the self driving camera/AI installed, it's a program that can be updated automatically and then we're all sipping Veuve Cliquot everywhere we go.

It's not learning though. It's just following a pre-determined algorithm written by a programming team. It might appear to be "learning" to the layman, but it's not.

We're kings who sent out explorers also serial killers because several explorers had to die while they got situated?

That's just one of the costs of exploration, generally "sacrifices" have to be made for the better.

LOL that's true.

I find it highly unlikely that humans would be able to physically make something that will spontaneously develop consciousness, when we don't even have the slightest clue about our own consciousness, and keep in mind that's something that's inside of us, which is to say you'd think we'd have a better understanding of it.
