No, it sells for ~$20,000 today but its value has and will go up. It has to be a graded Gem Mint 10 1st Edition to get that much.

The most valuable Pokemon card is the rare promotional Pokemon Illustrator card of which only 39 were produced with an unknown number still actually in tact in the marketplace. I might be talking out of my ass, but I think one of those sold for $50,000.

yeah the Charizard that's worth that much money none of us probably had.

1st ed shadowless (or shadowed i forgot which one) was pretty fookin rare.

we all probably had poverty beat up 2nd ed shadowed ones.

Its funny that this thread just came up because a Pokemon Youtuber actually just bought a Gem Mint 10 1st Edition (Shadowless) base set Charizard after selling most of his collection of old sealed booster boxes and ****. Yes, Pokemon cards are absolutely worth money and their value is increasing.

i believe with pokemon go and other pokemon content still very popular + the fact that all the kids who's childhoods revolved around pokemon TCG now having disposable income that these cards will continue to grow in value.

Yes, the interest in Pokemon cards has definitely been rekindled with Pokemon Go and now Youtube. UnlistedLeaf on Youtube has almost 1.6 million subscribers and all he does is open Pokemon cards for the most part.

With no sight of the games stopping anytime soon, they will continue releasing new sets of Pokemon cards which means that retro **** will continue to go up in value.

I had an original charizard in the late 90's. I traded like 10 cards for it. I can't even remember what happen to it. it was in really good condition.

...erm... just looked the prices up, you can get a shadowless for like $15...

It has to be 1st Edition graded to be worth thousands. A Gem 10 Mint (ie: pretty much flawless) is the only one that is worth ~$20K.

I think the rarest is the pre-release Raichu but I'm not sure if it's the most expensive.

if it was the rare shadowless then maybe. like i said not many were mint condition shadowless 1st gen.

All 1st edition cards are shadowless. You cant have a base set 1st edition card without it being shadowless, (except for Machamp).

yeah, thats what makes it cool, a kid has the same odds of getting the #1 card as a 30 year old neckbeard. thats why i liked it. and a lot of kids got lucky...but fuacked the cards up lol.

it was cool that all ages where obsessed with pokemon. i remember 12 years old hustling grown men trading cards and chit lol.

they banned pokemon cards at all the schools cuz too much hustling. i dont think they are banned now cuz its not like a big craze, nowadays just like 1 or 2 kids out of hundreds will have pokemon cards. back then it was legit 99.9% of kids.

Yes. The grading scale on these cards is very strict, so its not just "oh my card didn't have any bends that means it was mint". For instance, North American cards are actually much rarer to get perfect 10 grades on because the printing process in the NA sets produces much more errors and is of lesser quality in general than the Japanese cards. That means that you can actually open a pack-fresh card today which is off-center or has some other flaw that prevents it from getting a 10 grading, even though you literally just pulled it from a pack.

it is worth a chit ton but nowhere near 100k...strong wtf?

even a gem mint 10, shadowless, 1st edition, i was able to buy $300 and flip it for double
Accept what cannot be changed. Once you accept the fact that life is not fair, you will become more at peace with yourself. Instead of obsessing over how unfair life is, just focus on what you can control and change it for the better.
