Been a bit since an update. Currently doing 2 more weeks and I'm done. I did not get to where I wanted to. I think I dropped calories too fast. I've been cutting for a long time and at this point I really need to get my macros back up and go to maintenance for a month or two.

Overall I look way better. Visible abs, striations and sitting at 230lbs. To be really impressive I think I'd have to lose about 15 more pounds, but I do not have the desire to go through that now since fall is coming up and "no-shirt" season is just about over. Going to focus on adding muscle over the winter and filling out CLEAN bulking. No dreamer bulk like before. I will be monitoring my waistline and will make adjusments if I see it expanding too much.

Will never go back to fuscular mode.

Cutting fukin sucks hey.

currently 5 weeks in myself and at that point where its like you feel you look skinny, but not lean enough to look impressive.

push through it man, you came this far, why not cut the last 10lbs off? its like running a marathon and quitting before the finish line.

I would diet break at maintenance for two weeks and then finish your cut

I've thought about doing that, I will probably re-evaluate after I do some maintenance time. I've been cutting for almost 6 months, results really slowed the last 4-6 weeks. I had to experiement a lot due to not really knowing how my body will handle cutting since it was my first serious one. Overall I'm burnt out from doing it so long.

Sometime you just gotta hit that reset button. I know I definitely did but pressed it too long and messed up my physique. Oh well. Back to it

Yeah man. Going up to 2600 calories now, and gonna work myself back to where I need to be. 3k will most likely be the sweet spot.

Many have said this too. Maintaining low BF is definitely very hard for some people. Others can do it having pizza every other day. I am not naturally lean, so maintaining anything less than I am now would most likely require a much more conscience effort that I'm willing to put in all year round.

For now, gonna finish up these last two weeks, then gradually work to maintenance calories and just see how I respond. At that point I'll decide if I want to try to cut off a little more, or get back to moving heavy stuff again. It will really depend how I feel/look at the time. Will probably drop to 5 days training and incorporate more intensity/less volume over the winter with powerlifting movements.

Will rep for someone to embed. I can't use Imgur at work and I've been sending this chit from my Cellphone to my work e-mail.

I stepped on the scale for the first time in two weeks today, and it said 221. I was in shock. I had been holding at 228-230 for like two weeks. No cheating. I weighed myself last night and the scale said 224. I had to check 5 times. I did another weight in this morning empty stomach and got the 221...... A surprise for sure.

This is honestly going to be my first piece of advice when anyone asks me about losing weight. Whatever you "think" you need to lose, add about 15lbs. Definitely an eye opener when you keep losing weight but abs are nowhere in sight.

One of the biggest things that change my results was listening to Stan Efferding's rants. He has a lot of knowledge on so many aspects of the sport. Arn turned me on to his Sodium rant, and after following it I noticed marked improvement in my lifting.

Another big one was what classifies as "working sets". I used to do my acclimation sets dumb. I can press 140's on flat for 8-10 reps. My warmups would be 80, 100, 120 x 10. This was dumb. I dumbed that down to 80s x 10, and the rest like 5 or 6, only leaving like 30-45 seconds between them. Then got into my work sets of 140 to failure for 2-3 sets. I applied this principle to all my lifts after. Once warmed up, after 2 exercises or so, I'd only do 1 "feel" set for the rest, then immediately into work sets. Made a huge difference with time and performance.

You insulin sensitivity is going to be great at that BF level

I'd recommend a low fat, high carb diet when you start rebounding. I have had a lot of luck with that in the past

Thanks Arn. Two of your biggest inputs were adding a day of lifting, and the sodium thing. Both made a big difference. Thank you! I like that plan too. I've been under 50g a fat during the stretch of this cut and I've felt very good with my carbs only at 200-200g a day. Much better gym performance as well.

Absolutely sickening, OP.

No matter what you decide to do from here I'm sure 6 months cutting experience will be absolutely invaluable in future should you decide to cut again.

Thank you! And yes, I've gained more knowledge in the last 6 months nutrition wise from members here and lots of reading than I have in the last 6 years. Should have taken the time to watch my diet better in my 20's, but such is life. It's a learning experience! Next cut will be drastically easier.

Gonna share some of the stuff that made a difference for me during this cut.

- gradually drop calories. I started at 2900, then went to 2700, then 2500 and was finishing with like 2250. I'm at 2500 now because 2250 was too low. Pretty sure 2500 will be my sweet spot during the next cut. No reason to drop lower because I train with a ton of volume and frequency.

- my body hates oatmeal and brown rice. Both make me feel bloated, and running to chit myself an hour later. Post workout carbs were 6oz banana only. I switched to white rice and never looked back. Digestion was drastically better.

- Really enjoy 6x a week training. Hope I can keep it going, but fall is coming which means ballet/soccer for my daughter. May have to cut to 5 days.

- Going to look into GPP cardio going forward. Elliptical/Stairmill are just too boring. Going to start doing heavy carries, maybe farmers walks, ect.

- fried green peppers and red onions with oregano make everything taste great .

- Original Juans "Pain is Good" Jalapeno sauce was a blessing. It made so many meals enjoyable.

- Halo Top allowed me to indulged my sweet tooth here and there.

- Cheat meal/reefed size did not seem to affect me differently. Whether it was 1000k or 2000k over my allotted intake. The difference was the frequency. Every 10 days worked out better for me, and produced no negatives. I learned to feel when it was needed.

- Should be obvious, but kept squat/bench/deadlift in my routines weekly. I was doing more machines in the beginning of my cut, but got off that crap and back to free weight motions. Machines can be great, but are no replacement for the big 3, rows, pullups, dips, OHP ect.
