Military miscers and vets, PLEASE COME IN HERE

Getting out the service after 7 and a half years. I missed my compensation/pension exam last month because I was in the hospital. Was in the hospital for 30 days and didn't have access to my cell phone when they called.

Called them back after I got out of treatment to explain what happened and now I'm waiting on them to give me a call to let me know when they will have an opening for another appointment. I've heard a lot of horror stories about people waiting for over 10 years to have their claims rated and actually receive anything from the VA. The VA office I will be dealing with is in California. As of right now, I am in my final week in the military.

over the course of those 7 years

DIAGNOSED WITH:

joint pain localized in knees

joint pain localized in wrists

lower back pain

depression with anxiety

adjustment disorder with anxiety

decreased concentrating ability

ADHD

insomnia

sleep disturbances

substance abuse/dependency

I know a lot of these issues are related to each other and many of them I've probably had before enlisting. Can anyone tell me what to expect, if anything as far as compensation from the VA? Or how long after the appointment I should expect to be waiting on a rating?

Any insight or advice is appreciated.

Doubt that. I'm not expecting much. Most of the things I'm diagnosed with all relate to each other and I'm not disabled or anything. I can still work and get a job.

It's highly unlikely you'll receive any partial disability as your list is a lot of brain stuff and symptoms of getting older. How many deployments did you have in combat situations? Total days in war zone and type of missions play a part.

VA is a suck fest and I don't think you'll qualify. That said, my information is second hand and we have several disabled military vets on here who can provide way more accurate info.

Good luck, Rex!

No, the hospital visit was related to my substance addiction. All the other stuff was diagnosed throughout 7 years. I have a relative who is getting about 800$ a month and served most of his 4yr enlistment with no issues. After he got out, he became a huge addict and attempted suicide on one occasion.

I don't really have any disabilities that would restrict me from getting a job but I would hope I am not going to be completely disqualified as the compensation could really help me out since I don't have a college education.

So basically you have a sore leg and wrist and expect us to pay you forever?

I was in the Navy for 20 years, I came out fitter than when I went in. Just carry on, thank you for your service. Dont be that guy.

Do you receive anything from the VA?

and I'm not "being that guy" if you're implying I'm trying to lie or anything. I know people who play the system and that isn't me but if I'm entitled to any benefits, why should I not accept them?

I get nothing from the VA. I do get a retirement payment every month but thats for 20 years of service. Every one qualifies for that.

Yeah well don't be the guy who doesn't get what he is qualified to get either.

I know some guys who's didn't go for disability when they should have.

Let's not pretend we give a **** about the military now that we are out, all we did was bitch about Uncle Sam raping us when we were in and you know damn well that's true.

I've actually never deployed.

I'm Canadian and didn't get my U.S. citizenship until the last year of my first enlistment. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with why they never selected me to deploy. By the time I reenlisted, got my citizenship and my security clearance, the operation in Iraq had ended and I had things in my mental health record that probably hurt my chances of getting a deployment.

I wont discuss my connections due to thats private but i'll say youll more than likely get connected for something, even if its 0% its awesome. You will have access to va care, thus. EXCLUDING you from having to have obamacare. saves a ton right there, and if you ever need treatment, you will have it. pay a 20-30 dollar copay monthly for medicine and visits. bam.

try getting same coverage under obamacare. I read misc'rs paying like 5k a year.

I'm not getting a dishonorable tho. Not getting an honorable either, mostly because of addiction related issues. Had an overdose last year and I relapsed in June.

You don't need to be a U.S. citizen to serve in their military. You just need a green card, which I had.

OP, my brother came back from Bosnia with a messed up leg and at first the VA was dicking him around but now he's compensated.

I can't remember the exact name of what he filed but he was able to bypass that initial time frame limitation.

Most importantly: welcome home.

Why the fuack should you get a check every month for life because you worked 7 years and never even deployed? Gtfo. This is why america is in debt.

Every 30 year old has symtoms like that. "Back pain" "some joint issues" "anxiety" "substance abuse"

GTFO. I understand dude who get their legs blown off or mental disability from shrapnel, but this pussy chit that every "vet" has is getting old as fuack and wasting my money

So because I don't have missing limbs and PTSD, I shouldn't be entitled to any VA benefits because you don't want to pay taxes?

More like the long lines at the VA where you get priority because you'll have a high disability rating compared to the rest of us who deployed, got blown the fck up and have to wait 120+ days to see a doctor if we need to.

You shouldnt be getting jack chit. You got compensated for your time right? Your done, move on. Like 75% of the population over 30 have sore joints, insomnia, adhd, sore back, "anxiety"...ect. Also why the fuack should you get paid for " substance abuse " lmao gtfo.

Thats exactly the problem, all these people want handouts for "disabilities" lmao everyone has those

I think you're blowing this out of proportion.

I would be lucky to get 10% and there isn't any justifiable reason for me to get 70-80%. You know that and are just being dramatic. Second, no I was not hooked on alcohol and drugs long before I went into the military. I only became addicted to drugs when I started getting treated for things with narcotics and sleeping pills. The medication worked so well for problems I had, I started using them more and more and eventually I would need them just to feel normal. That went on for four years. Not saying I wasn't responsible for a lot of that, but that's the truth.

Lol, you think I'm being dramatic? You'll see when you go visit your local VA and see the fcking lines. You'll be at the pharmacy line with the thousands of other people lining the hallway waiting for their narcotics. Meanwhile, if I break my hand (like I did 5 years ago), I'm waiting 2 months to see someone about it until my bones just heal themselves. Clog up the system though bro. More power to you.
