Oh if you could see the disgusting azz people at the 24 I go to. Towels left everywhere. Pools of sweat left on cardio equipment without wiping it down afterwards. It drives me nuts. I don't have the ability to join home gym crew with the limited space I have and there are no good gyms where I live. Sucks da angus.

A 'voluntary upgrade' isn't making it right.

They'll wait until one of them gets dropped at a public range kills the mother of 5 who is learning how to defend herself and her children after her husband died and the media backlash makes the last week look like child's play before making it mandatory.

At this point, what could they do that is any better? Sounds like they knew of the issue before it broke on social media, so that's chitty and I have no issue roasting them on that, but unless a buyer filled out a warranty card, what other measure is Sig going to take when they have no way of making direct contact with every owner? There is literally zero way for Sig as a company to force a consumer to turn in a product they bought and legally own even if they could make direct contact with all of them.

Sig could literally admit that the gun is unsafe and issue an actual recall requiring owners to have the pistol fixed.

Sure, not every owner is going to do it, but a hell of a lot more would, and it wouldn't be so much sig's fault (again, still) for saying the "upgrade" isn't necessary.

It's ridiculous that a modern, defensive style, duty, carry pistol being sold in the year 2017 might kill you or another person if dropped. It's bad enough Sig either doesn't know how to test a gun for safety in the real world or knowingly and intentionally swept the problem under the rug and hoped to get away with it...now that it's come to light, I can't fathom how they think allowing hundreds of thousands of these unsafe pistols to remain is okay.

Yeah the wording of upgrade is dumb, it should have been "safety recall" or something, but the wording is somewhat semantics as long as they are fixing the problem at no cost to the owner. My post was more to your point about making it "mandatory", as that's simply not possible. The information is now out there for everyone even remotely plugged into the gun community, so it's up to the owner to now weigh the safety concerns and whether they want to send it back or not.

It's not semantics.

Voluntary upgrade in no way is equal to a safety recall.

It's up to the owner? What about everybody who is near them while they are handling their P320? If I'm standing on the line next to a guy with butterfingers and a non "upgraded" P320, how and why should fixing his unsafe POS be up to him?

It should be a mandatory and not voluntary recall. A lot of people are at risk. But of course if it became a 'mandatory' or 'necessary' recall, SIG would have to admit to a large mistake. They just don't want to admit this.

They could do what companies tell you to do when might have some contaminated food product. Return it or throw it in the trash.

The first lawsuit from this will be interesting.

this. its like when toyota issues a mandatory recall on its vehicles a few years back for that "sticking pedal" issue and they send letters out to buyers to bring it in for service. whether or not the buyer does so is up to them.

This is what aggravates me about the SIG fiasco: gun-grabbers now have some facts to argue that guns are unsafe and need more regulation.

Very frustrating. SIG needs to announce that the P320 has a dangerous defect, and start a mandatory recall.

Of course it's up to the owner, do you expect Sig to go track down 4473's and go door to door stealing all P320's back from owners? If not, then it's obviously up to the owner. Sig has handled the situation extremely poorly, and like I said, I have no issue with roasting them on it, but just labeling something "mandatory" isn't going to magically result in all P320's teleporting their way back into Sig's possession.

I'm a little surprised that we haven't seen (or at least I don't think we've seen) new vids from other manufacturers testing the same drop to prove their guns are drop-safe to a higher degree.

Unless . . . maybe they aren't? Wonder how many manufacturers held panic sessions where they got in a room and said "we tested this ourselves before, right . . . RIGHT??!!!"
