I sleep on the floor, 100% srs. Have a blanket under me to separate me from the direct floor, two blankets over me and my pillow
PIPPIN: I didn't think it would end this way.
GANDALF: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.
PIPPIN: What? Gandalf? See what?
GANDALF: White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.
PIPPIN: Well, that isn't so bad.
GANDALF: No. No, it isn't.

Brb bought 12 inch memory foam on sale for $150 from amazon. Feels no different than tempurpedic.
But I have no idea about mattresses. I am sure a mattress industry insider would disagree.

This entire thread seems to have gone over your head though. It really has. I'm not advocating buying used mattresses. Where the hell did you get that from? I'm not advocating buying cheap mattresses either. What I'm doing is exposing how a scummy industry is greatly taking advantage of the consumer.
You're talking about getting duped by "Sleepy Mattress Land" and paying thousands for some product that's worth hundreds. Yeah it's super scammy.
Others are simply stating you can buy a good and new mattress sub-$1000 that is not made of "cheap materials", that may have a warranty, that may promote a comfortable and restful sleep, etc.

EDIT: And no mattress is "worth hundreds." Marketing has duped you very badly if you truly believe that companies are putting more than ten bucks into manufacturing any mattress.

On the OPPOSITE END of the spectrum
It costs a billion to design and create and oil well, to suck up oil from miles beneath the earth.
transport it across the ocean, to giant refinerys which costs hundreds of millions to build, in an EXTREMELEY complex and multi step refinement process (Have you seen a phukking refinery?). while paying engineers over 6 figures to maintain and treat.
All to end up paying 2.40 for an ENTIRE PHUKKING GALLON of gas. You know what costs more? bottled water, soda, juice, milk, VIRTUALLY ANY OTHER LIQUID. you know how "complicated" it is to make bottled water, or soda, or juice..compared to gasoline?
Poeple will piss themselves over a price change of 10 cents for a gallon of gas using an extremely complex process but barely wince at paying 1.00 for a 20oz of liquid that was just taken out of tap, filtered, and placed in a plastic bottle.
think about that.

discovered the "sleep like the dead" and "mattress underground" sites ~4 years ago when i was shopping for my first "good mattress" to go in a new apartment. Based on research from those sites, I paid roughly $1100 for a queen size hybrid mattress. Individual pocket coil base with a combination memory foam/gel upper as the top layer. For my particular preference of mattress, I basically got the best setup money could buy at fukin 60% of the cost of a traditional major name brand. The serta, beautyrest, etc equivalent ran for like $2800.

Its not as soft as a regular mattress but I aint gon get scammed outta my money for springs that WILL go bad or eventually poke through like they have in the past. That or have to flip it. Why would anyone spend $800 on something that dictates the quality of sleep that is GUARANTEED to go bad? lol At-least with my memory foam it'll last longer due to density, and even if it goes bad sooner than a regular mattress, at-least I only paid $200 for it.
in theory an air mattress made correctly has the potential to be the ultimate bed. It could continuously pump cool air into itself to maintain a constant temp. Air support would give the most even support out of any mattress system, since the pressure inside the bed is constant, unlike an elastic solid like a spring or even foam, where pressure always increases with displacement.
