Media and so called "storm experts" everywhere were saying from Alabama to Maryland were fuked, so everyone freaked out. Turns out it's like any other hurricane (like I originally thought, but even I bought into the hype, gotta admit). I think a lot of the paranoia sprung from what happened in Texas, which are areas not built for hurricanes in the first place.

on one hand news media like drudge has been hyping this storm for over a week as a major catastrophe so expectations were high. but also on the other hand it seems like in this day and age people need more shock and awe to be impressed, like downtown Miami being completely leveled or something.


and in the end mother nature had her own course. if it hadn't gotten stuck over Cuba it would've been much worse.

How are you claiming it's "like any other hurricane", when it's nowhere near over, and the worst effects are still hours away from Tampa?

Because we deal with this every year, or every hurricane. Seems dangerous at first, but then dies down to nothing. Of course areas that are not built to withstand hurricanes are gonna suffer badly, they do all the time.

Reporting in from downtown Ft Myers. Worst of it has passed us, and somehow condo did not lose power at all. Lost 2 of our palms out front and some of the foliage however.

I did see either a downed power line or a transponder sparking up a few blocks away. Thought for sure something was catching fire.

About to pop the scotch again for the night and ride the rest of it out. Hope my 239 crew was alright.
