Because of our ages when we got married (35 & 38) and the state of the world at the time. It's even worse now.

Depends on your job man. Not everyone who has a career can just up and move to a different city. For example my engineering company is world wide. We have ZERO locations in Arizona. Many in other states, but not Arizona. So some people are limited to moving with their career/company. Yes I know you can find another job, but you don't always have that job security and you are risking yourself doing that.

I think he was just making a point about people complaining about how housing costs $800k everywhere. Unless you live in the Bay area or NYC (or say, London, Vancouver, or anywhere in Australia if international), that's not the case. There is plenty of affordable housing all over the US.

Understandable. I was just curious. I do not plan on having kids either.

Kinda feel bad for my mom that she will most likely never have grand kids but it's a cruel world out there boyo, things aren't looking up.

Correct. I actually moved to AZ for way better economic opportunity, AND lower living costs. this is a booming area and still massively cheap.

BRB: I've been retired for 10 years. I still have a mortgage..it's way less than rent.
If I cannot afford to live in my house I will sell it and downsize..Even move to a new area if needed.

Save for retirement while you are young.... Less getting yucky with the boys and more kaching into the ROTH/401K...

I moved with my job from the NE to the PNW for a better cost of living and area back in the 1970s.
I left friends and family..best move I ever made!

easy=brb-join the military, acquire skills and security clearance, get out and use veterans preference for a GS job. contribute into tsp (govt 401k) and work until you hit retirement age. when you retire, you will have a 401k, pension (1% of salary per year you have of govt service; i'll have +35 years by the time i retire), and social security.
