Non-US brahs, be careful what you wish for. If it does, then the US will be dominate in that sport too. Some of your better players will immigrate here to play for our teams because of money, and the fact that everyone wants to come here anyways.

The back to back world war champs will become back to back world cup champs.

Just stating the facts. Look it up. Soccer is the most popular sport in 3rd world countries because the kids/families are literally so ****ing poor they can't afford the accessories of other sports. They literally can afford a ****ing ball that they put air in once in awhile. This is not speculation, it is a fact. Ease of access has helped it succeed there. In the US, where these issues of poverty are not nearly as prevalent, other sports are far more popular. If we elect some commie Bernie Sanders type and become a socialist ****hole like South America, then yes, I could see a simple activity like soccer becoming more popular.

On the boring 1-0 game argument... a low scoring game means that each goal carries huge meaning. That's why there is such an outpouring of passion when a single goal is scored. A game, even an entire campaign can pivot on a single moment. That is why soccer hits people hard, the emotional payoff of a goal is enormous.

I used to like basketball but honestly unless someone beats the buzzer in game 7 how dramatic is a basket? It's just constant, meaningless scoring.

The low scoring nature of the game also adds to the game's romance. In England we have the FA Cup, the oldest cup competition in football. Pretty much every team in the country can enter, that means non-league teams full of amateurs can potentially have their day against Man United at Old Trafford. I'm talking about the 100th ranked team in the country vs 1st, for example. And every now and then there is a giant killing and the outsiders win. That's why they call it "the magic of the cup."

Let's see the 100th ranked Basketballl team face off against Sacramento or an amateur football team beat the Patriots. Would never happen. In a low scoring game, in terrible weather, on a muddy and waterlogged pitch, anything can happen.

This has nothing to do with regional sports. I'd have no problem with Rugby becoming popular in the States. Objectively "futbol" is boring as hell to watch. Even some of my FoB mexican friends attest to this. I can see it being mildly exciting if you're actually in the stadium with a bunch of other roaring fans, but if you're just lounging about at home, well, most would get more enjoyment watching paint dry.

When the Sounders first started in Seattle, I had no idea how many soccer fans there were in this area.
There are far more Sounders fans than Mariner fans in the Seattle area.

America is changing and with it it's culture, I am all for maintaining American culture identity, but it seems it's inevitable and with this change there's a window of opportunity for football to take over, but it will be very gradually due to the sheer amount of money invested in the big 3 and their dominance in the mass media.

The beautiful thing about football is that ANYONE can be the next Ronaldo or Messi, you don't have to fit a certain body type, the only genetics that count in football is the skillful ones, puts everyone on this planet on equal footing.

You basically summed up why soccer sucks as a sport. Great sports require players with superior genetics pushing the limit on human athleticism. Soccer literally only uses half the body, and anyone can do it, and even those with average genetics can excel. As such, is it more of a skill than a sport. IE see golf.

Definitely see it becoming more popular with more MLS teams being created like the LA FC. But I don't think it will ever be the top sport in the US. Like you see in this thread a lot of them seem to think it's a boring sport because it's "low scoring". I think it's similar to saying a fight is boring because there were no knockdowns, there is still plenty going on.

First, "soccer" uses every body part with the exception of the arms (unless you're a goal keeper). If you're gonna bash a sport at least know it's rules to begin with.

basketball is fun to watch...but football and especially baseball are slow as fuk. No clue how anyone can sit through a whole game of that. Soccer is mainly just running around with 1-3 goals the entire game

Expected to see a pic of a ton of mexicans lol.

Anyway it's definetly more popular, but will never reach the mainstream popularity of the others unless the MLS finds a way to bring over serious talent that is comparable with the european clubs. Not just 2nd rate talent and aged european stars looking for a paycheck. that's the real reason.

the local fanbases are still 10x more hardcore than the fat cuckold types that only watch sports full of large black men.
