$1000 for electric guitar and amp what are my options?
Been thinking about learning a new instrument for a while now. Recently decided on guitar. Even made a thread on it last week with good encouragement from you guys. Thanks for that.
Now that I am set on learning, I have a budget of around $1000 I want to spend on a guitar and amp total not each.
Been doing a lot of research on my end and it seem like you can get a fender standard strat for around $500 and that leaves another $500 for a marshall or fender amp.
I am not looking for anything fancy but something I can use everyday for the next 5 years without wanting to upgrade.
Any suggestions? Thanks for reading.

for the guitar get a PRS 245 for about 500 or a PRS tremonti for about 700.. there some decent Godin guitars that you can find on craigslist for about 500$ and they play like 1.5k guitars. for amps the mustang 2 was good. never get bored with a modeling amp since you can just get more patches on line but my favorite is the amplifi. you can find a 75 watt one for 300$ new at guitar center (or any other music store) and it's possibly the best modeling amp I ever bought

Prs guitar 300-500 bucks

Amp wise it depends what youre looking to do. If you just want a practice amp id say get a line 6 because they have effects and everything built in.
300 for a 60 watt.

But since I am a beginner I figure I don't need anything super fancy but at the same time I want to be able to use it for years before wanting to upgrade.

I really enjoy psychedelic rock. I know it is months down the road before I can start playing anything like that but do I need special equipment for that? I really like the band explosions in the sky for reference and they are a large part of why I want to learn. To eventually be able to recreate that sound. Thanks once again.

As far as the amp goes a line 6 is a good beginner amp and what i currently use at home amd thats 300 so that leaves 700 for a guitar. Id say get a PRS custom 24. You can find one new for 6-700 and one used for about 500 which id personally do. If you go to guitar center and find one in good condition youll save a few hundred bucks. Thanks bruh. Also ive had my prs for 12 years and still play it. They're great guitars. Same with the line 6.

PRS models anything in the SE series will do. Find something with 24 frets for more range. I like the custom 24 but the tremonti which is mark tremontis signature model and the 245 are good too.

All of them play great and tbey come in different colors too so you just gotta look at the options. The 245 and tremonti are shaped more like a les paul. The custom 24 is a more standard body shape.

OP you need to go to guitar center and play all the guitars in your budget and decide which one feels most comfortable for you. Thats the MOST important thing. Once youve done that, come back here and make a thread about which ones you liked. Then we can do the rest of the suggesting for you.

I will note that the universal cheaper end of guitars ( your budget ) that most people go for are the strats, telecasters ( very comfortable guitars imo ) and the epiphone les pauls.

solid states often have headphone outputs, tube amps never have them

But it is more of a hassle to use because the tubes have to warm up and you have to replace them. Not sure if the same deal applies to guitar amps but I am looking for something simple. So I will just go with a solid state amp as recommended by people in here.

instead of spending a grand on a decent setup, why not spend 250 on some cheap setup and see if you even like it or not?
I thought i was going to get into the guitar a while ago also, bought everything i needed..now it just gathers dust

You're in really good shape with $1,000. Ten years ago I bought my Schecter Hellraiser with dual EMG active pickups (a good brand of pickups) and a Line 6 75 watt amp with effects. Paid about $800 total. Still have them to this day.
You can buy a fairly decent guitar for $300 and a good 25 watt amp for $100 or so. That way you're not spending a ****load of money on great gear just in case you don't stick with it, but you'll still have a good guitar and amp if you do stick with it.
As far as where to buy, Guitar Center is typically the best place around. They always have deals and have great used gear, too.
Have fun growing callouses on your fingers.
