I have an addictive personality. I love things that are time sinks. Something I can just get lost in and have hours drift by without realizing it. It made sound stupid but I used to be really into puzzles. I would spend 3-4 hours at a time not even using the bathroom or drinking/eating just focused like a laser. I can hold my concentration for inordinate amounts of time.

Imo jazz picks are the way to go like he said ^ short and thick. So much better for imtricate stuff.



^youre going to love guitar. Thats how i am with everything and i probably played 40 hours a week when i started. Its all i did and all i thought about.

Holy chit I think I just came from reading this post. I love finding out new details from songs I have heard dozens of times already. I find extreme pleasure in making comparisons and finding new ways to complete an old task. Experimentation is my motto in life srs.

I am so excited to try it out now. Kicking myself for waiting until my 30s to learn guitar. But I guess it is better late than never. I think this will work out great. I don't get easily discouraged and I like to throw myself into a new hobby. I love things that have an infinite skill gap. Like the more time you spend, the more you get out of it. Because a lot of things have a skill ceiling where the gains stop coming after that initial surge. I think that is why the best hobbies are easy to pick up but impossible to master. Low bar to entry means anyone can try it but only the die hard obsessed become masters. Looking for a new hobby I can do for life.

DUDE this is INSANE. At times it sounds like those giant pipe organs and other parts sounds like synthetic pop. The versatility of this instrument is limitless holy chit. Sounds like a symphony contained in a single instrument. Just speechless.


HOLY CHIT at towards the end. Sounds like a wailing banshee in the best way possible.

Alright guys I went in the store last night and checked out a few guitars you guys recommended. Just held them and fiddled around with them a bit. Didn't have much too much time because the store was closing. This one really caught my eye. I really liked the feeling of my left hand on the neck. It was nice and wide just felt good moving my hand up and down. What do you guys think? I think I am going to head in there again tomorrow and really spend some more time looking around. Not gonna lie though I couldn't tell a huge difference between the guitars but I like this one because I thought it looked the best. Would it be stupid to buy a guitar on its looks? I mean it felt good to hold. Is this a good model? Thanks.

imo you're limiting yourself if its $1000 for the guitar and amp. but if you gotta keep it affordable id recommend ibanez guitars. probably the best value for your money.

personally though, if i could have any guitar it would be a fender jaguar

I went in the store last night and found that all the guitars basically started at $500. The ones that had a design I liked were all $700+. I stuck with the recommendations in this thread. I figure I will spend less on the amp and spend more on the guitar. The $1000 price limit was more of a rough guideline than a hardset rule. I just figured I didn't need to be spending thousands as a beginner. What do you think about the guitar I posted above? It felt pretty good to hold and I thought it looked really great.

edit: ^^ I liked the designs that had that natural wood look to them. I did not like the looks of fender guitars because they looked plasticy in person if that made sense. I thought the finish on gibson guitars looked the best but they were like $2k+. So way out of my price range.

yea, that sounds about right. have you tried picking up an ibanez rg series though?



high quality and affordable. i also like how they have 24 frets as opposed to the typical 22, and larger lower heel so you can easily get your hand all the way up the neck. the one shown here also has a flloyd rose locking tremolo with a bolt down bridge. practically never go out of tune.

No guitar aficionado but I've always heard one of the cheapest (yet best) ways to go are to get your hands on a Mexican Fender and then just put different pickups in it.

You'd end up with a pretty bad ass guitar for like $200-300.

Don't really know jack about amps so couldn't give you any insight on that.

Edit- Always start small, just cause you have $1000 doesn't mean you need to spend $1000 especially starting out.

When you get into it IMO most people need to resist the urge to buy stuff for the sake of it, every year every company comes out with new things with new buttons and lights on it designed to make people them, etc.

Get a good guitar that has a good fretboard (doesn't have to be the best model), frets, etc. and an amp that works properly, once you play that for a while you'll know more about what you want in your guitar and amp.

I look at it like a way to learn and basically exercise your brain, it works with your body too which is cool.

Stuff that gradually challenge your brain, and somewhat body basically in ways help keep you young by continually exercising your neuroplasticity.

I really did not like the way some of the guitars looked with exaggerated features or finish. I really liked the finish of the guitars that had a classic/elegant look to them. Like that classic boat if you know what I mean. I know it may sound stupid but I can't convince myself to buy something if I don't like the looks of it.

ESP is a good brand, don't buy any ltd trash

if you can find a high end used guitar, it's better than buying new

people take care of high end gear

the remaining money you can buy a focusright 2i2 second gen

download guitar rig 5 for free online

and that will sound a million times better than any garbage amp you will buy

if you want a practice amp find something cheap on craigslist for 30-100 bucks if you wanna listen to yourself

Thanks bruh. How do you feel about the guitar I posted. It's a prs 24 custom. I really like how it felt and I thought it looked great. There was a gibson that I looked the best in the entire store but it was $2k+.

I've always been a fan of the look of Strats, can get a Mexican Strat new for $350, probably can find a used one for maybe $200.



A lot of colors work with the white pickguard- black, cherry red, sunburst etc.

Other styles I've always liked were SG's and Les Paul's though I've heard both are pretty heavy and somewhat uncomfortable to play.

I really did not like the look of the fenders. It felt pretty good to hold but I actually liked the flat wide necks of the prs guitars more because I have long fingers. they're not bad

but if that price range, it's gonna have some issues that you'll notice later on

like the frets won't be leveled or crowned properly

because you're buying it new, you could get a 1500 guitar used for that price

look for a high end PRS (1600-2000) used

problem with gibson is you're paying out the ass for the brand

not worth anywhere near that price range

I don't feel comfortable putting that much on something used when I can get something new for it. Is there something wrong with the guitar I posted? LOL I can see that I got an acoustic and noticed a bit of the same problem although I don't have long fingers.

Honestly it's not gonna be easy finding a good guitar (esp. an electric) for you, requires a lot of putting it through its' paces and knowing what to listen for.

Do you have any friends who play guitar? It'd really help if you did to bring along, can determine if the guitars you're looking at are worth the price tag, what things if any are wrong, how much might need to be fixed, etc.

That's all the more reason to start small.

Don't think a store's above unloading a dud/lemon off on an unsuspecting customer.

**** Guitar Center BTW, insane markups, if you find something you like there you should go look online after that, Ebay etc see if you can find it cheaper (ofc from reputable seller).

Last time I went to Guitar Center was for a shockmount for my microphone they said only a special kind would work and that it was $50, I get home and buy one off Amazon for $10.
